Well in a few hours we will already have a glimpse of whether the choices being made are either genius or folly. Evidence suggests the latter. England have to stand up batting wise otherwise whoever you ask to bowl for you is basically having to do two jobs: get them out and compensate for the lack of runs.

I am genuinely hoping Roy gets a good score here. I think he and Denly will get these two tests regardless.

I wonder if this isn't a toss well lost? England's batting is under huge amounts of pressure and I might have wanted to have a pop at them straight away. England's bowling is I would suggest on a level with the Australians apart from the spin option. Thoughts?

Warner! Boooooom!!!!!!!![DOUBLEPOST=1567591625][/DOUBLEPOST]Good toss to lose!

Smith in: Game On!!! Come on![DOUBLEPOST=1567593559][/DOUBLEPOST]Aussie s two best batsmen together....crucial partnership this.

So Overton is in to offer control......Australia going at five an over and he hasnt bowled yet.....[DOUBLEPOST=1567596342][/DOUBLEPOST]Does anybody actually understand?

has anyone seen anything in Overton's first three or four overs making abundantly clear why he is prefered to Woakes? I keep banging on about this because I just don't see the reasoning at all.......

Good decision by Australia to drop Khwaja. Labuschagne is the perfect number 3 for them. HE looks in so much control and can really be Australia's next Ponting. With him at 3 and Smith at 4 that is a solid middle order. Good recovery this from the Aussies.

The only reason I can think,is that Woakes was predominantly a new ball bowler and now Archer has come into the side,Woakes has been pushed to first change and he isn't bowling as well?
If that's the case I would rather have seen Plunkett given a chance.

Lol BBC weather says it's raining all day in Manchester. What a season of cricket 50% rained off matches.

All this should have happened last summer

Overton over Curran is an absolutely pathetic selection. I just cannot get my head round it. It is also really short sighted and foolish to leave Woakes out. Roy now at 4? Just nonsense. Saw some Olly fellow bat some time ago and I think he has talent.

Overton’s taken a wicket in fairness
