Has to be given. He might not have hit it but the 3rd umpire doesn't have enough evidence to overturn it.

Irony, the Kiwis blew up deluxe when McCullum's decision was upheld in the same circumstance.

They used hot spot. I think Snicko just takes too long to set up or something, so it's never ready in time, even if they wanted to use it.

Could be the case but for whatever reason we have hardly use it. I remember in SA when they had it and even after 1 hour they didn't show snicko.

Never knew that wasn't allowed in cricket. Hope he didn't hurt Norths feelings :sarcasm

Seemed to be the other way around since it was Gayle getting mad and not North, North is sitting pretty on 68 doing it easy.

Did it prove that he didn't hit it?
I agree that the result produced was what is expected of the system. However, it's clearly unintuitive of caught behinds. How do you prove something didn't hit the bat if not by a lack of proof that it did?

I think you're expecting too much to be honest. We have to appreciate that this is a system that is in it's infancy. It's not going to be completely foolproof, and work in every situation, but it does help in a lot of situations. It's improving the decision making, just not making it 100% correct all the time.

MUFC1987 added 3 Minutes and 6 Seconds later...

Just thinking, I mean, how do you make that decision correctly using video stuff? You'd need a hot spot camera square of the wicket, but to cover all the bases, you'd need another 4 cameras, which is just never going to happen due to cost.

One thing I think would help batsmen on the short term is if they just remember to show the edge of their bat to HotSpot when it might be useful. However, in the long run, seeing as they've already made improvements, I do expect further revisions of the system.

too many drops, its a sad thing for the WI that the best fielder is the oldest players on the team.
Shiv and Nash should be in the slips and these other dudes should be going around chasing the ball in the covers.

Finally got a snicko, doesn't look like an edge. Just a shame we couldn't get that through quicker. Anyway not a shocker, just good to put that one to rest.

Don't devalue Ponting's pull shot like that! Hauritz is playing the Johnson role now, attacking the bowling from number 9.

west indies haven't really surprised anyone have they?

they've threatened to look good and shown individual moments of promise but the overall performance is a bit of a shambles, here comes hauritz with a 50.

not surprising me at all. Same old stuff, look good one moment and bad the next. Some good fielders in the team but then some really awful ones, cant believe a ongoing problem like that cant be solved.
