TAOC Discussion

such a nice feeling is coming from bottom of my heart when i saw the post of JK(i think i gave a good lecture:sarcasm)

i want to know from JK,after how much time you would release the video because if you would release it after 2-3 days, then i can PM my sher-e-bangla stadium to you after adding some finishings....

guys, havent been as active as before the injury. the 2 week off accumulated ████ load of pending work. add to that, diwali is coming up....so busy with shopping etc...

will hopefully be back into full swing from next monday !

LM on the other hand is working hard to balance ship and make sure theres enough progress at the end of the day.
so, nothing much to worry about !

Yes, i have been working non stop, with some really good progress. Have gotten the Lords stadium into the game now and is looking pretty darn superb i must say! The most interesting part of this though is the stadium stats that are now read in and used. All stadiums will have stats that determine their location, weather, outfield and pitch types to name a few. Will try to get a screenie or 2 posted up here at some stage soon. Have also got team selection, stadium selection and match type all coded in so we can choose all those parameters when we play test. The foundation of all stats and data loading is completed, which is really boring, but essential.

I'm now working on positioning the fielders once they have been loaded in, which will be based on preset default field data files. Then i'll be migrating the custome field editor code over.

So some good progress here, being very diligent and working through the boring stuff despite being really excited to get into the action!

Great to hear from u LM.I have one question regarding the fielding. If the user continue to play shots into the same gap repeatedly, will AI able to place a fielder on that position only without changing current field setting fully?

That's a great question. The answer is a resounding YES. The preset fields will be used for the AI at the start of certain situations, such as innings, new bowler etc. But they will be able to customize their fields as much as they need to after that - the presets are just a starting template for them. The way i have designed the world allows fielders to be anywhere on the field at any time and still be able to react normally.

It would simulate a captain saying "oi, you move over there a bit to stop those cover drives!!" ;)

W O W ! What else can I say?.Really, I thought it never implemented in any of the past games. This game really deserve it's name.

another superb feature of this game lm, really can't wait for an initial release

The next video we don't want to rush because it is a massive milestone video but I'm still aiming for end of this month. made some huge progress today which i am very happy about.

Have completed all the fielding preset stuff and positioning all of the fielders based on these. The tricky part in this was making sure that players (for preset user fields or for AI fields) will field in positions based on their stats which say their preferred or specialist fielding position. So Ponting would always be in slips for instance.

The other cool thing is users will be able to add an unlimited amount of 'preset' fields of which they can choose or which the AI can use in their own tactics.

Any ability to tag those presets? Or are we stuck with Custom ##?

LM,how's the bowling system in AOC?.By playing other cricket games I felt that bowling is always boring and the user has less control over the bowling. What I meant is choosing the amount of turn and speed doen't make bowling interesting.I like to see "bowling grip" system in a game,ie we can grip the ball anyway we want. That'll make bowling more realistic and according to the grip he chose the bowl will be an inswinger or a outswinger etc.The amount or swing, turn etc will depend entirely on the pitch and the conditions.
I think it'll give more control to the users.

It's just my thoughts and I know one thing for sure, current bowling system's are pretty bad.I have some hope in you for a realistic cricket game and I think you come up with a more initiative method than current ones.

Good Luck.

Custom fields will be 'taggable' - is that a word lol? Actually, i am going to need them to be edited in game after all because you will need to be able to arrange fielders then save out the custom field.

Damn, just realised this is going to be a bit more work than i had first anticipated :(

lol

guys,

was out of town to spend diwali with my family.
but back now and eager to get back into development.

no more breaks for a long time now...so expect some good progress from me ! :D

cheers

Will we see field settings that are symbolic of a certain team/country/captain's nature?

e.g. Dhoni is a very defensive captain and would put more fielders out on the boundary line than say, Ponting.

I know it's difficult do implement as even I couldn't tell you the nature of all captains in the Top 8 but it would be cool to have a few. However, I do see how this is potentially problematic in that there will then be people saying that the CPU isn't very responsive in its field settings for the teams with an attacking mentality.
