Stadium Creator Discussion

Harare Sports Club is a nice looking ground bro ! Not at all bland looking

I suppose it'd be hard to control the crowd if they could go just anywhere but perhaps a new type of "pavillion" could be added that is a grass embankment?

Don't they have something like that at the Adelaide Oval type ground in DBC14? I think at Bradman Oval too they are scattered around on the grass?
yeah! like this may be!

Some incredibly frustrating controls unfortunately.

For example, you are in stadiums, you click on one of the sub options, say Classic. From there you cannot go back without being asked to quit, with the default newer being yes so it's very easy to accidentally quit. Otherwise, you have to place the object but then if you block B again to go back it again asks if you want to quit...

Okay so some further feedback.

The grandstand placement is way harder than it should be. Particularly for an oval, it is very hard to get the curvature right. It's also hard to align the grandstands well without snapping, and with snapping it often puts the grandstand poking out onto the ground.

Really, it should be a very simple command: one chooses a grandstand type and then clicks the boundary where it is desired and it is placed there with the curvature automatically done, you can then change how many gates and the curvature around the boundary is automatically done so you can do a whole bowl if you want in basically two clicks.

I understand that manual placement is nice, and by all means keep it in particular for little things like sheds and country pavilions, but just to get a basic grandstand setup around an oval took me 45 minutes, until I accidentally deleted a piece and couldn't undo the move and I gave up. A copy paste would also be very handy if you've just made a stand with the tiers, roof, colour etc just how you want and want to have some consistency throughout the stand.

Also for the roads I'm not sure why there is a concrete border that fills the whole square. Why couldn't that just be transparent leaving solely the road?

Quite a negative tone I'm sorry. Of course this is an early beta and the purpose is feedback so I'm sure it will improve.

@whiteninness I appreciate the feedback, however, "The grandstand placement is way harder than it should be.", "Really, it should be a very simple command" and statements like that do not serve any purpose whatsoever and don't need to be written, ever.

Short pointed statements of fact without adjectives are the way to go. ie 1. do this 2. do that. 3 got this result.

Fair enough, with a bit more elaboration.

i believe the optimum means "snapping" is not just from one grand stand to another but around the perimeter of the ground.

I envision this being simple in the circular case in the sense that the angle of curvature is constant and the grand stands already have five or so different angles of curvature, one of which I'm sure fits a full circle.

Problems may arise for an oval where the angle of curvature varies. If the grand stands can be dynamically adjusted to any curvature by the code then all is fine, but if they are hard coded at the set of five or so angles that we can currently pick from then my suggestion of being able to click on any point of the boundary and stretch the stand around the oval won't work. One way around this would be to segment the boundary of the oval somewhat such that there is a grandstand 3D geometry at the right curvature that perfectly snaps into each segment.

Given the amount of different curvatures available right now, I believe the ground would only have to be loosely segmented, say into 16 or maybe more pieces (that is probably how many gates you could squash around an oval right now anyway....) and hence you could provide a bucket load of ease for only a very marginal loss of customization.

For the square stadium similar would apply. I haven't tried making one yet owing to the already known bug but some sort of triangle corner joining pieces would be needed to have a stadium that follows the ground contours smoothly but isn't oddly curved. That may already be possible though....

And I stress that would just be for typical curved grand stands. Individual pavilions could still be plonked a you wish and, as is presently the case, snapping could be turned off.

Another item in the wish-list for v2 would be press boxes/commentary boxes/hospitality boxes as options in the part-by-part tier editing feature. A lot of stadia have these as their middle tiers.

Faced an issue I haven't seen before - only my stands seem to have disappeared from my stadium. Unfortunately I don't have a 'before' screenshot. Is there any more info I can help with?

Same thing happened to me, people are looking into it, zip up your DBC save folder MyDocuments>Games and attach it here

Attached.

Must mention that after this happened, I hit Save once, not sure if that changes the state permanently to no stands.

There should be a "Don Bradman Cricket 17" folder in the My Games folder, can you attach that one?

My bad, I attached files from a different machine. :facepalm Uploading the right folder now.

EDIT: Here you go.
