Thats a brilliant idea, I just don't think that we will be able to nail 48 teams though... 36 is a much more attainable total, if your system can be reworked to accomodate 36 teams, I'd say it's near on perfect.

I have come up with a system that is for 48 teams and can lasts 11 weeks.

This system means everyone will at least play 8 games and upto 11.

To start with teams are randomly assigned to one of nine groups (1-8) each consisting of six teams. Everyone then plays each other once. The top 2 teams go into the A cup, the middle 2 teams go into the B cup, and the bottom 2 go into the C cup (A being the most prestigous). This means sixteen teams in each cup.

Teams in each respective cup will then be placed into one of four groups (a-d) each consisting of four teams. Everyone plays each other once. From here the top 2 from each cup go into the quater finals and from there it is a knockout format.


Hows that?? Having 3 cups should hopefully encourage all teams to keep fighting to win games.

That is like the League Sevens with the three trophies. Now that I have read that I quite like the idea. The only problem is that some new teams could play against established and much better sides causing one-sided games. Other than that a great idea

Your right that is the only problem, but Im afraid I think it is unavoidable.

By the way it says "one of nine" groups at the start its meant to be "one of eight" groups. Just to clarify.


As for a 36 team version its pretty much the same. Teams start in one of six groups (1-6) each containing six teams. Everyone plays each other once. Top 2 go thru to a, middle 2 to b, and bottom 2 to c.

When we merge the current crop with the Shield teams, it is possible.

This format jdeus has suggested wont be implemented until that merge happens though. The Shield still has a while to go yet so a mini setup will be implemented until then.

jdeus, id like to work with you on this idea, its really caught my eye and it has the others too! For now though I shall draw up the plans for the next competition.

It was meantioned earlier about "rankings" could be a useful way to draw the groups maybe?? Not sure exactly how its going to work though, if it gets taken on board though. I was thinking about trying to level the playing field with rankings it should worked similar to the FIFA world rankings. Taking into account results, scores, venue and strenght of opponents. Shouldn't be too hard to work really. Have made one before so I could do it again if you guys want??

First! Yes baby! First!!!!

Jumped up to first and I am now leading by 1 in the net run rate. I thought it would be impossible, but it isn't!

I was only aiming for second this year. But I hope I can stay 1st and not go down back to 2nd. I pretty much have 2nd sewed up.

Yeah I think the old ranking will be used. Chez will do his upmost to recreate these I believe. They were quite complex so it might take him some time.

My rankings I am currently working on recreating will, as ever, take into account everything, the result, margin of victory, strength of opposition etc.

It will be including all matches starting with the Champions League. If the Shield teams want to be included then I can do that as well. Friendlies outside competitions between 2 PC teams will be included from friendlies played on Sunday 25th November and after. You will need to PM me the 2 teams, the result and margin of victory.

I have the spreadsheet sorted. Some pretty difficult problems to work out in terms of how to get what I wanted in, but with the use of some complicated forulae I think I have it. It should be easier for me to use now than it used to anyway.

I have posted the backgroud info in the thread I will use. It includes the levels on which teams are judged against each other and are used to award points based on opposition. If you have any problems with the levels then please say so
