Pakistan have shown consistency for 6 years. They had the longest unbeaten streak in tests from 2010-2012 and again now. They almost completed the double against England and have consistently had some of the highest rated bowlers and batsmen...well ok, Younis Khan. On top of all that, they probably have the most well respected captain in world cricket right now.

I don't believe any team is an out right number one like the Aussies were for a while but Pakistan have a better case than India and Australia.

Pakistan in test are amazing but the current streak have only two series wins outside UAE (Lanka and Bangladesh)

NZ and Aus tours are going to test Pakistan if they are worthy of the No.1 ranking. Just because they drawn an England series doesn't mean they're best in the world exactly. In my opinion, if they win in NZ and Aus, then they will be the best in the world. If you look at previous series (Eng in Uae, Bang and SL) Those weren't any big tours, putting England aside. Numbers are just numbers.

Pakistan are a fantastic team......... The performances in the 2nd and 3rd test makes me feel like they don't deserve the No.1 just yet. Amir and Rahat and Wahab (amid the Eng 2nd Innings) haven't exactly proven themselves.

If you take the subcontinent flaws, Aus are a much better side. Their bench-strength is very strong, their batsmen and bowlers can fire at any time.... great team but not perfect. India is also a great candidate. It doesn't matter about "Oh we drawn series in England and Aus and Ind haven't done it" Past is past. Conditions play a matter as well. West Indies played some fantastic cricket in the Second Test. In this way told India not to underrate them. Aus have beat NZ and WI overseas. India have that real good balance in their side to have that small edge for the No.1 ranking.[DOUBLEPOST=1471361916][/DOUBLEPOST]
