DOUBLE HUNDRED DEBUT!

Leicestershire 467 for 4, Day 1 Close of Play

Two Marvellous innings from Gardener (201) and Mathers who is still at the crease on 187 not out, led the foxes charge towards a mammoth score. As said at tea, Gardener began to attack and reached his 150 off just 158, taking him only 38 balls from 100 to 150. But then he mounted a real charde as 28 balls and 5 sixes later he reached a double hundred off 186 balls.

Mathers on the other hand has only slightly accelerated and is still batting with a little bit of caution. He reached his 150 off 211 balls, with 19 fours. Since then he has moved onto 187 with 25 fours and a straight six off de Bruyn.

As for the other batsman, Manning scored 32 at a run a ball, and was timing the ball quite nicely until he got a little too over confident attempting to pull Charl Willoughby into the stand. Instead he just top edged it to square leg. The other batsman at the crease alongside Mathers is Shelton who is on 6 not out having faced only 5 balls.

Going into day 2 it will be interesting to see how much longer the foxes bat for and the speed at which they score those runs.

On the bowling front Charl Willoughby is still pick of the bowlers, but he has only bowled 7 overs out of the 84 bowled in the day. He has taken 2-33 in an impressive spell. At the other end of the spectrum is the chinaman Paul Adams who has bowled 9 overs for 86, and he was unlucky enough to be bowling to Gardener when he was timing the skin off the ball. In one over Adams went for 22, with Gardener hitting 4 fours and a six. de Bruyn has been the most used bowler with 27 overs but he has gone for 162!! Henderson has figgures of 21-1-80-0 and Zondeki 20-1-105-1.

Going into the second days play we can expect some fireworks from the Foxes batsman as they play for the declaration then it is down to the seamers. Towards the end of the day de Bruyn was getting some swing out of the pitch but some balls were just being sat up to hit by the batsman. Also Adams was generating some spin which will be encouraging for Holden, Khalid and Mathers as the game wears on.

Leicestershire 467 -4 (Mathers 187*, Gardener 201, Shelton 6*, Zondeki 1-105, Willoughby 2-33, De Bruyn 1-162)

Why you should be captain: Personally I think I should be the captain because I have had previous experiences of being a captain and leading the team. It would be an honour to become the captain. If I were captain I would do my level best to guide Leicestershire with respect to victory.

MATHERS MAULS SAFFERS FOR MAMMOTH SCORE

Leicestershire 554 for 5 declared, South Africa A 30 for 1, Day 2 Lunch

Ross Mathers collected Leicestershires second double hundred of the game as he and Shelton pile on the runs ready for the declaration, which Captain for the game Holden applied an hour before lunch.

Mathers was not out as the declaration came, he was left with 217. He reached 200 off 259 balls, and his journey from 150 to 200 was his quickest taking him only 48 balls. He then started attacking and he launched 2 sixes in succession. One he hooked into the stand and other was a bullet straight drive.

Shelton also passed 50, and he stated his intentions as soon as he came in, be trying to smash Zondeki out of the park. He contributed with 58 in just 50 with 7 fours and 2 sixes. You could tell from the smile on his face the fun he was having. He was out as he missed a straight one from Paul Adams, which bought in the captain Holden, who off his first ball he hit a 4 and then called for the declaration.

On the bowling front for the South Africans there wasn't very much to shout about. Henderson 0-106 was the most economical. Zondeki got 1-105, Charl Willoughby was underused only bowling 9 overs, but got 2-63. Adams 1-116 off 14 overs recieved alot of treatment due to some poor bowling. And de Bruyn 1-163.

So the foxes made a mammoth score, and the South African had 50 minutes to survive before the lunch interval.

The two opening batsman Van Wyk and Puttick looked nervous as they ambled out to the crease, and they were met with some fierce accurate bowling from the two opening Bowlers Chez Spin and Suren Ram.

Suren Ram got the break through after Puttick had hit Spin for two fours in an over. Puttick was met with a surprising bouncer which he was so late in timing. It went straight down Shelton's throat at Mid Off. Van Wyk and McKenzie have steadied the ship and taken them to 30 for 1 at Lunch.

Both bowlers were very controlled, Spin's 6 overs going for 17 and Suren Rams going for just 13.

The Foxes will be looking to make an early breakthrough to restrict the South Africans. And with the trio of Spinners to bowl who knows what will happen?!

CAPTAIN CONJURES UP MAGIC!!

Leicestershire 554 for 5 declared, South Africa A 70 for 5, Day 2 Tea

Some great captaincy from Ollie Holden has led to the South Africans being in a state of disaray. His bowling changes have done the trick as Leicestershire hunt for a first game win.

Early in the session he took off the opening bowlers, Spin and Ram and brought on himself and Avroneel Biswas. Holden was to produce one of the balls of the century as he bowled Van Wyk for 22. The ball pitched way outside off stump, van Wyk attempted to play a forward defensive. The ball beat the outside edge and clipped the top of off and middle. This wicket was key as Van Wyk was starting to look more confident. Holden at tea, had figures of 9 overs, 3 maidens 1 wicket for a misely 6 runs!!

During this session the trio of quick bowlers were to take no more wickets. Biswas one of the more expensive bowlers going at just under 3 an over. Holden realised that spin was the way forward. He brought on Arslaan Khalid to bowl his slow left armers, and he removed the two guys who were looking settled and who were frustrating due to their slow pace. Both got out in similar fashions as they both came down the track and Khalid got them both bowled through the gate. McKenzie making 20 and de Bruyn 7 off 58 balls!! Khalid bowled very economically, with 2wickets for 6 runs from his 7 overs.

The final wicket taker was Hill who bowled his medium ibbly bibbly bobblers particulary well. He got van Jaarsveld for just one caught by Manning behind the stumps. He almost had 2 in 2, as new batsman Jacobs edged the first but it fell a long way short of the two slips. Hills four overs only going for one run.

In the last session of Day 2 we shall see if the Foxes can wrap the south african innings up, or will Duminy and Jacobs see it through. They may speed the run rate up as well, the SOuth Africans 70 runs have come off 40 overs!! Join us for the next update soon. C'MON YOU FOXES!!!
