Who can replace him ?? Jaques is still injured. Don't think Kilinger can take his spot.

Jaques isn't injured, he's 20* at the moment v Tasmania. Hughes by the way is already out for 12, bowled. Shaun Marsh another dark horse for a spot is out already today too v Victoria, for 1.

As for McDonald, I'm not sure I'd like to see a top 6 with both Watson AND McDonald. The team would then have too much bowling depth, and surely there are better pure batsmen to be picked than McDonald.

And Clint McKay has a couple of wickets for Vics already too. I'd like to see him start to replace Stuart Clark in the Aussie squad. We need to start forming the 2013 revenge squad, and Stuart Clark is not gonna make it that far.

That's why Hussey, Katich, Ponting and Lee also need to be phased out within the next couple of years at the latest IMHO. Ponting and Lee after the 2011 Ashes and World Cup probably (although Ricky's talking about 2013 ), Hussey and Katich whenever they lose form. Then we will hopefully be able to form a hardened, young but experienced crew ready for a tour of India, the 'ol 3 Test home/away with the Saffers and the Ashes tour of 2013. That's a damn tough stretch and we need to be ready for it, not with old hangers on, like the Gillespie/Kasper farce of 2005.

that's a good point about too many bowlers, sifter, too many cooks spoil the broth as they say and changing too often would likely have adverse effect.

clint and mcdonald should be used in the one day team more though. australia play the most cricket of anyone and I'd like (or not like because i'm not a great aussie fan and would love to see the windies win here :P) them have an almost completely different ODI team barring 4 or 5 members (2 best batsmen, strike bowler, all-rounder) and even they should rotate a bit.

Lee should only play ODIs, i simply wouldn't trust him in tests now. Clint, white, mcdonald, paine are all good one day players that aren't needed in the test squad right now. pretty sure marsh or warner can step in. I think they need to stick with hauritz in just tests, playing both can mess up a spinner unless he's really, really good.

henriques should go off with rashid and play in the sand until they're actually ready for internationals.

Hughes hasn't set the world on fire so far in his 2 Shield knocks. Bit like last season where he took a while to get going. This time round it could cost him a spot with Jaques in pretty good form.

McKay certainly looks the goods, keeps getting wickets and has shown hes got the temperament. But for mind we will be taking a 13 man squad so Bollinger or Clark will be the backup bowlers.

There's some talk as to whether Krejza warrants a return. The buzz phrase is "he has worked on his game" and he does seem to be bowling efficiently, with a focus on changes of pace, but I doubt it's enough to leap into the squad. Perhaps he will come into contention at Sydney, but two offies sounds distinctly unstrayan. Doth McGain dare rear his head?

Right this moment, I wouldn't be touching Warner for any format. He's reached a point where he really needs to work on his game and bring it all together. He's also developed that thing that Cook does where he tries to go back to a half volley and muddles up an easy cover drive.

Jaques out for 66. I think I would pick him, he's obviously a player of exceptional quality and experience. With that, it's just a question of form and fitness. Going off what he looked like in the one dayer on Sunday and today's score, he appears to be quite ready. In contrast, though it won't happen, Clarke is the one I'd be cautious with. It's not necessary to pick him if he's not looking 100% for the 1st Test. If any other batsmen need to be mentioned, dare I say Brad Hodge? Brad Hodge. Brad Hodge? Brad Hodge!

McKay in his current shape does offer some things that might be of benefit to the Test side and I definitely agree that with Clark offering as much pace as McDonald, the next of kin has to step up. He's a first class specialist if anything and he's exactly the sort of bowler that Australia traditionally use to good effect on home soil. However, if Bollinger is in the mix, then I'd probably chose him over McKay as the token tall man, but McKay is surely written on someone's notepad if things go awry.

A bigger question might be whether Hilfenhaus remains a good idea. The Gabba is a good ground for him, but on flatter, drier tracks, I'm not certain that the Kookaburra is his weapon of choice. Fortunately, this summer's opponents are not entirely among the most obdurate in the world, but it may yet be a test for him to produce genuine wicket-taking deliveries. Hopefully the attack is not one that is simply in desperate need of an economical bowler.

Gayle: "Don't be surprised if Australia is beaten"

Why should I be? :facepalm

probably because like the last time England were in the Caribbean nobody is giving the boys a chance at all.
It is a big difference touring a country and beating them but this is still a improved team.

Just smashed 92 off 79 balls in 2nd 11 against WA!

There are question marks but there is only one way to find out if he has what it takes on the flatter pitches.

The sky if falling! I thought you hated Warner?

That's a massive blow to the Windies if Gayle isn't playing. I know he's very close with his mother so I hope she's alright.

Gayle returns home

Hopefully Gayle's mother gets better and he can return for this series.

huge blow for the team if he isn't able to play the 1st test. That means the WI would possibly go into the 1st test with 2 inexperienced openers.

But family comes first and Gayle did the right thing.

Dwayne Bravo ins 20/20 mode here, strike rate at 150.
