Tournment Ends

Wow what a win! at first when the series was declared i almost decided to give it a full miss but then i came to know that Zaheer is back with Sree and just yesterday i read it will be our 100th win!

Congratulations Team India the mountain of runs in the 1st innings did helped us building pressure. we scored at a RR of 5+ that too in test something whihc other test playing nations may never achiever (maybe)

Rahul Dravid & VVS :clap

Gautam Gambhir & UV :clap

Dhoni & Viru Sehwag :clap

Zaheer, S Sreesanth & Bhajji :clap

Sachin Tendulkar :hpraise

God, I hate when people do that. Sachin scored 40 runs :doh. Just goes to show how Dravid will always remain second behind Tendulkar. Unjustly so, might I add...

As far as i see the bold part, i applauded for Dravid first.

We cant compare this two, equally great at his own spot.

Good win from India. In the past we've always had a record of losing one immediately after winning one. Not under Dhoni, I guess, since we always ended up winning the last game of the series after the first few were draws. :p

hope the indians don't produce another flat pitch to keep the series safe.

though they lose no.1 ranking if they do that I think. they have to win 2-0 to cement it.

I would like sri lanka to win the last one but I have no idea why their batting is looking so inept on pitches that clearly suit them.

God win India. Who knows, we might see Badrinath playing in the next test beacuse of Gambhir's absence. But we'll probably opt for the specialist opener in Murali Vijay.

WTF is that all about, missing a test for your sisters wedding?

fair enough if someone died or your kid was being born but a wedding has to be the worst reason ever.

Indians are obsessed with weddings, plus their weddings are longer than Test Matches.

It's his sisters wedding? What's wrong with that? He has got a life you know.

As Hmarka said in this thread before, you can play so many test matches for India but wedding of your sister comes only once (in India, its only one wedding even though a few are moving towards the Western culture of divorces).

If you say this, I can say this also "why the heck does a player have to leave when a baby is about to be born". Anyways after a series is over, he is going to go back home to be with his kid. He has all the days in his life to be with the kid. And his wife must be having other people near her to give her encouragement, moral support, etc. So its not like "he is going to see the kid only when its born". More than a kid's birth, sister or family person's wedding is more important. Also, when you work at an office, you would take leave if you have some family events taking place. The same thing, Gambhir has done. Dont bring the "patriotism" thing because Gambhir plays for BCCI XI, not Indian XI (although the media and fans call it "India XI").

Even if the wedding is for one day, if its during the test, he has to miss the whole test. And yes in India, weddings are big because its a time to celebrate (you get really less time to celebrate life and weddings are great time to do that). We have it for 3-4 days.

Its going to be Murali Vijay. Badri has no chance. It will be "an opener for an opener" and thats how it should be. Sad that its Gambhir and not some middle order guy (so that Badri could sneak in).

Congratulations to Team India for winning hteir 100th Test, and also reaching at No 1 Test ranking spot....

Gautam Gambhir has turned his back on India.
May be his dad should have altered the wedding date.
I hate you Gautam Gambhir.
You are a damn traitor.

I guarantee you that if Gambhir had 50 runs in his last 6 tests or something like that he'd be skipping the wedding. Nothing like a secure place in the side to bring about the importance of family commitments.

SL don't have the depth in the batting to compete with the likes of India especially away. Very long tail and Paranavitana/Mathews aren't exactly proven at this stage. The problems have been hidden lately by playing on some really flat tracks against weaker attacks but it shows up in games like these. I know Prasanna is a good keeper and is not horrible with the bat but the balance of the side is much better with an extra batsman and Sanga/Dilshan keeping. If they had a little more depth in the top 6 or a better 8/9 they could afford the luxury of giving up a little batting but not in this team at the moment.

Leaving Kulasekara out of the side is just ridiculous unless he picked up an injury, I know he doesn't have pace and all but he gets some swing which the first two tests have shown is the only thing taking wickets in this series, he would add to the lower order as well. Welegedera has bowled pretty well and hasn't had a lot of luck, he could easily have 3 or 4 more wickets so far and should be kept around. Really, the writing on the wall is that murali should be dropped, but it would take at least five more bad games to reach that point with a career like that and so it will probably be Mendis instead who hasn't really been effective in several matches now. Glad that Herath picked up the most worthless 5 wicket haul in the history of tests to probably keep his place, he's a really classical bowler to watch.

Indians are more 'family oriented'. Skipping a Test for a wedding, therefore does not amount to any sort of treacherous activity.

Its not as if he has 'fixed' a match or so. Calling him a traitor is completely un-warranted for at this time. Maybe ,you ought to be take back your words.

Yeah maybe... But thats not the case right now! Gambhir is secure of his place in the team and so he goes to attend the wedding of his sister,. Whats wrong in that? Had he been in the situation you mentioned and skipped the wedding, it would not have been wrong too. Its just a profession, guys.
