I disagree with both of you there. Well apart from Eden Gardens, Calcutta none of the other stadiums are of that much importance in the international stage. Therefore I think EG should be kept as a permanent venue for every test series that is played in India. Just like Lords is in Eng, and Melbourne is in AUS.

Then we should have a tier-1 of stadiums, who get matches more often than the other stadiums. This should include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Mohali. The tier 2 stadiums comprise of all the other stadiums.

i totally agree with you here eden gardens should be indias main home staduim

i have done a bit of research and indias biggest stadium eden gardens has only played 33 test matches and 19 odis  since the ground has opened.

for test matches i think 33 maybe fair enough
but for odis they seriously should be playing more in eden gardens

if you look at melbourne it has played 120 odis and 97 tests
if you look at scg it has played 121 odis and 92 tests
if you look st the gabba which has opened for cricket 3-4 years ago i dont no may be wrong here but it has played 54 odis

so i think the BCCI are getting it very wrong

Technically EG should be made a main stadium because of its sheer size. There are two problems with this: internal Indian politics and crowd behavior. Kolkata has not been the best behaved crowd...they have on occasions stopped matches, booed other teams and not lauded opponents efforts. They also have the tendency to burn the bleachers after the game, regardless of whether India win, lose or draw. These may be stereotypical statements, but they are true in the short run, nevertheless.

Finally internal politics in the Indian country (it is a huge country, after all) will prevent the BCCI from taking any sort of step of making a permanent test venue. Politicians will immediately enter the fray and start supporting one state or another and the whole thing will become a scandal. Secondly, Indians such as me, who do not live in Kolkata will be enraged as to why Kolkata has been chosen as the permanent venue. Especially after all the previously mentioned stereotypical thoughts.

I personally don't find the rotation policy absurd--as long as each venue gets a match every 2 series, all is fine. We may not get a big match this time round, but we will be confirmed one next time round. What matters is how the rotation policy is logically handled. And with Jaggy-D in the office (with a tendency to influence everything from TV rights to team selection to BCCI elections) anything could be happening.

Shoaib Pulls out of Indian Tour (atleast the Tests for now)

WOW!! Big news!! Shoaib Akhtar has pulled out of the Indian tour as his injury will take another 3-4 weeks to heal. He has been reported to say that he is definately out for the Test series but may be available for ODI's if PCB requires him.

That means no big hoardings in India with Sachin at one end and Shoaib at the other. Too bad.

but in the recent Platinum Jubilee Match between india and pakistan the crowd were well behaved even though they did not show good hospitality towards the pakistani players (which was bad) the crowd behaved very well and left the stadium without disrupting anything. so i dont think the main reason is because of the crowd

Also BCCI tries to spread out the ODI matches to various parts of India so that the State cricket boards can make money from the ticket sales, advertising etc. Thats one of the reasons why EG has only few ODI's

The first Test at the Gabba was in 1931, it's been hosting ODI's since 1979

Once I said India is going to lose both odi's and Test matches, but shahid came up with a different reply Saying that india will win the Test series
Fardin, stop inventing things I have never said. First the comment about not sending Kamran Akmal as an opener which you attributed to me, and now this. When did I say that India will win this series? I think it will be a close series and India probably has the edge in Tests but its in no way a foregone conclusion as some of my indian friends seem to think. For some reason Pakistan seems to pull a rabbit out of its ass every time it plays India so who knows??? If you want to know the poll, I voted for the series being a draw (the only one to do so). So either provide quotes like I have quoted you or quit attributing stuff to people they have never said.
The way you say things about me it looks like I appear as an apparition and say things to you in your dreams which you then come and post here. Is that it Fardin? You have a crush on me?

i think you are ill-informed about the sizes and facilities of cricket grounds in india...Eden Gardens is the biggest and perhaps the best...but, you cannot discount grounds like the Wankhede, or the Chepauk or the Chinnaswamy or Mohali or Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad - all these can accomodate more people than any ground in England,WI, NZ, ZIM can...facilities are good enough(for players) for them to be allotted tests on a sensible and flexible rotation basis without any tiers being made... and also we have to take into consideration the sizes of the countries we are talking about...the whole of England is smaller than the state of Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu...so a person in Manchester can go over to London to watch a match at Lord's or Oval...here it would be discriminating against people of one zone for the benefit of others...and even Aussies let a test series pass without allocating a match to MCG...at least since last two seasons it has been happening(Bang, ZIM and NZ)...talking about importance at world stage - well by what parameters will one gauge it? i can't think of a scale on which such a subjective thing can be measured...

the reason why no. of odi's and tests are less at Eden is that India has so many test venues and odi venues that the matches get distributed over them...and thats the way it should be...the only venue i can think of that needs to be scrapped of intl status is Kanpur...its in pathetic condition...

btw, Shoaib not coming - pakistan supporters - tell me is it good news or bad news? i think its very good news for u guyz...now ur team will be able to focus more and there won't be a strength that is bound to turn into a weakness suddenly, in the team...

Exactly. Sportsmanship is something that has to come in sport. You would have noticed that out of the 85000 who were there at the beginning of the match, only about 25k-30k remained when the match is over. That is disgusting. It is one thing to be passionate about cricket and another to unilaterally support one team. You can support India wholeheartedly but you surely have to laud the efforts of others.

As for Shoaib Akhtar, I think its mixed news for both the teams. Shoaib gives away a lot of runs but if he can get it on target for just a few deliveries, he'll be able to make an immediate impact. It's good for the Pakistani's that they will have no internal turmoil and a good over rate. It's bad for them because none of their new ball bowlers will have the cutting edge in terms of pace. It's bad for India because Shoaib Akhtar is easy to hit since you don't need as much power as you need timing. It's good for them that the lethal deliveries on the Bangalore pitch will be non-present.

too bad Shobby is missing out  Pakistan attack would have been better with him. Shahid what do you think about Arshad Khan?

re stadiums I agree with sachinisgod - Mumbai, Mohali, Banglore & Madras are definitely world class, infact Kolkata had more crowd problems than any of these. btw they are building a new stadium in hyderabad, will be interesting to see..

Is that it Fardin? You have a crush on me?
you are breaking his heart now :p

Pakistan tour to India hit by short delay

Pakistan's tour to India has been delayed by four days, with the second Test moved from Ahmedabad to Calcutta. In return for switching the Test on safety grounds, Pakistan play an extra one-day international in Ahmedabad. Pakistan arrive in Delhi on 28 February for their first tour to India in six years, which includes three Tests and now six one-day matches. A Pakistan Cricket Board statement said it had accepted the revised itinerary from its Indian counterparts. Ahmedabad was the scene of religious riots in 2002 and Pakistan's cricketers had been wary of playing there. The first and third Tests will take place at Mohali and Bangalore, while Cochin, Vishakapatnam, Delhi, Jamshedpur and Kanpur will stage the other five one-day internationals. The Indian government has confirmed that 8,000 visas will be granted to Pakistan supporters who wish to attend the Mohali Test. TV rights have yet to be awarded, with a counter-petition from Zee due to be heard at the Madras High Court on Thursday.

venues and dates for the Pakistan tour of India have been finalized. check the first post for updated itinerary.
