Statistics
Tests:-
297 wickets @ 32.39 (11 5WI BBI 7/74) in 97 tests
First Class:- 467 wickets @ 28.22 (16 5WI, BBI 7/24) in 141 matches

Ishant Sharma has improved manifold in his 2nd part of test career. He averages just 23 in his last 1/3 tests which is superb. Recently Cricinfo posted an article on the same. He further has chance to improve it going ahead.

Risked not picking him in the first round but can no longer afford to. My second pick will be :ban::ar:Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib-Al-Hasan-1.jpg

Bat Avg: 39.41
Bowl Avg: 31.13

This is a man who has adorned the top of ICC rankings for all-rounders for a long time and has also been among the top 25 batsmen and bowlers for most of his career. All of this was achieved was despite him playing for a very weak Bangladeshi side that he has helped improve immensely and often he has been the sole match-winner with either bat or ball and sometimes even both. Nowhere is this more clear than in a career defining performance versus Australia at home where he scored eighty-four runs in the first innings and also took two five wicket hauls to lead his country to a historic victory for the first time. He has very good numbers with the ball versus SENA teams in addition and having played in a team that has several performers who are fairly middling, Shakib will no doubt be comfortable being the star attraction in a similar lineup. He will be the fulcrum of the middle order scoring quickly down at six and will also contribute as the team's second spinner if all of my other picks work out.

@Akshay. has the next pick

A really solid pick as long as he doesn't bat at the dreaded number four position.

Bart King for me please

Ben Stokes is the successor to Ian Botham that England were looking for in the last 25 years. He scored a fighting century at the WACA in the 2012-13 Ashes, and despite a few hiccups, he has risen to be, arguably, England's best player, and if not the best all-rounder in the world, then certainly the most impactful. His heroics in the World Cup final in 2019, and the Headingley Ashes Test later that summer, will always be imprinted into the memory of cricket fans, certainly English ones.

Test stats - 4145 runs @ 36.68, 153 wickets @ 31.97

:ind: :bwl: Dilip Doshi
Test stats - 114 wickets @ 30.71 (6 5WI, best 6/102) in 33 matches
First-class stats - 898 wickets @ 26.58 (43 5WI, best 7/29) in 238 matches

Bowling VARP (spin) - +59.58%

An Indian spinner with a bowling average over 30 doesn't seem like someone who should be picked so soon, but Dilip Doshi's astonishing VARP places him as one of the top 10 spin bowlers in Test cricket history. But he played in surprisingly unhelpful conditions - no other spinner playing in Tests with Doshi was able to take 10 wickets at an average of less than 35 and even elites like Underwood (10 wickets @ 46.60 in 7 matches) and Qadir (11 wickets @ 46.18 in 6 matches) struggled in the conditions that Doshi made his own.

@CerealKiller

Doshi was going to be a part of the Bengal All Time XI that I was putting together... which reminds me that I should get back to work on it!

The fact that he made it into a side that heavily favours its seamers and faced off competition from several outstanding domestic players should speak volumes of his ability to perform on non friendly pitches. Had it not been for good old politics and some fierce competition from Bedi in his younger days, the bespectacled man would have played a lot more games for India.
