Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

Scorecards dont tell all that much. Warne bowled pretty badly, lots of wide balls, lots of nothing balls. Didnt get carted too much, but didnt trouble any of the batsmen, and didnt look like getting any wickets. the commentators were very harsh on him that match, even Benaud. Some of it was his fitness, he was fat and couldnt field all that great, and didnt look like much of a cricketer, compared to Smith who just looks the part.

Well from the way people were talking about his debut and him going for 1 for 150 I thought he did get carted. Hence I was surprised to see his economy and how much he actually bowled.

Gee, Hauritz just can't seem to get a break. One good innings of bowling from North and people are already calling for Hauritz to be shifted out of the Test team?

It's a lot easier being a part time spinner because if you get carted around a bit or your economical but ineffective you get taken off after a few overs and it's easily forgotten. However, if you pick up a wicket or two the captain will generally keep you on and all of a sudden your figures look pretty good because the opposition batting line up throws their wickets away, like what happened to North.

I also think it has to be realised that Hauritz is a complementary bowler. He keeps the pressure on and allows the pacemen at the other end to attack and take the wickets as well as providing a balance for a pace attack that is sometimes wayward and not draw much movement from the ball and/or pitch.

Start bowling Smith or North as much as a specialist spinner over the course of several Test matches/a few Test series and I have my doubts that the bowling attack would perform as well in comparison to if Hauritz were part of the bowling attack.

Well people talk crap, its the internet after all! Warne did bowl a lot of overs, hence the 151, economy good because the batting kinda milked him for 3 an over easily, but he wasnt threatening for the most part. May and Matthews still were thetwo best spinners and were both used for another year or so until Warne found his feet. Border did bowl Warne a lot, massive spells. It was not unusual for him to bowl 40-50 overs in an innings, 93 Ashes he bowled huge spells.

Well I'd rather play Alam than bring back the Ys. Yes Yousuf and Younis are good players but they aren't the future of Pakistan cricket and when they are around lately the team has been fragmented, not working together and have lost. The last series Pakistan won was nearly 4 years ago for crying out loud, it's not as though by sacrificing veterans for some future players they are going to lose their advantage. They don't have an advantage to lose.

And what happened to the kid that played well in Aus, Manzoor? He stonewalled us for a long time in Hobart. That's the kind of play Pakistan needs right now.

I would still bring back Younis Khan. I wish they would make him the captain. He still has 4 years of Cricket left in him.
I'm impressed by the 2 youngsters Azhar Ali and Umar Amin. Amin specially looked very good with the bat. Hopefully they get to play all the remaining tests this summer.

Agree with most of that. It's overreaction city right now. I guess because Smith looked pretty decent. It's good to know though because in the India Tests 2 spinners may be required as well as in the Adelaide and Sydney Tests of the Ashes. Whoever misses out of the North/Smith/Hauritz trio will depend on form and fitness firstly, but secondly whether we are behind in the series and how the rest of our team is going eg. if we are down going into Adelaide and North is looking ordinary, Smith should come in to bat at #6 and play with Hauritz. If Hauritz is looking ordinary and our batting fragile, then Smith would replace Hauritz at #8. North and Hauritz has to be the preferred duo at this stage though.

He'd have enjoyed it at Headingley too. Hopefully he can get up for that. Although I'm excited to see Peter George. I hate having an all 27 year old bowling attack.

Steven Smith is going to be a fantastic cricketer. However in my mind he's always going to be a number 8.

I'm confident he'll make it in the top 7. Hes already shown good temperament and the technique to make runs in the shorter forms of the game and he already has four FC 100s to his name.

What?:sarcasm Pakistan can't play spinners well, they just got bundled out by Marcus North.:laugh

Sorry:facepalm.. Was too drunk when i posted that :p
I meant Srilanka instead of Pak

AngryPixel added 1 Minutes and 47 Seconds later...

So correcting that: It is official after north's spell that only two countries can play and dominate spin(India and Sri Lanka)

Huh,so the same story continues.A shameful loss, batting collapse, another player retiring (though he should have done it before:facepalm),A new captain ....and blah blah.
Our cricket has no hope TBH.I might only watch T20's now on as it is the only format we can win.
