Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe, Sep 2011

This Cheema guy must be ancient. If the Pakistanis themselves say he's 32 then he must be at least 35.

What seriously is the point of debuting him? IMO it cheapens Test cricket to give people debuts who obviously will not be around long.

Excellent fight by Zimbabwe this match. Hoping to see them make a few upsets in the ODIs and the T20s

If he can bowl well and do his job then age shouldn't be a hindrance

except it is simply cause he's well past his prime and each performance is one step closer to his eventual retirement which can't be more than 10 Test matches (and that's being generous) away

I think Cheema is 32, come on, it's a ridiculous point that people keep making about Pakistan lying about the age of their players. They even go so far as to say that Afridi is older than he says but I have a cousin in Pak who was n the same class for a while and the same cricket team. They both have the same age. So let us put that nonsense to one side.
I think the Pakistan batting order for Tests should look like this:
1. Hafeez
2. T Umar (although I believe Nasir Jamshed should be given a shot in tests, he looked more than decent in ODIs and was unfairly dropped)
3. Y Khan (he should stick to his slot, having Ali in there atm doesn't make any sense)
4. A Ali (sandwiched between 2 experienced batsmen will help him a lot)
5. Misbah
6. U Akmal (still has that inimitable confidence and swagger and talent, give him another few matches, if he fails, bring in Shafiq)
7. S Ahmed wk (Adnan Akmal is horrendous, Sarfraz should be given a shot)

Nasir Jamshed should be given a shot in tests

have you seen him play? He can't even play with straight bat.Just tries to go over the leg side even to the bowl which is going away from him.As an opener in test he will struggle 9.5 times out of 10 ;) I would prefer Khurrum Manzoor or may be Shahriyar Ghani

----------

He won't be in my Test team even if i had to make a blind cricket Team

Khurram Manzoor is the guy. He is perfectly suited for test cricket and may be thats why Ijaz Butthole is ignoring him.

Not if you're a fast bowler debuting for a team that is looking to go forward. Thing is, it shows the PCB mindset if they're debuting FC veterans like Tanvir or Cheema. They're just looking for a stop-gap solution until Aamir's return. They're thinking they can get about 5 years out of these veterans, just to hold on long enough until golden boy returns.

They should be looking ahead. Aamir's history, and they should treat his suspension as such. Look for new guys, like Junaid, who do have the potential to be world-class and given them a chance.

I don't think it has any thing to do with Aamir, more with the board's inability to understand what must be done to move the Pakistan team forward. There are a bunch of very talented young fast bowlers in Pakistan, all of whom have performed well in the last couple years but they can't even get into the squad. Ijaz Butt is leaching off of the board.

But even Ijaz isn't that much of an idiot. I mean, he was smart enough to allow Aamir to debut in the first place.

What possible reason is there to allow experienced 30-something year old fast bowlers to debut, when you've got exciting, yet unproven, bowlers waiting in the wings?
