What the… o.O

Faheem choking there...

Shadab proved today why he is important to the side. Faheem just held his nerves even after being hit on the helmet in the last over. Babar Azam once again amongst the runs. Steady batting by Imam at the top. Mohammad Rizwan with a decent innings as well.

On South Africa's batting I felt they were a little to aggressive early in their innings and hence they had a loss of early wickets. I felt Markram got an unplayable delivery to get out. Shaheen was brilliant both at the start and at the death. Hasnain a little too expensive at the death. I think Rauf bowled well but unfortunately went for runs at last.

Rassie Van der Dussen played an extremely good innings under pressure and he couldn't have done it any better. Tough luck for the Proteas but well played by Pakistan!!!

Truly match-winning innings from Babar! His best after the one against NZ in the 2019 World Cup!

It was a choking masterclass from both the teams today.

Babar and Dussen proved their class once again. This was Babar's best innings in ODIs after the one against New Zealand in the World Cup. Miller and Imam also showed their batting prowess. Shaheen and Nortje were good in patches. Hasnain also proved why he is so under-rated. Rauf and Asif have big question marks over their performances and I would look towards dropping them, and bringing in Haider and Hasan Ali (if he's back to full-fitness)

Good win for Pakistan. Although Pakistan should've won earlier, I suppose if it ends well, it's all well.

My XI for the next game:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam-ul-Haq
Babar Azam
Haider/Rizwan (they both can be rotated according to the match situation)
Rizwan/Haider (again rotated according to the match situation)
Danish Aziz
Shadab Khan
Faheem Ashraf
Hasan Ali (in case he has recovered, otherwise no option but to give Rauf another game)
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Muhammad Hasnain

If the pitch seems to assist spinners a little, I would be interested in bringing Qadir and let the Saffers crumble against their weakness, leg-spin, even ahead of Shadab or Rauf. A wicket-less Shadab will be useless when South Africa would come back better prepared into the next game, so if the pitch approves, I would go for both the spinners or Qadir instead of Shadab.

Pakistan's top 3 are fine. I'd personally bat Shadab at 4, Rizwan at 5 and whoever they're backing for the long haul to tonk it around at 6.

I'd have Ashraf at 7 and then 4 proper bowlers. Pretty sure Hasan Ali comes in as one of the quicks and he can tonk it around. At the moment they are a bowler short.

Wouldn't be a Babar Azam innings if he didn't get out after doing all the hardwork and putting up the century. Oh well, the win is what matters.

Rassie van der Dussen as always was magnificient. Has the perfect game for ODIs and the number four position too. Not sure why people are calling for Bavuma's head after just one game though, van der Dussen plays under him in domestic cricket and they've generally played well together too. I'm disappointed that the openers let the blood get to their head, understandable that they wanted to make the most of a bright start but a few quiet overs wouldn't hurt. I'm more confused over Markram starting, thought Malan did enough to stake a claim especially after some fine domestic performances? I can see the allure of wanting Markram established in ODIs too for him to be the next all-format leader but Malan would feel hard done by his exclusion.
