Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

Pakistan owe it to themselves to persist with the opening combination. They always throw in some random and then throw him away just as quickly. Sometimes you just have to be pragmatic.

Watson should be targeted first. He really isn't in good form, so the Pakistani bowlers should focus on him. These kind of conditions are helpful for the Pakistan bowlers to accomplish that.

I wonder also whether Ponting can reach his first Test fifty at Lord's. In previous six innings he couldn't accomplish that.

This is a good chance for the Pakistani quicks to grab some early wickets. I really do rate Aamer and Asif and expect those two to cause some havoc, not too sure about the rest of the attack though. Gul wasn't good at all when they toured New Zealand and Kaneria was pretty hot and cold.

If a player scores a 100 or takes 5 wickets, which honors board does he go onto?

Will Pakistani players join the English players on the home honors board, since we are the home team and all.

Pretty gentle pace from this opening pair thus far. Aamer's first over was generally around 83mph, and Asif's first 2 deliveries have read in the 70's. Doesn't quite compare to the Aussie opening pair last seen on this ground, Tait and Harris. They are getting the ball to move though, which is good. They're swinging it in opposite directions too, with Asif swinging it away from Watson, and Aamer back in. They're going to need to bowl well to pick up wickets here, even with the overcast conditions Lords is still flat.

Think Cricinfo have the speeds for Asif wrong. There is no way he was bowling 88mph in that over.

Creative question. According to my Lords book Gordon Greenidge is on both, having scored hundreds for the West Indies and MCC, the latter placing his name on the boards in the home team's dressing room. So he should be on that, although I'm not sure if it was only because Greenidge was playing for the MCC.

From the look of it Pakistani bowlers are bowling good in the beginning.

I really hope Katich hit that, because if he didn't that was plumb. I gave it out in real-time, and replays showed that it was very, very close. If he didn't hit it, which replays are suggesting he didn't, that is stonewall. Katich gets lucky. Been a good start from these 2. Not great pace, but they're moving the ball and bowling the right areas.

That was plumb there. Think that the umpire thought he'd hit it but he wasn't really close.

I rather like the bowling line up of Pakistan here it has experience, wicket taking ability and with Asif can keep it very tight.

Come on Pakistan you've already got Katich out once go get him again.

Aamer looks bloody brilliant early on. Amazing that he's only 18. So many bowlers have struggled with nerves in their first appearance at Lords, but not this lad. Been accurate, and is swinging the ball both ways causing serious problems.

Magnificent bowling, Watson looked clueless against the swing. Aamer and Asif could pick up a few here. Have enjoyed the captaincy from Afridi too, he's been very aggressive early on, nice to see.
