Super 8: 19th Match Ireland v Sri Lanka

Ireland needed catch to be caught on last bowl of their bowling innings and six on taht no ball.
That would have been a tie.

Sri Lanka's net runrate after the win against Pakistan was 0,95. And after the win against the win against Ireland it's 0,7. So Ireland helped the other teams a bit.

And yeah, New Zealand have only to beat Sri Lanka now to get through. They don't even have to think about the net runrate, except in the case that D/L plays a role.

That can't be right can it, how can winning make it go down?

I was surprised about it as well. But I checked it out myself. Compare it with the points table: http://www.cricinfo.com/wt202009/engine/series/335113.html?view=pointstable

A simple calculation:

Sri Lanka won the first match by 19 runs: +0.95 (19 runs/20 overs)
Sri Lanka won the second match by 9 runs: +0.70 (19+9 runs/20+20 overs)

It's an easy calculation because Sri Lanka have played in both matches 20 overs. And the opposition did the same.

Sri Lanka have a pretty strong bowling line-up--probably the closest to South Africa. If they didn't have any one of Malinga, Murali and Mendis, Ireland would have taken this game.

So if Sri Lanka loose against New Zealand, and Pakistan beat Ierland, then that means they're knocked out, doesn't it. That would be a shame. They haven't even lost a game. Hope they beat New Zealand. GO SRI LANKA!!!:banana

Well done Ireland! Woulda preferred Ireland won but they played well. Good on them. Could have taken that game too with just a little bit more. Was pretty close.

We can beat Sri Lanka. Their latest games have been close. Question is, will it be our day or their day. They're due to go down. It's just 1 game. I actually really like the prospect of this. Lets face it, if we can't beat SL we were ever going to win it anyway. So a chance to knock them out now and go through is actually a really good position. Then really only South Africa to worry about since India and Australia are gone!

Don't know who Kulasekara replaced but he shouldn't be in the side again. Easily the weak link in the bowling lineup. We saw how important Dilshan is, him getting out for duck left SL with a below par total.

If we hadn't nabbed Morgan they might have won this :(
