Pollard belted a 57 off 50 in the 50 over domestic final, then took 3-37 in the chase. I'm as surprised as you are, probably has done enough to get into the ODI squad now anyway.

Hussey survives because of Clarke. Ferguson will be kicking himself, but that's life I suppose. Really bad luck. Can't see the selectors picking anyone else to replace Hussey.....

More like North survives because of Clarke. With Watto groing down the order to let Hughes back in, Hussey/Clarke/Watson are more valuable than North.

And I don't see a reason to boot Hussey now, looks like he has found his form back, even though it is ODI's, he looks much more in control now.

Hussey, unlike North is 32 or whatever. And he doesn't offer a spin option....

But he is a much better batsmen in his prime, North only performed on flat conditions when he had Clarke on the other side, his highly defensive technique is quite negative.

no he hasn't. north made 110 on a pitch the entire england team could only manage 102.

he also rebuilt the jo'burg test, top scoring with 100 putting on two 100 run partnerships with haddin and johnson on a pitch that SA (and australia 2nd time around) failed to go past 300 on.

2 of his 3 tons in his 7 match career have been the only 100s in the match. his 96 at edgbaston was pretty good too and second top score of the match, also, that's his only 50. conversion rate much?

And he's always done well in tricky conditions here during domestic cricket, batting with the tail after top order collapses. He can bat both quickly and slowly. During the period he's played Hussey has made how many runs?

And in regard to Clarke there's nothing you can say about his Test Match batting, it's been flawless off late, and he doesn't bat slowly or negatively in the longer format....

Geez no way North could be dropped, his 3 big innings in England were great, especially the latter 2 which saved and won the 2 matches respectively. He is very calm and deserves the chance on shine on home soil.

That'd be really harsh, for Hussey to be picked ahead of North. North has been so much better for the Aussies since coming in, his batting has been really consistent, and he's performed in difficult conditions. As well as this, his bowling has been good, and his work at first slip.

Hussey on the other hand, has barely even been meagre. If there was a North for Hughes trade, I'll have lost the little bit of respect I have for the ASP.

Harsh or not, we have to choose the best players, Hussey is clearly the better player, especially now that he has found his for back (like Hayden).

What was Hussey's contribution in the Ashes again? Or his contribution during the South African series? Not much.

That's beside the point, his contribution in India has been invaluable.

Recent form matters, and in his last Test he got a century, on a very difficult pitch trying to save the Ashes.

So it is beside the point that the "better batsman" contributed jack all when we needed him the most? When we needed a senior player other than Ponting or Clarke to step up Hussey was nowhere to be seen until the VERY last whimper of the Ashes all the while floating through South Africa and the rest of England as a passenger. North was instrumental in setting up a huge first innings lead for us to win the first test which the bowlers didn't take (Hussey was the only one to fail btw) and North again set up a vital first innings lead after coming in at 4/151 (ironicaly when Hussey failed) to bat through until the very end and this time our bowlers DID capitilise and we win by an innings.

Let us also not forget that on debut at Jo'berg North came in at the same score as he did at Leeds and guided us a big first innings that was crucial against the in form batting side in the world. Again, Hussey failed and if North had have failed then suddenly 200 becomes a struggle instead of 450 odd.

Beside the point my arse.
