Shaun Marsh averages 33 in first-class cricket, opposed to 2 cricketers who average over 50 in first-class & test cricket?

Pomersbach will be better.

How about Shaun Marsh for the same role ? The las has impressed me in the IPL. His strokes too have been just perfect. He has really played well. Deserves a palce in the ODIs.

Just no spot free to get him into our ODI side. Hes bound to get a game or two against WI to show what hes got but unless he scores cracking 100s in both those games he will have to wait his turn.

There was Mark Cosgrove too,but he seems to have disappeared after playing afew matches for Australia.

Cosgrove had the 2nd year syndrome, never got settled last season. He wasn't anywhere near consistent in the 100 making and thus got overtaken by Marsh. Hughes 2nd season should be interesting, hope he doesn't have the 2nd year syndrome.

Yeah, If he composes himself next season he could be a real prospect.

Marsh
Hayden
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Bracks
Tait or some other bowler

Looks mighty strong to me...

Looks more like an ODI lineup than our Test one. Marsh will have to prove himself as a FC opener before being considered for Test opener.

I love it, 1 decent twenty20 competition and he's being considered over Chris Rogers and Phil Jaques. Marsh isn't ready for test cricket, a FC average of 33 just isn't good enough at this stage. I'm with Ben aswell, Pomersbach will be better, been incredibly impressed with him, has some real talent, and has already been performing in Aussie FC cricket.

Are you serious? He should replace Jaques or Hayden in the test lineup because he's scoring runs for the 'inset ridiculous name of the team he plays for' in the IPL?

Using IPL form to decide test spots is a bit like watching the national volleyball championships to predict someone's final English exam mark. Even ODI's are a fair bit different to Twenty20.
Read this again for anyone who is honestly persisting.

The order for someone to open the batting in test cricket with Hayden is Jaques then Rogers then Katich and the maybe Marsh.

Once again, anyone who thinks that the IPL is a good form indicator for test selection is out of their minds. First class cricket is, and always will be, the best place to judge someone's potential in the test arena.

Australian dominance in the shorter version may be the case against the higher ranked squads. However come Test match cricket, we are still a force to be taken very seriously! A new side opens an exciting time!

As for Shaun Marsh. Great batsman with awesome power and run scoring ability. That is primarily why he has been included in the ODI squad and further more why he has been given an Australian contract. He is in as an ODI specialist batsman, not a Test match cricketer to represent The Baggy Green yet.
Phil Jaques and Simon Katich and the duo for the high spot!

T20 CANNOT , and I emphasise CANNOT be used to predict and analyse players to see how they'd perform at the top level, especially in Test match form. For ODI cricket, yes I fair degree of a players performance can be taken into consideration but that is where the line is drawn, especially regarding batting.

Give Marsh to India.

You've all ready got enough young gun batsmen! :p

Let Australia keep him eh?

God damnit my babys crying again. And i wonder why im up at 2 in the bloody morning on a work night.
