AUSSIES MAKE SOLID START

Adam Gilchrist seems to be warming to the task of opening tests by putting on a solid opening partnership with Justin Langer. The pair are batting well together and seem to be having no trouble in chasing down the target of 76.

A.Gilchrist 21*
J.Langer 18*
AUS: 0/40

J.Lawson 0/19 (6)
T.Best 0/20 (6)

LANGER EDGES

Justin Langer has become the first victim of the Windies desperate last attempt for a draw. Langer was drawn back into playing a cut shot but got a nick straight to the keeper Ramdin for 34. Langer had just hit 2 fours in a row so he will be disappointed to be out. Langer still remains the leading run scorer for the series despite only scoring 47 and 34 this test match.

A.Gilchrist 25*

AUSTRALIA WIN COMFORTABLY

The Aussies have won the test series by crushing the Windies at Hobart today. Adam Gilchrist and Mike Hussey had no problems in getting the 16 more runs required for victory as Hussey finished 6* and Gilchrist 35*. The Windies now have nothing to loose going into the next game at Adelaide...

considering the Windies team in question, I should say it has been a rather good effort from them to make a match out of it. Good win to Punter and his boys.

Ratings (winning side)
J.Langer (60%) Played well for his runs but in the first innings got a start and couldn't carry on. Will be dissapointed with his efforts batting but fielded well.

M.Hayden (40%) Hasn't had the best of a test series. Batted only once and scored modestly. Did good in the field but will be anxious to know if the arm injury is going to keep him out of the 5th test.

R.Ponting (60%) Got a start like so many others but failed to capitalize. Has again captained well and took many catches for the match in slip and the covers. His 47 was classy and agressive but got out chasing a bad ball.

D.Martyn (55%) Had a quiet game, got a start like Langer and Ponting but again got out just before the 50 mark. Played well, especially off his legs and scored a majority of runs on the leg side. Was bowled by a brilliant delivery.

M.Hussey (95%) Had a brilliant game, Was one of the only people to attack the bowlers on a seaming wicket and made the bowlers pay for wide deliveries. Made a sparkling century including a huge 6 over cover. Can be happy with his efforts in the field as well, taking an important catch to remove Lara.

A.Gilchrist (60%) Hasn't really had much of a go in this series with the bat and it continued in Hobart. Batted for a short while in the first inning, hitting one solid 4 before being called in for the declaration. Opened the batting for Matty Hayden and played well but was only chasing a small total. Kept well with 3 catches and a stumping that was almost out.

S.Watson (30%) Didn't have much of a bowl or a bat, Gave a good supporting innings to Hussey but should be surprised if he is re-called for Adelaide.

S.Warne (70%) Bowled brillianly on a spinners pitch and took wickets when the Aussies needed them. Got Lara in the second which sparked the collapse. Didn't bat.

B.Lee (85%) Had arguably his best game, ripping through the lower order in the first innings, then the top and lowers orders in the second. Again bowled with agression but this time was rewarded with wickets. Interestingly could be facing a fine after his antics when he got Hinds caught at slip by Ponting.

N.Bracken (25%) Was given a decent go with the ball but couldn't breakthrough like his fellow paceman could. Got one wicket which was the last batsmen. Had a dissapointing game and like Shane Watson will be surprised if he is re-called.

G.McGrath (75%) Did what everyone expects of him, took wickets. Although he had a slow start he made up for it in the second innings, taking four wickets. Moved the ball off the deck paricularly well and deserved the wickets he got.

MOM: M.Hussey :happy

The Pitch

This Adelaide pitch is flat and true. It will provide help for both seamers and spinners during the course of the match. It doesn't matter whether you bat or bowl first as neither will yield an advantage.

The Toss: Won by Chanderpaul

Windies will bat first

GAYLE REACHES 50

Chris Gayle has finally overcome his form worries by scoring a good half century off 90 balls. Gayle has played shots particularly well over the infield and has scored at a nice pace for test match. The Aussies desperately need a breakthrough to even the odds.

LEE TRAPS HINDS
The very next ball from Gayles half century Lee struck and claimed the first Aussie wicket. Brett bowled an inswinger which Hinds tried to drive but was struck on his pad before his bat could reach it. The umpires finger went up and the Aussies started celebrating. Hinds wasn't happy with the desicion and muttered a few dark words before walking off. Lee made his mood worse by pointing out which way the dressing room was on his way past Hinds.

LARA GOES CHEAPLY

Glen McGrath has struck and removed Lara for a lean 5 runs. McGrath bowled a series of outswingers on off stump then bowled an inswinger on middle which he failed to pick. With Lara gone the Windies need a big partnership from one of the next 3 batsmen with Gayle...

GAYLE DEPARTS

The man who held the Windie innings together has finally fallen. Chris Gayle was hitting well over the infield and in particular over the covers. Ricky Ponting set a trap for the opener and pushed Symonds at cover back further. The shot came and Symonds took a pearler to end his innings just short of a century.

MCGRATH STRIKES AGAIN

Glenn McGrath has again put a halt on the Windie advance by claiming the captian Shiv Chanderpaul. McGrath drew Shiv into a cover drive with an outswinger that got a faint nick and was taken safely by Gilchrist. McGrath now has two vital wickets as the Windies look to rebuild their inning after loosing quick wickets.

D.Smith 2*
WIN: 4/141

G.McGrath 2/34 (22)
