Who would make a better captain than Root? I have a sense that his batting is suffering since becoming captain. Is there any data to back that up or prove that bollox?

I was thinking about this myself. His average is still the best in the team as captain. I think part of the problem, is not just the responsibility of the captaincy but probably the worrying about the form of everyone else.

Not blessed with too many other options but I feel as though Stokes is more active and progressive in his ideas.

As a comparison with Root (52.8 / 42.48)

Kohli not captain 41.13 / as captain 62.7
Williamson 49.23 / 63.69
Smith 55.41 / 70.36
Telling numbers. There wont be many in the batting line up whos average has gone up in that time....further exasperating things.....1 plus 1 is fecked

The sooner Hazlewood comes in for Siddle the better.
Still confused as to how
A) Siddle got picked in the first test
B) Siddle made the squad

Stokes
If you didn't do as you were told, he would just sock you one

I was against Siddle being picked at first but he bowled beautifully but wasn't successful in the game. His batting along with Smudge also helped us post a decent score. He played decent strokes in his 44 and Pattinson slogged in the second innings in his 40 odd and he also bowled beautifully as well but Hazlewood must come in on a grassy pitch but I don't know for who.

We still shouldn't be relying on our tail to help us post decent scores all the time.
I don't think Siddle has that extra yard of pace anymore that would actually threaten.

I think we rely on Cummins and Pattinson to rattle England with pace and Siddle to move the ball both ways and trouble to top order. He beat the bat on numerous occasions as well.Regardless of that, Josh must come in.

Sir Richard Hadlee...Sir Ben Stokes. Absolutely love Tim's mind games :lol

Siddle was Australia’s most consistent bowler in both the innings. The man is a weapon with the Duke’s ball.

Numbers don’t tell the full story here either, Siddle was constantly challenging the edge and the fourth to fifth stump line. He gives you long spells of accuracy coupled with swing and is very useful in building pressure. Australia finally have picked bowlers for the right conditions and Siddle is an absolute must if he continues bowling highly economical spells like this while the other bowlers attack more.

Might sound harsh, but Patto will probably be the one to miss out for Hazlewood. It is a long series and Pattinson is a player with a history of questionable fitness record, which makes the decision a bit more easier.

Couldn't have said it any better

I think he was the best bowler of Australia once but he had fitness issues which affected his quality and was dropped for bowlers like Hazelwood, Cummins and Mitchell Johnson who grabbed their opportunities with both hands. I think so far he has faced similar fate what Ajit Agarkar did for India.
