South Africa in England July-Sept 2012

Jeez, when did Trott's average border around the 50 mark? Last time I checked, he was above 60...

Lol Elbow-bw.

England might loose this.

As most people had said before this series started, the magnitude of this series really meant it had to be 5 tests to be honest or at minimum 4 tests

Even if South Africa win at Lords (especially if its a tight win), who is to say England couldn't come back and draw or win the series?.

Looking back maybe the West Indies should have only had 2 tests or the Australian ODI series should not have happened (although that series was organized mainly to get gates with the EUROs and Olympics around).

However in an attempt to predict the results if England do manage to win the final test and draw the series, South Africa would only have themselves to blame and it would be fair to call them test match chockers, just like they are readily referred to as ODI chockers given their failures in major world-cup knockout matches.

S Africa could have been clear # 1 in everyone's mind if they had beaten India in India in 2008 or 2010. But they lost the final tests of both series after winning the 1st tests, so the ghost of those results will be put to the test @ Lord's.

For England if they lose, it won't be in the end of the world. All it would mean is that they have lost to a S Africa team which in theory is better than them.

England team would still be good enough to win in India later this year and the Ashes next year.

It's a little bit ridiculous that a minnow like Australia gets a full 5 test series against us, but a top of the rankings clash like this only gets 3.

(Waits for Sedition :p )

Fully agree that this should have been 5 Tests. West Indies should have been here for 2 matches and then the South Africans for 5. Next year I believe we have New Zealand over for 2 Tests and then the Ashes.

Sure, but 5 Tests of this would have been intolerable. Dull wickets and rain; I mean it's just a crotch punch for Test cricket.

It is annoying that England have picked their worst Test match grounds. Would have been nice to see Old Trafford and Edgbaston making this a 5 test series.

Pietersen admits future in doubt

Let it be said now, if Andy Flower and the ECB make KP walks away from England, they all should loose their jobs.:facepalm

The bidding process for tests in the past decade pretty much means except for Lord's, the best ground are never really chosen for tests anymore.

The ODI series against Aus could have been scrapped for another Test.

It's not as simple as that, if you sign a contract to have an ODI series between England and Australia in England every 2 years you need to honour that contract.

I'm going to first day of Lords. Looking forward to it though I've no idea what to expect.

Judging by some reports on BBC it could be Pietersen's last. :(

If it is, KP's the idiot. He'll regret it when he's 40 years old. You need to play as many Tests as you can when you are young and fit enough and if he walks away now he's making a big mistake.
