Random Country Test Draft -- DONE. Time for comments/discussion

I guess Cricketman can make his pick since Dare has already said he's going to choose Sir Richard, right?

Also, can we just remove TGS from the draft altogether? It's been moving real fast without him.

Yeah, might as well remove TGS from the draft. No point him picking a full XI at the end of the draft.

If Dare's definitely picking Hadlee, then Cricketman might as well make his pick. I'm happy to wait for Dare to confirm his pick, and make the post properly though.

Cuddy is a perfect fit for my team and with Richard Hadlee being my pick for the New Zealand part of the draft it will make a great pace trio.

I say we move forward. I don't see why he wouldn't pick Sir Richard Hadlee. He'd be anyone's first New Zealand pick. We'll leave it upto Cricketman, I guess.

I'm just going to post it -

Shane Bond

For me, Bond is easily the best pure fast bowler of this era. Injuries and the ICL cut his career short but 87 wickets in 18 games at a great average of 22 is phenomenal. His strike rate is fearsome as well, picking up a wicket every 38 deliveries. He is fast, accurate, and bowls lethal bouncers and yorkers both. His raw pace added with his ability to move it both ways in the air and off the deck make him an effective bowler in all conditions.

Bond was my backup choice, incase I didn't get who I initially wanted from NZ.

C'mon KP, don't you dare take who I have lined up! :p

The only problem I have with Bond is the lack of cricket and the lack of durability. He would have trouble lasting a full series as he showed against Pakistan and also he hasn't bowled much in the subcontinent. Also he has 24 wickets from 4 tests against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh which boosts his record considerably. Still a solid fast bowler.

Fingers crossed that KP doesn't take my pick or I will have to rethink all my plans.

Not really. There's still that other guy who was better at what he did.

I like Bond. Yes, durability was an issue. But Bond can make the ball talk better than any fast bowler in the world can.

Meh....last in the Kiwi pick, but being first in the Indoa round makes up for it I suppose.

Bond would have to come into contention of course as he has proven himself to be a very a talented cricketer, however I incline to agree with the view that he never quite did enough; the potential is obvious but is he a true great?

Then again one has to ask the question: who else??

My New Zealand selection is Sir Richard Hadlee

The best cricketer New Zealand ever produced and one of the best the world has ever seen. Hadlee was a great faster bowler with 431 wickets from 86 test matches and was also a really useful lower order hard hitting batsman with 2 test centuries and 15 fifties to his name. The 431 wickets came cheap with an average of 22.29 and a strike rate of 50.8. Hadlee also picked up 36 5fers and 9 10 wicket hauls which puts him behind only Murali and the Aussie dude when it comes to 5fers and 10 wicket hauls.

8. Richard Hadlee

10. Allan Donald
11. Courtney Walsh

Yep Hadlee is right up there with the real greats and a few light years ahead of anyone else who has donned a Blackcap in my humble opinion.

Im a bit confused, why did Rohit pick before Dare?

Dare already said he was going to pick Hadlee when he picked Walsh so we just wanted to keep the draft running. We are currently waiting on KP, then it's Zorax, me, and finally Dutchad.

ah ok, thanks for clearing it up and good idea to keep it flowing, although we are already going at a pretty quick pace :)

When I drafted Walsh I knew I had the first pick for New Zealand so in the bottom of my comment about Walsh I said that I will be taking Hadlee. For one to show what my pace attack will look like and also in case the draft got to New Zealand before I got online people could continue without me holing it up.
