Sri Lanka in South Africa Dec-Jan 2011/12

Half way till 2012 we will see this point table

England - 118 points
South Africa - 114 points
India - 113 points
Australia - 111 points
Pakistan - 105 points
Sri Lanka - 105 points
West Indies - 83 points
New Zealand - 82 points

i can certainly see smaller gaps in the points, england are the only dominant team out of anyone right now.

the traditionally weaker teams seem to be the ones digging up all the talent right now. australia, south africa or india, 3 traditional giants just keep trying out and disgarding new batsmen, they would love the batting talents that the west indies or pakistan have uncovered right now.

dale steyn 15 runs short of becoming south africa's 5th most prolific batsman of 2011. shows how desperate they are for better performances from their opener, no. 6 and keeper.

Well, that ends the 99 runs partnership. Good innings and if there would have been some support from top order then South Africa would have chased this down.

Anyways where is that mammoth averaged Hashim Amla now? Players like Amla, Trott who have mammoth average will be pulled down drastically in some time

Also if what I read is true then its going to be a problem

Some forecasts say there may be rain tomorrow. Can Sri Lanka finish it off today.

Finally! a real team effort with everyone chipping in. Wonderful moment to win in SA at last. Some runs on the board can do you wonders which is preciously what we hadn't in last few test matches. We were always chasing the match. Good to see we dominate a match finally. Hopefully this will give them confidence and self belief they lost.

Chandimal is such a loudmouth. SA batsmen must have been pretty annoyed with him. Especially Steyn:p

Very good win for Sri Lanka. Glad to see them doing well.

P.S. Kalis got a pair. :D

Herath was too good for the SA batting line up. I'm surprised how poor some of them played but I guess they can be buoyed by Amla and AB putting in a more than decent performance. And what about Steyn??? Loved it.

One thing clear from teams struggling with the bat is their keepers aren't doing much. SL for a change had their keeper producing back to back 50s which is near perfect. Rudolph has to go, he has done nothing since returning to the side.

He scored 51 today before running himself out...

He didn't run himself out, prince did. Prince goes straight away they get in.

Batting let us down again.:facepalm Really hilarious from Smith to blame the bowlers for the loss today...

Du Plessis has to be consided, the way he's been batting in the SuperSport series has been superb. He scored a really good 80 yesterday and scored a century in the last match so he must be putting pressure on Prince.

Colin Ingram has been excellent form as well. But they won't go for either, they will go back to duminy....

Very surprised that SA batsmen collapsed like this to SRI attack.

it's not that surprising. SA is a 4 man batting team, prince hasn't performed in years, rudolph isn't settling into the openers role, boucher is dire. steyn is their 5th best batsman this year and he's not even that great for a no.8, he knows what he's doing but hardly pushing for an all-rounder tag.

not to mention that south africa have been getting pwned by decent spin for years.

i think it's a bit too easy to say south africa just threw this test away. sri lanka have been under-performing all year, I would think not being paid wasn't helping that. aussie mentioned that they brought in a talented wicketkeeper-bat which increased their depth and their bowlers are generally quicker than a lot of people give them credit for.

Herath gets five. Sri Lanka's first Test win on South African soil. Well done!

SL unsurprisingly improved once they were paid for the first time since March
