Seriously this Haddin blaming thing is getting out of line.
How many times did Benn try to stir up trouble in this series?
Standing infront of the batsmen's crease, always trying to talk to the batsmen in between overs, and many others.

You guys are so biased.

I wish they'd just let us listen to the stumps mics all the time
They did this in Bangladesh when Australia were there last, but it led a sort of peculiar protest. Some of the things heard over the stump microphones said by Adam Gilchrist:

"One for the boys at Travelex, now! Come on!"
"Travelex Foreign Exchange, boys!"
"Plenty of energy from a Milo Energy Bar!"
"Keep it well oiled with Castrol, boys. Come on!"

The broadcasters were quick to solve the problem when their air time was being used for free advertising.

Lol. But I'm sure these are the cleaner ones :p

Ponting said this series was about getting the team higher up in the rankings.

The only problem is we haven't climbed any rating points because WI are ranked so low. :doh

LOL. That's bloody ridiculous!

I remember seeing video of that. Really clever stuff from Gilly and it got those mics turned off quick smart :laugh

@ Sifter... About the Haddin thing, the provocateur shouldn't be getting away, imo. Had he not stupidly pointed his bat at Benn, this matter wouldn't have gone as far as it did. Benn had every right to feel angry and look, we all know that players from the Windies except maybe Fidel, are generally quiet and like to concentrate on the game. Cussing pushes them off the edge and that is exactly what Haddin did.

He had no business getting involved in this tiff in the first place. Johnson & Benn could have solved it. But Haddin seems to have a verbal history so he was really just being himself. I feel sad for Benn and I agree with Dare that he didn't plead guilty. You don't plead guilty when you are not (entirely) at fault.

As I see it, there are maybe 3 theories for Haddin's behaviour:
1) He wanted to get some verbal at Benn because Benn had annoyed the Aussies all series
2) Haddin was trying to step in protect Johnson. I'm not really sure why Mitch needs protection. Is he fragile mentally? Maybe, but Haddin decided to tell Benn to go back and bowl before Benn could confront Mitch about the first incident.
3) He genuinely did want to get on with the game and thought that by telling Benn to get on with it and not take the original incident further.

Now how can the match referee decide which motive was Haddin's true one? Yes Haddin made a gesture with his bat, but are we going to start suspending players for that? Seems a tad harsh. I think the fine was the right call. Getting 2 ODIs for Benn was maybe a bit harsh, but he was the guy who went on with it the most as I see it. I can see why the Windies are a little miffed, but thems the ways it goes sometimes.

Johnson pushed Benn away to try to defuse the situation. That's what you do when it looks like two people are about to start a fight, you push them away from each other.

ahahaha that's a nice way to put a spin on i but he didn't push him away for that reason. In cricket you don't push people to defuse the situation you talk to the guy. If it was NFL or Hockey I would understand your claim but in cricket you dont, especially not someone who's not even on your team.

Talking to someone or at someone cant even compare to pointing the bat at someone and trying to look all aggressive and tough.

Hmm. Agreed with Point 1. Actually the thing which this present Australian team miserbaly fails is with the "mental disintegration" which Steve Waugh introduced as a regular aspect of the game. Steve used it very shrewdly and got results without really crossing the line much. Ricky, especially after Australia's best cricketers of this era retired, has resorted to putting up a fake attitude of being rough and tough and they act as if they're intimidating, which is as childish as childish can be. It doesn't work, it creates rifts and this "win at all costs" attitude cozes a lot of complications. Incidents in the past have indicated at this trend which Ricky sadly fails to learn from and comments like "I am embarrassed that 4 of my players had to face the Match Referee" mean little when we know that in the next game, these 4 and the other guys will be back to business as usual.

These days, there is no concept of the game being gentlemanly any more. Everyone just wants to needle one another and then say, "I'm not proud of the incident", only to contradict himself in the near future.

Haddin is an absolute muppet. He is a drop in the ocean as compared to say an Adam Gilchrist, a Shiv Chanderpaul, a Sachin Tendulkar and a VVS Laxman, who despite years of playing the game don't have a single incident of misconduct against themselves. These greats never utter a word or try to act in a derogatory manner as this guy, who thinks of himself as some legend of cricket. Which is pretty much the reason why he "might" be respected for his game, but I'm sure very few people respect the way he plays it.

This new bunch of cricketers know no boundaries and its really sad to see the game of cricket being brought into disrepute again and again and again.

If getting verbal is so important to win a game, are people like Adam and Sachin a bunch of retards to keep quiet and get on with the game?

Someone needs to explain the younger lot - Talking won't win you games. Batting, Bowling and Fielding will.

And I request everyone to go through this amazing opinion of Anil Kumble on the subject, who is just as "aggressive" as these guys, but chooses to show it with the ball in hand - Instigators not punished enough - Anil Kumble | India Cricket News | Cricinfo.com

I can see your point about talking to resolve the issue, but the problem is that Benn had been talking for the WHOLE OVER, so they obviously didn't see him as a guy that could be reasoned with. Haddin pointing his bat at him got him upset sure, but Benn just couldn't let it go despite Gayle and Bowden standing next to him - hopefully telling him to shut up the whole time. But no, then he STILL comes striding into the middle of the mid-pitch huddle at the end of the over pointing fingers. So I can understand why Mitch wants Benn to leave, that's a personal space issue and while Benn didn't touch Mitch (or maybe just brushed him), he was certainly close enough and in a confrontational enough mood that I'd be shoving him back too.

The real problem for me is that Bowden and Gayle who just stood there and watched it happen. Why wasn't Bowden blocking Benn from walking up to the batsmen's huddle? The pictures I saw of Bowden and Gayle showed them standing around doing nothing and that's just not good enough. At least with Watson this match, we saw Ponting give him a talking to straight afterwards. Same when Dougie kicked the ground in Adelaide - Ponting immediately whistled at him and pointed him back to his bowling mark. Where was Chris Gayle's intervention for Benn? I didn't see it, he was just hanging around near Benn and made no attempt to calm Benn from what I saw.
