And stats say Hauritz>Benn

Would you blame me if I thought that all West Indian fans were sore losers based on your performance in this thread?

I gave the Aussies credit but as almost everyone else indicted a good number of them acted like little kids instead of grown ass men.
I try to look at things as unbiased as possible because I'm not from any of these countries and try t give credit where its due and to the ones that acted like proper cricketers I gave credit to the ones that didn't well everyone else said what they think of them not just me.

You're going way overboard on this one. It was an animated celebration, sure, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. Benn's offence was physical, which makes it clearly worse.

As Chris Gayle said "I didn't expect anything better from him".

What makes Benn's case worse is that Johnson actually pushed him of when they were all together in the middle of the pitch and yet Benn got the worst of it. Haddin pointed his bat at Benn and made the situation even worse and started the whole thing, I'm happy that Benn plead not guilty. He might have taken it a bit too far with the words but at least he didn't point his bat at anyone or show someone 1st.

And stats say Hauritz>Benn

Do stats say that allot of Benn's wickets were top order and that Hauritz got allot of tailenders.

Hauritz gets a lot of tailenders in general. Usually the Hilfys and Johnsons rip the top off and then Hauritz starts bowling at 8/9/10/11

I rate Benn as a better bowler at the moment.

Yeah I defo don't rate Hauritz very highly. I'm all for getting a Casson, Bailey, Holland, Smith in there.

Would have been good if we could have listened to it. Fair enough call then.
Credit to Haddin he kept really well this series, especially to the quicks. Quite a few times they bowled really wide or it bounced and he managed to save 4 byes.

Johnson pushed Benn away to try to defuse the situation. That's what you do when it looks like two people are about to start a fight, you push them away from each other.

"They slapped two fellas on the wrist and they killed the other fella."
- Joel Garner is upset the same punishment was not meted out to all three involved in the WACA mid-pitch fracas

I didn't know stump mic's were used .

If they are, why not snicko then?

Snicko takes about at least 3-5 minutes to sync up between the picture and sound. There would be a massive delay if they had to wait for it. It's a good tool, but until they can make it instant like Hawkeye it's kinda useless.

Exactly. Mitch wasn't looking to make trouble. He was trying to get on with the game, and he did that by pushing Benn away from he and Haddin when Benn should have been walking back to his fielding position. Now sure, you can say he should never have touched him, but I think Mitch's actions were the most pure hearted of the 3 involved.

If by being physical you mean someone walking into your hand/finger as you're looking at someone else then sure, Benn was physical. After watching the full clip on youtube Benn really doesn't do anything to Johnson at all, it's pretty much:

- Benn's pointing at Haddin with "his" eyes soley on him
- Mitchell Johnson walks across and get's in between both of them and Benn's finger/hand grazes up on Johnson's shoulder
- Benn looks down and just as he does that Johnson pushes him in the ribs
- Benn reacts and try's to push Johnson of him using his arm also

IMO all three of them should of been banned for at least a game, there was no need for Haddin to come back down the pitch pointing his bat at Benn behaving like some sort of macho man and doing this started the whole dam thing.

Also, I'd like to know how Shane Watson only lost 15% of his match fee, he gave Gayle a send off and the last person I remember getting fined for doing such a thing got 80% (Watson's IMO was far worse also). It was good to see however Ricky Ponting taking charge when this happened as he didn't look to happy during this incident.

And if anything is was Haddin's fault for starting it by taking Benn's bait and telling him to go back to his mark and bowl after the totally accidental Benn/Johnson clash while running/going for the ball. Haddin's comment is not a real big issue IMHO. But after that it was Benn went on and on about Haddin pointing the bat at him so it really was Benn who escalated the further aggro between them all. He could have easily let Haddin's remark slide and it was obvious that the Aussies wanted to get on with play, while Benn wanted to argue and argue. Then suddenly Benn is in the mid-pitch huddle and Mitch is pushing him away. Benn doesn't really get much sympathy from me.

I don't think Benn was ever going to do anything. But that's only because Benn is such a relaxed guy. That said, he was carrying on like a tool and that kind of behaviour could have been disastrous in a more uneven tempered man - a Shane Watson or a Harbhajan Singh, for example. It's really not the kind of incident cricket needs. And reading between the lines, the suspension for Benn was also a punishment for Benn's low key confrontations throughtout the series. He went after Watson pretty heavily in Adelaide for example.

For the Watson fine, they mentioned an incident back in 1999 when Venkatesh Prasad did a similar send off to Michael Slater - he got a 35% fine. Honestly it's not much difference, a few hundred bucks. I would have liked to see a harsher penalty because Watson needs the deterrent. He just gets a bit carried away with the banter and contest sometimes. Yet off the field, he seems a decent bloke in interviews and the team likes having him in the dressing room.

@ Sifter... About the Haddin thing, the provocateur shouldn't be getting away, imo. Had he not stupidly pointed his bat at Benn, this matter wouldn't have gone as far as it did. Benn had every right to feel angry and look, we all know that players from the Windies except maybe Fidel, are generally quiet and like to concentrate on the game. Cussing pushes them off the edge and that is exactly what Haddin did.

He had no business getting involved in this tiff in the first place. Johnson & Benn could have solved it. But Haddin seems to have a verbal history so he was really just being himself. I feel sad for Benn and I agree with Dare that he didn't plead guilty. You don't plead guilty when you are not (entirely) at fault.

And agreed about the Watson thing. You nailed it when you said - "I would have liked to see a harsher penalty because Watson needs the deterrent. He just gets a bit carried away with the banter and contest sometimes."

We all read cricinfo dude, or did Joel Garner tell you that in private?

I don't see it posted anywhere in this thread. Hence shared. Knowledge is nothing if you want to keep it to yourself at all times or for the ill-informed rant :).
