Tamil Music/Movie Thread

According to me, Aadhi Bhagwan stands out for the quality, and Thuppaki for the entertainment. Inspite of not liking Simbhu, I have heard "Poda Podi" songs three times, but it just doesn't rise above Thuppaki in terms of entertainment. Everyone has different tastes!

Watching 'Maatraan' in a few hours. Mixed reviews about a bad second half. But its a Surya film, I am confident I will be entertained.:thumbs

Aadhibhagavan songs are refreshing.
I love three songs - Agadam Bagadam, Bhagavan Rap, Kaatrile Nadanthene.
What's your favourite guys?

My favorite is Katrile Nadanthene, Yavum Poidhana and Agadam Bagadam.

Have you watched "Yaavarum Nalam"? Neetu is good in it.

I also dislike Simbhu... Can't stand him. Only good film of his was Vinnaithandi Varuvayaa, and for that too the credit goes to Gautham Menon and AR Rahman.

Can't compare Thuppaki teaser with Billa-2 and Maatran trailers. Its a teaser, the rest of the two are trailers. Out of Billa-2 and Maatran, I liked Maatran the most. Billa-2 was a mega disappointment. But I didn't like the first version too (Ajith's Billa in 2007). Wish Billa-2's failure stops Ajith from going any further with that franchise.

Nope, haven't seen Yaavarum Nalam, heard about it though.

Watched 'Maatraan' today. Must say that it was a very fun film apart from a very ordinary and a drawn out climax. The reviews for the film are silly and smell of hypocrisy. Nobody expected KV Anand to make a preachy film. He is a formulaic commercial director whose motive is to make entertaining films. Yet he tries to add realism to his entertainment in an effort to increase the impact. Wonder what people expected from this film when they watched it.

Surya as the conjoined twins was just superb.. In both roles, he was excellent. Kajal for a change has a role in the story going forward and she is adept too. Harris needs a break from these routinue music and needs to come up with something different. On the whole, its a film that's a time pass ride and far better than recent ones like Billa-2, Thaandavam and Mugamoodi.

3.8/5

Heard that climax is completely waste. Will watch the film today eve and post my views.

Neerparavai, a low budget film starring Vishnu and Suneina produced by Red Giant, it's songs are released. Anyone heard it? do post about the songs if you did.

Namma Vijay (and some Ajith) fans ellam kodutha hyper build up for the movie, I didn't find even the climax to be so bad...... Vj and Ajith fans don't like Surya's rise in recent times, and so whenever a Surya movie comes out, they do their work on orkut and FB. This is one of the reasons why I have come out of orkut. I still read them though (due to the need to know about news of Tamil cinema), and I hope I stop it soon.

Climax was ordinary, I agree. But waste ellam kandippa ila. If you have heard a lot of negative reviews on 'Maatraan', definitely do watch it. You will most probably end up liking it. Its not a movie worth hating for sure.

I dont disrespect any hero but i am crazy and mad about Madhavan.Any other Maddy fans here??:)

Add me in. Really love his movies a lot! Miss him so much in Tamil cinema these days. I am not a die hard fanatic (which means I will criticise him if his film is not good), but I love watching Maddy and his films.

Favorites of his are Minnale, Dumm Dum Dumm, Nala Damayanthi and obviously 'Alaipayuthey'.

The film was 'okay' mate. But I think the haters(especially Vijay fans) were too harsh on it. Climax was pretty ordinary. Everyone said 1st half is good but I liked the second half, don't know why. It is an above average movie which manages to satisfy you. There are few flaws in it.
Good for Surya fans. Average for neutrals like me.
The film can be watched once. :thumbs

Warning for Vijay fans, if you dance overly now you will face the music during Thuppaki's release. :p

Madhavan is a fine actor. I like his films what Sai mentioned and Yaavarum Nalam too.

Anybody know who sung the rap in Aadhi Bhagavan? In album it is mentioned that, he's "The Prophecy" Is he a canadian rapper? Can anyone link his wikipedia page or whatever I wanna know about him. :)

True. I find Vijay fans' hyper reactions to Surya films these days as very irritating. Ivanga fav actor romba apdiye kaaviyam padaichite irukura madhiri. That's why I don't feel bad when Vijay's films are criticised/put down these days (once upon a time, I used to passionately fight with people who pulled a Vijay movie down). Ajith fans have been like this not just now, but always. Ajith is a highly over rated actor to have such loyal fan support. He is Bollywood's equivalent of Salman Khan - highly ordinary, but overtly followed.

I like characters, not the guy playing the character. Totally different actress' though, if you know what I mean. ;)

Maatraan's production team have apparently chopped 20 or so minutes from the film and have re-released it, a minute from the 1st half and 19 minutes out of the 2nd half.

I liked Maatran without the trimming itself. Wonder how it looks with the trimming. Most definitely, overseas audience won't be getting to see the trimmed version. Got to see if they release the trimmed version for DVD.

If you guys have the time and the money, do read the book "Conversations with Mani Ratnam". If you are a Mani Ratnam fan, you will go crazily in love with it. Even if you are not one, this book is a very good insight into Tamil films and how they have evolved over years. In this book, Mani Sir just talks a lot in detail about how he got into films, how his films got to being made, how the cast came into being, how his working relationships were with Ilayaraja and Rahman, etc.

Its available on Kindle, and its $15. But its highly worth it! I am loving it... Currently reading the chapter on "Mouna Raagam" (on how the movie happened, and what all happened). BRILLIANT!!

^Will buy it if I see it anywhere, won't buy it online though.

Nope, haven't seen Yaavarum Nalam, heard about it though.

She acted in Theeratha vilayattu pillai too. Her character name is Tejaswini, in the song she comes at 1:46.
