Sri Lanka's tour of India - November 2014

That really is a surprisingly good move from the selectors - resting MSD and Bhuvi. Makes the series more interesting as well .. hope Kuldeep gets a couple of opportunities. He will be greatly tested against SL

Australia vs India 2014 - Chance for Virender Sehwag to make India recall: reports | gocricket.com

^ Surely Surely Surely Not ! :spy

Look the Sehwag fan in me is delighted, and excited if it were to go through, but the rational side of me says surely not!

Here is the interesting bit -

Hmm .. this surely cant be true. In any case, Unmukt Chand and Manan Vohra are in the squad for the SL tour game. So I am guessing that's why they weren't picked for North Zone.

North Zone squad looks like a Seniors XI squad - Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Harbhajan :spy

The five ODIs are scheduled to be played on November 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14, with Cuttack and Kolkata set to host the first two ODIs.

As I have said before, this selection committee has taken some good decisions recently and another good decision they have taken is to bring in Varun Aaron for Bhuvi. Varun is a good ODI bowler but he needs some consistent chances to prove it. I still don't think we need Ishant Sharma and Murli Vijay in the ODI squad and we should just let them focus on the longer format. However, due to Ishan't experience, he is likely to feature in the final 11. If Kohli really wants to be aggressive, he should go all out pace attack with Shami, Yadav and Varun Aaron and Ashwin as the spinner. Even though short on experience, that will be an aggressive bowling line-up. You do feel bad for Kuldeep but he is pretty young and he is likely to get his chance in the future. This is also an important series for Ambati Raydu. If he wants to make it to the World cup squad, he really needs to perform in this series. I feel that if Raydu fails in this series, Manoj Tiwary will come in place of him in Australia.

other venues announced as well today other than Cuttack and Kolkata they are at Ranchi Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, only Bangalore misses out from the remaining venues of the now abandoned West indies Series.

To be hoenst I don't agree with this.

Rayudu has been part of the side for 3 months and has played some important innings. Manoj Tiwary on the other hand has done nothing. So I dont see the logic of Tiwary getting to walk into the side, without having been tested at the Int'l level off late, simply because Rayudu, who has been tested, had a poor series.

Having thought about this for a while, I will only say that while your explanation does seem to fill some gaps (assuming there was indeed a fixture clash with the North Zone match and 'A' side match), there is still a big gap.

Sehwag averaged 19.15 (19.something), probably last season. So even if Chand and Vohra were in the 'A' side, then Sehwag based on that average would not be in the North Zone side. I am sure there were quite a few openers who were less then Chand and Vohra, but much better than Sehwag last season.

So had the selection been on last season's numbers, then even with Chand and Vohra being unavailable, Sehwag would be nowhere near the North Zone side.

The fact that Sehwag is in the side to begin with hints that there are larger considerations, or considerations beyond just the last season's numbers at play. So the link to him being in Aus, as third opener, cannot be ruled out.

I still think its madness, but madness when associated with Sehwag is not always a thing to worry about.

^^ There is a very good possibility that this might be the last straw for the seniors in the team - especially for guys like Sehwag and Yuvraj (Bhajji is out due to injury I believe). In t hat case, I hope they don't only put up mediocre performances and are definitely not considered for Aus/World Cup

Sri Lanka will be without the experience of Lasith Malinga and Rangana Herath in their squad for a one-day international series against India starting next week.

So with no Dhoni, no Malinga and no Herath, this series has already lost it's charm :noway

There are other 22 players who make up the squad for both the teams and they are as awesome as Dhoni Hearth and Malinga if not better. No series loses charm, its upto the expectation of us as fans what we are expecting and if we dont get that then the series is useless and/or has no charm.

Sehwag scored a brisk and dominant 32, what does that tell us about his selection chances? Interestingly for all the speculation of him being in line as the third opener for Aus, he batted at no. 3. Not happening I say.
