Sri Lanka in South Africa Dec-Jan 2011/12

Last time Sri Lankan batting was just as shambolic as today in 1st N-Power test series against Engalnd, shock all-out for 82 in the second innings..I had predicted for a whitewash, but to my utter surprise, they did well to hold a rampaging English side for draws in the remaining 2 tests and final scorecard in that series read 1-0 in favor of England.

I'm not surprised with Sri Lanka playing the way they did today, it's quite typical of sub-continent teams to play like that on bouncing and seaming condition. But I'll hold back my predictions for the current series until it's over.. For now, let's hope that Sri Lanka can provide at least a semblance of fight going forward in the series.

Sad to Sri Lankan cricket in this situation they don't have batsman with patience and eagerness to play long which I hope is not due to money reason.

Bowling is worst then Bangladesh and India. They have no one whom they can call leader of bowling due to injuries.

Hehe, wonder if they promised him green wickets at Taunton :)

Well done Somerset for moving quickly. Shame if the IPL gets in the way.

Why is it Shame if IPL gets in the way? It would be shame on Philander to chose IPL money over Somerset. Why does IPL BCCI every time need to be under scanner when players have the options(especially overseas players) to opt out :rolleyes

Exactly. Everybody criticizes IPL whenever they get a chance. It depends on player that if he wants to play or not. It's not like we drag players to IPL. If they prefer money over other cricket than it's players choice we can't do anything about it.

lol calm down guys. I quite don't think he'll be offered an IPL contract, considering he's only an FC specialist, plus his two month stint there at Taunton would do wonders for him in the Test series against England that follows. So it's highly likely he'll put pen to paper at Taunton. :)

IPL causes global warming
IPL causes economic recession

They could use some motivation, but it's not like Sri Lanka have ever won in South Africa. It's not even their worst innings defeat in SA.

Dam! Philander stats are insane. 3 matches, 24 wickets average 12.37 and 4 5fers!

And to think people were saying he isn't international quality, only picked because he's black to fill the quota. Makes me wonder, did they ever see him bowl, check his FC stats, or just jump up and down about him being picked over white players with less experience and worse stats?

Deary me, calm down. No-one is criticising your precious IPL.

I think it a shame if an IPL contract gets in the way of him coming to Somerset, that's all.

Srilanks lacks some good pacers to support Malinga. In Tests, they even don't have Malinga! Ferveez Mahroof could do wonders to the line-up but I can't understand why isn't he being picked?
