POOL C

reusexk2.gif

Pool C saw the biggest shock of the cup so far, Portugal set about their match against Scotland and Inside centre Pinto scored all 17 points in their 17-13 victory. The game was a good one and although the Scottish had much of the possesion vision and pace saw Pinto win the game for Portugal. And with this he would win player of the stage, BUT, Bergamasco ran over 7 tries as he scored all 7 for Italy in their win over Romania. He ran so well and destroyed the defense playing at outside centre for the most part of the game. With this he won player of the stage.

POOL D

Pool D saw France defeat Argentina in the opening world cup game and Ireland smash Namibia with tries to their name. The pool was a predictable one for the stage although Argentina did put a fight up to France. Player of the stage is O'Driscoll for two tries and an awesome running game of rugby.

Key Man

With Butch James taking full-back Montgomery is playing at fly half and this gives him the ability to run the game against a weak English side. His amazing kicking game and ability to run the ball was shown against Samoa in their opening game with a try, 2 penalties and conversions gave him 15 points and he led South Africa to a solid victory. If England are to produce a fight today they will have to stop Montgomery

KEY MAN

p_jonny_wilkinson_england_0.jpg

Jonny Wilkinson for England is the key man. He will be the one who will lead England to victory and from the position of fly-half he will have to produce a very good kicking game to gain victory. Lets hope for England that he has the same sort of game that he produced in the 2003 final.

JAZTHEMAN is correct with Jonah Lomu having the most tries in an individual world cup. Howlett scored 7 whereas Lomu score 8 in 99. So far with two games played Italy's Bergamasco has 7 tries and needs only 1 to break the record!!!
REPS FOR JAZ

England VS South Africa

As It Happened

England 0 - 0 South Africa - 1 minute - Shaw catches the ball and runs hard at the South African line, England get quick ball out of the back and Richards finds Wilkinson who kicks England into the South African half. Positive England start

England 7 - 0 South Africa - 7 Minutes - England are in the South African 22 after lots of pressure from the pack, Richards passes it out and Farrell is put through a gap by Wilkinson and runs through James at full back to put England 5-0 up. Wilkinson sinks a simple kick

England 7 - 3 South Africa - 10 Minutes - Montgomery takes 3 points from inside his own half. A good kick and South Africa take vital points.

England 7 - 10 South Africa - 11 Minutes - Habana catches the kick off and runs straight through the England defense to score an awesome individual side and give South Africa an early lead. Only 11 Mins and already 2 tries.

England 7 - 17 South Africa - 14 Minutes - This time its Burger whp breaks 3 tackles as he powers over the line to put South Africa in a commanding position.

England 7 - 17 South Africa - 20 Minutes - The South African scrum collapses to the potent England pack. With a penalty to England Wilkinson kicks to the corner and England can launch an attack.

England 14 - 17 South Africa - 21 Minutes - The line out is taken and England truck and trailer the maul over the line as Vickery scores a try and Wilkinson converts. Awesome game so far.

England 14 - 20 South Africa - 24 Minutes - Montgomery takes the points once again as South Africa strengthen their lead. Good rugby from both sides and the game is wide open.

England 17 - 20 South Africa - 29 Minutes - Another penalty this game has been a rough one. Burger tried to get the better of Shaw and ended up starting a brawl, Dallaglio ending up breaking the fight up before it got nasty. England penalty and three points to England.

England 17 - 20 South Africa - 40 Minutes - The last 10 of the half were very violent England putting a lot of pressure on and South Africa fighting for there lives. This game really could go either way

SECOND HALF

England 20 - 20 South Africa - 43 Minutes - Wilko takes the points after another argument opens up. The ball was held on the ground by Habana and England level the score.

England 20 - 20 South Africa - 48 Minutes - An awesome move between Habana and Montgomery as Du Preez took it blind Montgomery drew Varndell and offloaded. Habana who ran 30 metres was stopped just short of the line from Jason Robinson. Great to see two of the fastest men in rugby on the chase like that.

England 27 - 20 South Africa - 53 Minutes - England take the lead. Jason Robinson picks the ball up after farrell misses out Tait. Robinson turns the gas on and runs away with it. Wilkinson converts and England could produce an upset.

England 27 - 20 South Africa - 57 Minutes - The match hots up again this time Habana and Robinson are fighting. The ball is taken blind and Robinson is there to land Habana back on his ass, the pressure is showing for South Africa.

England 27 - 20 South Africa - 61 Minutes - South Africa fall into further pressure as England's Jonny Wilkinson chips the ball over the defensive line and the ball is knocked on by Bryan Habana who gives England a good position.

England 27 - 27 South Africa - 65 Minutes - TRY TIME. South Africa score a fantastic try. Montgomery splits through Farrell and offloads to Steyn as he runs through and with Montgomery's conversion the score's are level 27 a piece.

England 27 - 30 South Africa - 70 Minutes - Penalty and Montgomery gives South Africa the lead and England going to need something special.

England 30 - 30 South Africa - 72 Minutes - Wilkinson puts one in straight between the posts. Scores level and the game open

England 30 - 33 South Africa - 76 Minutes - Almost game over a Montgomery scores a simple kick.

England 37 - 33 South Africa - 80 Minutes - Vardnell catches a long kick from Montgomery and runs long through the defense to score a fabulous trial and give england the win.

England played a fabulous game of rugby in thier way to victory. Running the ball on a number of occasions to come up trumps over the South African side.
The game was awesome and we will be back with the roundup of the round.
