This is First 3 ODI and it also seems Yuvraj is not well now Man this is so confusing

Sehwag might be rested for the last two ODI's to facilitate his trip to Australia. The 3rd ODI ends December 5th, and the team is leaving December 6th (as you said here). So I think Sehwag will join the team as scheduled

But I am perplexed as to WHY SEHWAG??? When Gautam Gambhir is fit and playing in the team, why give captaincy to Sehwag? Gambhir has shown good captaincy credentials (he captained India to a series win against NZ in ODI's, he has been a sharp captain for KKR, etc). Sehwag has never relished captaincy and in fact he himself gave it to Gambhir in one of those IPL seasons only for Gambhir to move to KKR and Sehwag taking it back.

who said you sehwag is not good captain ? he took Delhi to semi-final in first season only.
In 2007 due to sehwag poor batting form, Dhoni got captaincy otherwise it would have been Sehwag.

Gambhir might be rested in one of those ODI's also to give chance to Rahane, so that could be the reason also.

yuvraj is out due to fitness problem..
i expect this series to be close as WI is far better ODI side than Eng and they play spin better than Eng.

So My prediction: India will be winning 4-1 or 3-2.

Sehwag is not a good captain. He didnt take Delhi to the IPL final. Even when he captained India, his captaincy, the decisions he made regarding field placings and all were very ordinary. And most of all just like Tendulkar, his batting felt affected by his captaincy. And he is not a long term option at all. Why do you think he gave up captaincy at one period to Gambhir? Looks like someone behind him is trying to tell him that giving up captaincy is not good for your CV, and so he is taking more shots at captaincy these days.

Agreed. Just watched highlights of Ashwin's hundred. Such beautiful shots, and such controlled batting. He just showed why he was an opener for Tamil Nadu at the domestic level when he started off. Not putting burden on him, but he can be a very useful lower order bat like Kumble or Bhajji.

Agree with your XI except Vinay Kumar. Lets have more speed these days. Aaron for Vinay.

neither Gambhir has taken his side to Final. Kolkata has so many big player and anything less than semi-final for them is very poor.

For two consecutive season Sehwag took Delhi to Semi-final and they lost it but they top the group table. (2009). He gave up captaincy of delhi in 3rd season because Delhi lost semis 2 time, so Delhi Owner wanted to test someone else.
When Gambhir became the captain of Delhi in 2010, they didn't even reach the semis.

In new format of IPL u get 2 chances for qualifying Final but that time it was only one.


Gambhir is of 30 years same as Dhoni. So i don't think Gambhir is ever going to become permanent Captain of India.

Kohli or Raina or Rohit are future Indian captain.


I think Captaincy will help Sehwag to bat longer. He will take more responsibility and if he bats long we are not going to lose. i think this is first time he got Chance to Captain in full series.


And i think india will go Aus After 10 Dec as there is BCCI Annual Awards on 10 Dec and Dravid has been Chosen Best Batsman of the year for india.

Sehwag, who had stepped down from the role after the World Cup and has previously cited that he has no inclination at all in leading the side,should not have been given it.

Secondly- Why on earth rest Sachin Tendulkar ? I need to know the logic behind this decision. Don;t you need him match fit for Australia? He has not even played a single ODI since the World Cup and if this continues, I think he ought to retire from the ODIs and concentrate solely on Tests. Else, this will create unnecessary selection issues for all.

Agreed that Gambhir is 30 years old,but we people tend to forget the white-wash that we handed the Kiwis in 2010. Also, his skills look good. If you are to go by, then think of SRL who have Dilshan who is 35 and is leading them as of now.

Kohli would be my choice for the Future Indian Captain's post. But,he does seem to be a bit indisciplined and behaves a lot like Yuvraj. For him to take on the mantle of an ODI captain is ideal,but for Tests, he ought to be groomed by a senior who is capable of doing so. Just like Kumble did for MSD.

I think Sachin will play only the most important of ODI's (for example, he most likely will play in the CB series in Australia). Thats why he hasnt announced retirement. He has reached a stage where he can pick and choose games he wants to play.

Agreed,but then it kinda disrupts the team's settings. If he isn't keen on playing 2015, I think he ought to make way,so that youngsters can cement themselves and those shoes are going to leave a huge void in the team.

well mate i didn't started discussion on sehwag captaincy. it was started by someone else .(check previous post in this page)

Even bangladesh clean sweep NZ, so for India it was just a formality.

i am supporting sehwag just because he has been Vice Captain of india from 1-2 years. If original captain is not playing then Leadership goes to Vice Captain. Gambhir Got captaincy Against NZ as sehwag was not playing.

SL don't have any other option then Dilshan. Sangakkara, Mahela all have left Captaincy. Mathews is still young and inexperienced so they can't make him now.

I completely agree with you that either Sachin should play ODI series if he is fit or get retire. I am sure he will play CB series or Asia Cup as IPL is just after it.

It's sad that Sachin didnt made his 100th Century i was waiting for it to happen, well unfortunately he miss out, best of luck to him in Australia.

This Game is still alive. West Indies 189 Run lead. If they make about 300 - 350 lead they should declare and let India Chase those Run would be fun to watch and Maybe Sachin can try for 100 again

Because he is not a middle or lower order batsman. He is only good at opening. Gambhir has shown that he is very comfortable batting at no 3. He used to do it when Sachin and Sehwag were opening. He also batted at no 3 when Rahane and Parthiv open the innings against England.

Agree with your XI except Vinay Kumar. Lets have more speed these days. Aaron for Vinay.

I would love to see both Umesh and Varun play but trust me, it will be Vinay Kumar in final 11.
