Super 8: 13th Match NZ v Ireland

Neil Broom. Franklin is too much of a good finisher to use at number three, and with Oram so out of form we will need him. Although I do like your thinking :D

Our team goes from probable Semi Finalist to almost favourites if we add Ryder, Vettori and Taylor, but I can't see us beating Sri Lanka, South Africa or India with the team we've got now.

Semi-Finalist yes, favourites no. We were always going to struggle against India and South Africa, and after watching Sri Lanka I wouldn?t be too confident in beating them.

I think you lot could beat us,India ,whichever match you play. The Indians would probably have a mental block against a team that has beaten them fair and square in 4 T2o's on a trot.

My XI for tonight:

1. B McCullum
2. Guptill
3. Styris
4. Broom
5. Oram
6. Franklin
7. McGlashan
8. N McCullum
9. Mills
10. Butler
11. O'Brien

Presuming Taylor is out. Batting order can change depending on circumstance. It's only Ireland (not to underestimate them or anything) but by that I mean, there's no real pace bowling or anything which should trouble guys like Styris/Broom/Franklin/Oram if they were to come in early.

O'Brien didn't look great game 1, but he deserves another chance and Diamanti is even worse than him. I'm more comfortable thinking of O'Brien bowling 4 overs than I am of Diamanti bowling 4.

That's the team I would like to see also, Styris could work pretty well at three as he seems like the best grafter for us now. Wouldn't mind seeing McGlashan come up the order though.

Howsie added 0 Minutes and 48 Seconds later...

England aren't in our group ;)

Yeah that will probably be the team, although Broom will probably bat 3 and Styris 4.

The last time NZ played Ireland in an ODI was the game where McCullum and Marshall smashed 160+ each with Taylor also hitting a 24ball half century...A T20 shouldn't have a very different outcome...

Last yime there was vettori who took most of the wickets and too was a depleted irish side.Players like O'Brien brothers,Rankinand Johnston were not there
This has match no Vettori,Ryder,Franklin,Taylor and still you think Kiwi's win it???
There bowling attack lacks fire and penetration power[No quality spinner or fast bowler].And batting relies on Mcullum and he is not in great form for me he is the most inconsistent player of the lot. With Nial and Johnston back I fancy the irish. And never underestimate them they are a team who know conditions as good as England and they have a intent do things.I go with Irish as my heart says so

We scored 400, I don't think Vettori was the reason for our win lol.

I agree with the team posted above by Irottev I would have McGlashan at 3 though. The kind of bowlers the Irish have are exactly like the ones he has been smashing around all year for ND. Just have to hope no one else gets injured its looking a bit thin right now.

He obviously hasn't seen how good Butler is bowling atm either.

i think batting franklin at #3 is one hell of an idea especially against the minnows.
if not him,may be scotty or broom

Oops, I forgot Vettori in my XI. I'd definitely play 2 spinners. O'Brien to miss out again probably.

Styris is a better batsman than Broom and has played 3 before and is experienced. He'll be able to sum up the situation and play accordingly. Broom is still new. I'd rather he was at 4 which is still a key role, but takes some of the pressure off him hopefully.
