Virender Shewag

I dont believe Karthik should be opening for India in the tests in Australia. You got to give thought to the opposition and the importance of the situation when the two got those runs. In Australia, opening with Karthik would be a big risk especially now when he is not in good form (he is going through a bad time in the ODI's which would surely affect his confidence).

I would go with Sehwag for one of the openers. And may be go with Chopra or Gambhir. I am also not pleased with Jaffer's erratic ways. he is not your solid opener, and is technically iffy. Chopra is the ideal foil for Sehwag. He can bottle one end up allowing Sehwag to free his arms at the other end. They proved lethal in the last tour of Australia and I have every reason to believe they can do it again.

In case you didn't know, Karthik just hit a superb century in the final on the challenger series. He was good throughout the whole series and it's safe to say I think that he's on form.

If you claim that Karthik is out of form and shouldn't be played then what do you go on, when you say Sehwag deserves a shot? He hasn't been groundbreaking or anything recently.

We are not saying that Karthik does not deserve to be in Team India. What we are hinting at is-Karthik should not open in Australia.

Personally, I think Gautam Gambhir's role will play heavily on India's fortunes in Australia, however many selections he gets and whatever his position. He just seems to have the right qualities to have a good tour.

Raina scored a double ton.Manoj tewari is in good form too.

Gambhir is a good player to be given a go but not Sehwag for the tests in Australia since he's been in terrible form for a long time and you won't want him at the top of the order out of form against the best side in the world, who have the likes of Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson who have the pace to disturb him with short deliveries.
A big no no for Sehwag.

He has faced many a better attacks and destroyed them. His test form has been good and he enjoys bounce as he does not get l.b.w and short ball can be leaved on true bounce pitches.

I think he will be our no 3 in future he has the technique ,talent and temperament to be a top class batsman.

And Sehwag has been playing a lot of tests recently, hasn't he. I think you need to stop looking at Sehwag's ODI form and try him out in Tests again. He wasn't playing all that poorly when he got dropped--many players have had worse seasons and are still hanging around the team. I'm all for pushing him out of the ODI team, but to claim that he is useless in Test matches is ridiculous.

He's probably been the biggest Indian test batsmen over the last half a decade in terms of scoring big innings, perhaps second only to Dravid. Don't forget that last time he went to Australia, the bounce did not fetter him too much as he still racked up some big scores.

Yup, Raina and Tiwary both scored double tons for their respective state teams in their opening games. But neither are in direct competition with Sehwag for Test opener, as they are both middle order players.

Tiwary and Raina-agreed that they have scored double tons.
If you are to select any one,it should be Tiwary, for the simple reason that he has shown the same form last season too.

Secondly,about Sehwag.
The manner in which he has destroyed a few attacks, well i just dont have the adjectives to describe it.
He is a great asset to the Team in Tests.
He can hit hard and especially in problematic situations.
Imagine India at 85/4 and Sehwag blasts a sudden 70.
That would destroy the bowlers confidence.

sehwag shud be given a chance to play test cricket..he has good average in test cricket...he shud replace jaffer...dinesh karthik seem to be good as opener...

dont bring gautam gambhir..he isnt good at this level..

I would rather not experiment the youngsters at the Test level for some tough series like Australia and Pakistan.
Even though VVS scored a duck,I think the Indians need to stick to VVS for their middle-order and not try out youngsters.

Jaffer and Karthik have done well for India opening the batting for India in the tests against England where the ball moves around with the new ball.
Their is no need for Sehwag really. If its not broken, don't fix it.

He just hit a hundred!
What did Sehwag to to deserve it?
