Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe, Sep 2011

Zimbabwe did look pretty good against Bangladesh so should be good seeing how they go against Pakistan. Main guy of interest will be Vitori who seemed a class above in the Bangladesh series.

yep Hamad Azam is who I meant. He has a solid batting technique and can chip in with the bowling.
Vitori looks a good prospect and in reality any half decent bowler can have a go at the Pakistani batting line up.

tbf, the batting looks alright, I'd say its as good as our strongest these days. The bowling with Pakistan, you know they must be good enough (barring the odd poor bowler)

I would like to see Azhar Ali get an ODI Cap, hes been solid in TESTs so far, I would like to see how he does in the ODIs. Should open with Hafeez, Farhat and Umar should remain out.

Shafiq should be given a full series along with Misbah (as hes captain), Younis/Malik should play for the one down spot. Malik is a decent ODI batsman and has got age, so this could be an important series for him. Umar Akmal/Rameez Raja should round up the top 6, am assuming Raja is more of an Akmal-type batsman given he was selected on his showing in T20s (?).

Then the four bowlers, Tanvir, Cheema, and Khan would be my pick along with Ajmal, but wouldnt rule out Yasir Shah getting a spot ahead of quickie. I am not Junaid Khan fan at all.

J Khan hasn't really done so well at the international level but here in the counties his been quite special. Tanvir and Cheema are only here (I hope) because Zimbabwe is a weak side.

We need Junaid Khan to perform. He did not look special in internationals he played but he was genuinely quick in county games that I read about. I feel he will be up to it in due time.

And the only time I saw Junaid Khan bowl (for the Lancs in a CB40 match), he was being spanked all over the park by the opposition. Bowled some ridiculous length balls for an overseas/INTL player. Btw, why are some of you guys over here mad on Umar Akmal? Ain't he by far the most talented Pakistani batsman of recent?!

He actually is, he's been excellent for Pakistan and not to forget, he's very young so the whole Pakistan team cannot depend on him. He's not the most senior player of the team. Someone like Misbah needs to take the responsibility to make sure that a young player like Umar shouldn't be pressurized to perform in every other series he plays. He's young, he's learning and he's by far the best batsman Pakistan have at the moment. Some might argue that Misbah is better but then the last few times I've seen Misbah play he's been too slow. Umar is someone who makes run at a good pace and knows when and when not to play the big shots. One player Pakistan needs at the moment is, Shahid Afridi. This guy deserves to be in the Pakistan side, he's just too good to be out of the side because he's not happy with the team management but then who is?

Tbf, the lad hardly has any international experience. But I agree, he doesn't look anything special. I saw a few videos of him bowling for Lancashire, and with that awkward action, he's going to struggle to swing the red ball.

But he does have pace, and his coaches (Moores and the Pak ones) have said that he does have the potential to be a world-class bowler. Whether he achieves it is another thing - definitley needs to sort that action out though.

It's great to see Rainsford & Lamb back! Both will be pushing for test spots.

The tour match is being played on the second ground in Bulawayo, so the pitch should be more batter friendly over at the Queens Sports Club. (where the test will be played)

Solid start for Zimbabwe. Ajmal will be a real test for them now.

Though the pitch has been flat, I've been disappointed with the Paki quicks.
