West Indies in Australia

For Katich it could work. But Clarke is meant to be the future of Aus cricket and the selectors believe he is the next number 4. Jury still out on that, but I would give him time and see what happens with Clarke at 4.

true. the thing that gets me is that we will beet the windies, so we should give it a go. and if it works, then we know we have a good number 4 and 5. look at how well katich did at no. 3 in India. he is definetly a top order batsmen.

Definitely a top order, just a question of can he bat at 4. I don't think he has batted there much.

Guess the difference is age and Clarke is meant to be a 4. Anyway the selectors won't be promoting Katich unless its for a opener. Maybe put Watson at 5 as Katich did quite well at 6 before.

yeah, thats an idea, and watto gets to get a little more time in the middle aswell. that way. remember that innings katich played against NZ in the first test over therem that was a beauty, too bad i was at school.

nah clarke is too much of a one in a ten match player he has a amazing game one in ten and a shocking in the other 9. he defintly shouldnt bat at 4, watson should be giving a shot as the man kerry of keefe thinks also, hayden, langer, ponting, watson ,katich ,clarke , gilly, warney, lee, pidgeon, macgilla if thats with the current time but if i had my way it would be hodge for katich and hussey for katich, i donno katich is a amazing ODI player because he plays like test but he cant seem to get it right in tests, lately anyways.

Katich has produced before. Who could forget his knock with Steve Waugh that saved Waugh from going out a loser. He has shown he has what it takes, probably just hard for him to adjust to where he is meant to be batting.

Windies lack in their bowling. Collymore is good but not a destroyer of teams, Lawson and Edwards are quick but inconsistent and the bright spark Bravo looked very good when he played against England a few years ago so hopefully he will show what he is made of against the best.

For me the batting is where Windies will win games (if any) on the tour. Gayle, Lara, Sarwan and Chanderpaul are all capable of getting big scores and on their day are lethal so hopefully they will be firering on all cylinders to make the series tight or else the Aussies are just going to steam roll them.

Who was the bowler that caused Aus a whole heap of trouble in that washed out ODI game on WI previous tour here?

I think it was Ian Bradshaw, but im not sure, ill check but he doesnt get into the test team for some reason despite being probably WI best ODI bowler.

EDIT: It was Pedro Collins he took 3 for 8 from 4 overs

Yea thats the one, he was one dangerous left hand bowler when he gets it right. Also he did his feat at the Gabba. What happened to him, injuried or dropped?

The windies always seem to play well against the aussies, mostly in the caribean. They did beat them by scoring 418 runs in the last innings of a test

They also lost the first 3 matches in that series remember.
1st by 9 wickets
2nd by 118 runs
3rd by 9 wickets.

As for the spinner debate, if you look at the teams who have been strong lately they all have very good spinners. They may not have multiple spinners like aus and india but they do have good spinners. While Giles isnt a great spinner he does his job well in the lineup. England may be the only case of not having a top quality spinner.

However i think that if you look back at the sides who have been succesful in recent years, they have depended quite a bit on having a very good/great spinner. I feel the west indies have always had a strong batting lineup but counting on players like jimmy adams and now chris gayle doesnt work day in day out against the top teams
