I think if he stands for the election the onus will be on Pakistan to prove how it defends it self from Terrorist sponsored allegation. There is always going to be India ready to pounce on the fact (nothing wrong as he was the mastermind behind the 26/11 attack). Whether one agrees or not India has dealt foreign relations a tad little better since 2014. I am sure there are a lot of things our government is not doing right(even if its silent on issues its wrong) but India overall has progressed. I would love to see the neighbors becoming like that as well. I have said it in many posts here on PC that Pakistan has so much talent (have a lot of Pakistani friends here in US), they need good government and leadership. United Arab Emirate have shown a Muslim country can be in top list and Pakistan really have a chance too with all the talent but somewhere between Army and government everything is lost.
Yeah, we need someone to beat some sense into the army generals (and the ISI to an extent). I was kinda hoping Trump would do that by declaring us a terrorist sponsor. The generals would've been hugely embarassed in front of the civilians, who have diplomatically been warning them of that happening someday. But he doesn't have any guts to deal with Pakistan, just like Obama. Stopping the aid is only gonna play in the army's favour. Real action is needed.
Despite the corruption, the PML-N has done an admirable job in some sectors, but clearly not enough. Without the Sharif family, i actually think they could dominate Pakistan politics for decades. It's just the Sharifs, especially Nawaz and his daughter Maryam, that are PML-N's biggest problem.

What the hell is going on with Imran Khan and Pakistan? @CerealKiller @Na Maloom Afraad ?
Glad you asked.
Imran Khan is currently facing a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly, which he’s likely to lose, and his removal will be followed by fresh elections. His party, the PTI, has been abandoned by its coalition allies, and reportedly a couple dozen of its own members.
Let’s start with the premise that, in Pakistan, the Army and ISI's support, or at least quiet acquiescence, is needed for any civilian government to successfully be in power.
Imran Khan was elected with their support in 2018, in, what some say, an election rigged by the Army. At the very least, the Army convinced multiple influential politicians from the PML-N (Nawaz Sharif's party) to switch to Imran, bringing their vote banks in Punjab along, which is PML-N's stronghold, and the most crucial province, having more than half the seats in Pakistan.
Fast forward to 2022, Imran appears to have lost the Army's support. The likely reason is, Army chief Qamar Bajwa has realised that the Army has become too openly politicised, and too linked to Imran's government, which is unpopular due to massive inflation, and lack of tangible policies.
This, despite the fact that inflation was caused by a combination of Covid and past mismanagement by the PML-N finance minister, and Imran has introduced much needed reforms that will take time to flourish, like public health insurance.
Politics, and the Pakistani Army, though, are both unforgiving. Also because, when in October, Bajwa tried to replace ISI chief Faiz Hameed, a strong Imran supporter, with Nadeem Anjum, who would supposedly make the ISI neutral, the PM, sensing danger, attempted in vain to block the appointment, which was a massive insult to Bajwa. The Army chief usually gets free hand in picking Army and ISI personnel.
So the Army's lack of support, combined with the poor economic situation and unpopularity of the Imran government, gave an opening to the opposition to kick out the PM with the support of its own defecting allies.

The Army & IK had a falling out on the appointment of ISI Chief, they also have different people in their minds to become the next COAS!
Army runs the show here, you toe the line or you are gone. They can bring you back though if needed (PML-N, PPP, MQM).
No PM has ever completed their term in Pakistan for a reason!

Only Asif Ali Zardari has. But he's Zardari, and he's Zardari for a reason.

I don't think I can say it any better than CK already has. If I had to, in cricket terms - Pakistan need 31 runs off 12 balls and Shahid Afridi is batting with a tailender. :/

If IK loses the no confidence (which he's most likely to), Pakistan will be headed towards a dark, dark path. Quite possibly irreversible and irreparable for the foreseeable. Absolutely frightening to think about.

So all of this is absolutely insightful. I asked because I did not want have an opinion just based on sell out media. I thought Imran Khan had good public support. I did know about the army influence but did not know that it was to this extent where it could overthrow a government.

Do people like Imran? What is his perception?

He has lots of support among urban and better educated people. Problem is, they’re the minority, and the previous PMLN government is more popular among the masses (talking about Punjab only, because it basically decides the government), because of their huge infrastructure projects, and improvements in electricity supply, which are things whose effect can be seen immediately. The poor and working class want immediate relief, while Imran's policies are forced to be long-term ones, because of the financial mismanagement of the last government.

Just wanted to hear yall views on the Indian administration unofficially backing Russia in the conflict with Ukraine.

Personally I am surprised by India’s stance and I fully support them having the balls for a change and not aligning with the Western oligarchy!

Currently there's no prime minister here in Pakistan :lol

I read somewhere that Pakistan Supreme Court voluntarily voided the verdict of President of Pakistan to dissolve the assembly on advise of IK.

I'm not going to say what's wrong or what's right for Pakistan politics. But to upheld the constitution of the country, the judiciary system must be unanimous and independent. Hats off to the supreme court of Pakistan for being proactive in this regards.

If IK had faced the no confidence motion and lost it gracefully he would've won the trust of people. And made a comeback with absolute majority when fresh elections is held. Just like in India, 1999, Atal Bihari Vajpayee government lost the no confidence motion by just 1 vote. ABV gracefully stepped down as Prime Minister of the country and went into the election. And as expected, got a majority this time.

Exactly, no matter the political outcome is, the Constitution and rule of law must be respected.

Well i think the camaraderie is always the lovable part of it. Many people see it as a big win for most of us and i think no one can deny the fact that it is really doing well than most of us think since there are some others who can deal with it in a way where we can thrive as a whole with no limits at this point.
