Tendulkar To Retire after his 200th Test :(

:facepalm

There might be more than 20 people in the stadium for that test! ;)
To bad he will get bowled for a king pair by the mighty roach!!

I need to get my flight tickets down to India.... :( Even though you know its coming soon, Indian fans must have dreaded this day and hoped that it never came. The emotional and soul attachment to this man far exceeds anything. If Indian fans are so passionate about Indian cricket, a big reason for it is Tendulkar. He drove India's passion for cricket, and as Kohli said during that post WC win message "he carried the burden of the nation for 24 years".

The memories won't die. Luckily for India, there is one more man out there for whom India can still watch cricket - Dhoni (although he is nowhere near Tendulkar in terms of craze and hysteria). Will miss you Sachin! Thanks for all those moments.

Good thing is, this will massively boost ticket sales for the India-WI tests, which otherwise would have seen near empty stadiums. Hope the team gives him a very royal sendoff. They carried him on shoulders after the WC win. They will do something special for him. Feel sad for Pujara. His own home crowd will be baying for his wicket wildly before that final innings comes up. I'm happy we get the opportunity to watch Sachin take a bow, unlike Dravid and Laxman who retired without having a farewell on the field.

Sad news but its the right call really, if he hadn't retired he surely would have been dropped as there is no way he could continue to remain in the side with his performances the last couple of years.

Good little milestone to end on. Will be different not seeing Tendulkar around but he hasn't been quite the same these past few years.

Always sad to see a great player go, even more so when its one of the best players to ever play the game. But a good decision by Sachin as he wasn't in good form and was getting bowled far too often for a player of his calibre. He must be feeling very relieved now that all these critics and so-called experts calling for his retirement can finally get off his back and shut the f**k up.

It's hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it's all I have ever done since I was 11 years old.

It's hard for us to imagine Cricket without you because it's all we have ever done since you were 16 years old.

Hah do not forget to watch that test match because I bet you will be surprised by the attendance.

I predict it will be about 50,000 people. ;)

I am predicting it to be a full house almost all 5 days. Due to Sachin's retirement announcement even before the series, the BCCI and the respective venues/association could make a killing with ticket sales. Just the fact that this will be the last 2 games where they see a Team India with Sachin Tendulkar in it, I am sure people will throng the venues for these 2 games.

Its potentially going to be very exciting to see a test match in India have big crowds. But it won't last. The moment Sachin retires, its going to dip even further from the current situation, probably further fueling test cricket's decline. Would Sachin's retirement hasten test cricket's death in India? Only time will tell.

You really think all 5 days of a test will be sold out in an Indian test series in India? When was the last time that happened?

In terms of Sachin, I'm a hug fan, definitely the greatest batsman I ever saw live and possibly the greatest ever but I'm not. The reason? Simply because it's about time, he has looked a mere shadow of his former self for too long and his century and reputation was like a noose around Team India's neck for too long. How long did India hold on to Sachin to get his 100th century, throughout which he was woefully out of touch.

I'm glad Sachin is retiring, not only will it allow new blood to flourish, we will no longer have to watch him scratch around for runs.

Wish him all the best in all his future endeavours, seriously BCCI, get this guy on your batting coaching staff ASAP!

Not that his opinion is the ultimate, but even MS Dhoni thinks the same thing (i.e. he expects housefull crowds to give Tendulkar a big farewell. I would not be surprised to see housefull crowds on almost all 5 days of a test match even though the team is WI and that its a test? This occasion is far bigger. Its Sachin Tendulkar's farewell series.

Yes, I also believe to have full crowd for this series considering it would be our last opportunity to witness him as a stage player no matter whether he gets out or hits out! :(

Firstly, test match attendances in major venues in India are as big as England. English grounds on an average have capacities half that of Indian venues. Just look at recent test matches against England, Australia and you will notice that crowds have been consistently around 15-20k on an average in the major venues and we had close to full houses during weekends in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore recently. Given that weekdays we generally get close to half full when India bat, the attendances are`nt as bad as people make it sound like. The bigger capacity stadia make it look as if we have aweful attendance compared to England. Sheer numbers would point to a different story.
