I'm not even sure what to say about this thread.

I mean if you segregate sections, does that mean I can't post in the western forum?

I'll be honest, I've been on this forum for 6 years, yeah?

And it's just not the same, but we all know that. I think we all need to accept the fact that it will never be the same, because it's just impossible. The people that were here at the time are gone and have grown up - I think we either have to accept PC for what it is now, or leave ourselves.

My 1.5 cents.

Remove the following emoticons from the site:

And if there was a way, I'd love to see some sort of segregation to provide a section where only people over the age of 21 could participate. I'd call it the "Adult Forum".

Sounds good on paper but you have to consider people like KC, who are 14 but on the intelligence/maturity level of a 30 year old and then others who are older but mentally immature.

Are we talking an ad hoc porn section here? :spy

On a serious note; I don't see how it will work or the real point. Some of the best posters are under 18 let alone 21.

There are problems so you want to seperate the forum? That won't help things. As for english not being their first language, this is an english speaking forum, whether you like it or not.

For the record there are some great sub-continent members on here who speak great english and I don't have a problem with it. It's just annoying when members come in speaking half-assed english.

Shortest month ever?:laugh

Let him in. Special considerations can be made

A way of rewarding good members on the site has been an area of discussion long term for the staff, trying to determine the best way to do so. My experience with other forums that do a forum like that (not a age based, but selecting the 'top' members), is that the forum just becomes a place to rant about the bad members, not a constructive experience.

On the other hand a forum could provide a much needed middle ground between staff to staff discussion and consulting with members. Again member consultation on the issues about the site can go either way, this thread has been mostly an example of positive and constructive debate of an issue, I certainly thank jk for bringing things up in the way he did, however there's spots of that horrible member targeting that gets these threads too often shut down.

Something I will say is that so much of the things necessary for the forum start with people reviewing their own actions, my personal main issue with the Cricket 07 forum is summed up all in http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/cricket-07-downloads-forum/my-first-roster-70166.html - now ignoring anything wrong with the first post (originally posted in the main C07 forum), you then get a page and a half of people arguing about it. Even worse is the pages of argument over whether something is spam or not. The debate and discussion after someone in their view breaks a rule or does something wrong in that forum is far-far worse than the problems with the initial post.

Having had a few pints this thread is cracking me up :p

It's happened to the best of us, and ironically two of the people most hated by the Indians, are the two that went insane moderating the downloads forum. Me & Tom.

It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to moderate that part of the forum, almost a post every 5 sec, how the heck you ll go on moderating it? Ask Tom the experience he had ;)

HA, that forum would drive Gandhi to bloody distraction some of the people in there are so stupid, you need to tell them things about 20 times before they get the hint.

Of course the solution is simple, just make me staff again and I'll ban everyone who I can't understand. It worked last time :p :laugh

EDIT - LOL, loving the fact I'm already getting the anynomous neg reps already in this thread, sums some of the members up perfectly. Balls the size of peas...

Cheers Mark, thought I'd be your example :( :crying:crying:crying:crying:crying:crying

I thought OZ said 18 for some reason, you would be one of many examples why a concrete rule will never work.

This thread has been a good pressure valve for the forum, like a massive therapy session.

why should we?

you don't see the English asking for KP thread or the Aussie for a Punter thread.

Perhaps the Sachin fans should keep their dicks in their pants instead.

and I agree with Karthik, the C07 forum should be deloused, disinfected and deleted. Anyone who posts there regularly should be banned

You are right Mark, the request thread is spammed and in the a thread and in nearly every page, I see Haarithan/Bargav/Good posting. That is why these new members have higher post counts than many old people.

I've PM'd you, I can keep my half of the "Keep it off the forums" message, would be nice for you to do the same.

I dealt with a couple of the members insulting Bevab on his VM wall. I normally wouldn't mention it in public, but I'll make it an exception. I'll re-iterate my point again, this is to all, is it too much to ask to be civil? Particularly when some are moaning about that very thing. I know it's easy to let emotions get the better of you, just think before hitting submit.

Thank you so much Sureshot, you're a nice global moderator.

And 12 years don't know much of the world, so its our responsibility to guide them.
But why creating a separate forum, it'll divide PC itself.

hmmm....i just tried downloading a random patch from the C07 downloads forum and it wanted me to login / register. may be disabling this 'forceful' registration might ease things out a bit ?

I don't know if it's in this thread or another one, but I read about someone claiming that quality of discussion in the Cricket Chat section has fallen.

It's fine if you ask me. Apart from those who claim that the Pakistani's were framed for match-fixing, the discussion has been pretty good. India/Aus, Bang/NZ (till Irrotev went psycho), and the threads in General Chat is good too. AP vs. Ollie in the Cricket Queries thread was awful, but that's one incident.

And removing forced registration to download would work too. People can come to use the patches but don't have to become a part of the community unless they want to.

Wow! I have finally read all of this.
AP has made all the SC members look like retards.

That was probably me.

I stick to my theory that the quality of discussion on Cricket Chat has deteriorated. First of all, it appears that no one seems to be forming arguments any more, just posting 2-3 sentences on their opinion. While this is okay in some cases, it pretty much rules out any intelligent discussion on topics.

The reason for this is because it's hard to have intelligent discourse on an article from a media outlet. Articles are usually not designed to spur discussion but to communicate news. A proper discussion needs a good seeding question and a statement that can be argued one way or another.

There's a huge problem that on the first page of threads on the CD forum, a majority are simply news articles that have been posted. I usually go to Cricinfo first to get a news article--I don't need it reposted on PC with little to no discussion.

The only real legitimate threads that thread-starters have put some thought into on the front page are Mark's Amla thread, War's Hauritz thread, and, as sad as it is to say this, AARRONN's "mission to save test cricket" (it hurts my fingers just to type his username out!). Even though I don't agree with some of the suggestions he made, he made an effort to present his own opinion, not just regurgitate an article or copy a headline.

Anyways, /rant.
