I just noticed simmons isn't selected anyway and bravo is definitely better than Deonarine and Dowlin, so I guess he'll play.

I really think they should look at doing what england or australia have done recently and pick an all rounder in one of the bowling slots. there's no shame in it, australia took white to india to bolster them and broad and swann's selection for england has a lot to do with batting. Maybe play Deonarine in place of Benn, it seems pointless but there's not point sticking to the standard top 5/all-rounder/wicky/4 bowlers formula if you're going to get slaughtered.

HA, was just writing a post to that effect.

Yea I guess you could leave out Rampaul and play the extra batsmen:

Taylor
Roach
Bravo
Benn
Gayle/Nash/Sarwan

Australia could rack up a pretty nig score though. And you wouldn't want Roach and Taylor bowling more the 30+ overs an innings.

The list looks reasonable, but hopefully their fielding is up to scratch. They've put themselves out of so many games due to dropped catches.

Should be good. They have a strong batting line up, will be interesting to see how the Australian attack goes about getting them all out......

Should be the duel of the series I think....

Not a bad squad of 15, am happy the selectors finally see Devon Smith has long past his free ride on West Indies tours, pity Edwards is not available, and this is one of the reasons I have reservations about these Leagues outside of the FTP, because this one have deprived us of our best Bowler!!
I have my own reservations about Dowlin and Deonarine being selected ahead of Simmons, if it was based on First Class record, theirs' are no different than Simmons, I believe that he is in form at this time and should be selected ahead of these two! By the way he does bat in the middle for Trinidad!
Tonge is very much untested and Rampaul should make the XI before him, since there will be only one warm-up match before the first test.

You'd think Reifer would get a go? You can't just drop the captain :facepalm

I would have gone with Simmons over Dowlin too. I guess because they took Barath they didn't take Simmons who does open for T&T because of their batting depth and they don't have space for him in the middle order. Even tho he is a much better middle order batsman then a opener.
IMO Deonarine definitely deserves a spot in the squad. He had a really good domestic season last year and has started the 50 over competition by scoring some runs.

For me the concern is with the selection of Benn over the likes of Miller, Mohammed and Odean Brown. Those 3 are much better then Benn, for the teams sake I hope he proves me wrong on this tour and does well but I cant see that happening.

How long will it take for Lee and company to recover? Because M Clarke is also injured, Hopes, Siddle, will they be able to play ? What about M Clarke?

I think that Clarke might be ready for the tour and same goes for Siddle. Not sure about Lee.

Don't know why but I am half expecting the Windies to win one match or at least draw most.

Chanders, Gayle, Sarwan, Nash, Edwards, Taylor, Bravo, Roach

Pretty legit players for what's considered to be one of the lower ranked cricket teams.

except Edwards is out injured :(:crying

I really, really want the windies to do well here and win a test. I think that they do have enough quality players that are capable of putting australia on the back foot, and perhaps if that happens at the right moment they can snatch one.

but despite the names looking good in the windies side the australian guys just perform so much more consistently and I reckon that australia are going to bat the west indies out of each match.

I'll be hoping they can cause an upset though and at least australia's injury problems might even things up a bit.

1st Test: West Indies v Australia at Kingston, May 22-26, 2008 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
2nd Test: West Indies v Australia at North Sound, May 30-Jun 3, 2008 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
3rd Test: West Indies v Australia at Bridgetown, Jun 12-16, 2008 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

this was a good example of WI actually putting up a fight when they were expected to be dominated. And this was with a much weaker team IMO.

I know they lost but they did really well and actually had the Aussies in trouble in the 1st test.
