West Indies Tour of England - May to June 2012

I don't think Edwards has really looked fully fit. Doesn't seem to be getting any real pace at all.

I also don't think Gayle would really make too much difference, he's so far removed from test cricket now. Sarwan however has scored runs in England, and would definitely strengthen the batting lineup. Seems to be in form too.

West Indies have done ok in this match considering the very minor preparation, and unlike India kept plugging away when they could have let things slip away. It would be unlikely they get anything from this, but they've at least got themselves in the game if they can see through the morning tomorrow.
yep before Sarwan got pick for Leic I though we would be in the Test Squad.
I dont know why we keep Powell, I was happy they left out K Brathwaite for England I think these two young boy need to go England and play county Team, they need more training. If we had Sarwan in this Team, He could of play Number 3 and Edward could Open, he does Open for Barbados.

we do had one more opener to Test out thats is Simmons he is fit again.

to be honest even without de big Name, We could still have a good Team, If WI Selector use they heads.

Example. A Barath, L Simmon and K Edward Opening Batsman
Number 3 Sarwan
Number 4 Daren Bavo
Number 5 Chanderpaul
Number 6 Deonarine/ Fundani
Number 7 Ramdin
Number 8 Sammy (to be honest I love his sprite in WI cricket, but for me he isnt a Test Player if i have to choose some one else it would be Shillinford/ Bishoo
Number 9 Roach
Number 10 Rampal
Number Gabriel (he looks good, just HOPe he carry one.

For ODI / T20 is a challege Gayle, Russel, Pollard, Narine, Dywane Bravo, K Copper (hope he make his Debut) all look capable of a Powerful ODI/T20 side, Only if our selectors sees it. not mentioning Dywane smith, he was actrully in my line up, but i think he gone back in his Old way of playing. keeps getting out stupid.

but anyway I just hope this young team do good. but yeah like you said Sarwan is really need, At least 2 experiance Player is a MUST in the team, to help the youngster chanderpau isnt enough.
dont matter what though, beating england in england is very Hard, it's like trying to bat west Indies of the 80's lol.

Another name mentioned earlier, Brendan Nash, someone with mettle and good experience, also playing in England atm for Kent!

Chanderpaul at 5 only works if Sarwan is at 4. Otherwise he runs out of partners too quickly.

Exactly. He and the management team should do what is best for the team, laying anchor at the top of the order and batting through probably.

If he's left stranded not out again, that may suit his average, he may even be happier than a pig in proverbial, but the team will still have lost. You need to maximise your runs, not keep players in "comfort zones". I bet some of our bowlers' "comfort zone" is the pavillion and not having to bat at all

His record at five is very good, however it is aided by a fair few not outs and having batted there near enough at least three times as often as any other batting position. You do need someone to bat with the tail, but when a batsman is left not out every SIXTH innings you have to wonder "what if" - 31 of his 40 not outs were batting five or lower.

I think windies need to have as much experience as they can call upon, while theory may have been experience will come and give the younger players a chance, when is that going to happen? And what kind of experience is losing all the time?!?!?

Barath : 13 Tests, 609 runs @ 24.36
Powell : 7 Tests, 297 runs @ 21.21
Edwards : 8 Tests, 658 runs @ 43.87
Bravo : 17 Tests, 1389 runs @ 47.90
CHANDERPAUL : 141 Tests, 10176 runs @ 50.63
Samuels : 38 Tests, 1881 runs @ 29.86
Ramdin : 43 Tests, 1488 runs @ 22.55 & 123/3 ct/st
Sammy : 25 Tests, 800 runs @ 19.05 & 66 wkts @ 31.35
Roach : 18 Tests, 65 wkts @ 29.02
Edwards : 54 Tests, 158 wkts @ 38.23
Gabriel : 1 Test, 3 wkts @ 20.00

Edwards hasn't done too badly, although 252 of his runs are against Bangladesh. He has scored two fifties and a hundred against India and one fifty against the aussies. Bravo has done quite well too, a 195 against Bangladesh never hurt anyone's average mind.

A lack of substance opening, a lack of experience in the key positions of three and four, so a strong case for Chanderpaul to move up the order with so little experience above him - 45 Tests between four batsmen

Given the pace of the wicket today, there must be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth to be heard from the batsmen who got out yesterday.

My "prediction" such as it is and they are is looking quite good with windies on for 120-150. There is a danger of it being a bit more in the end, but I didn't think Samuels would go on quite so well and was working more on bits n pieces with England being frustrated by the tail

It's a pretty slow and flat pitch. As I said I think 398 was under par. 200 should still be straightforward to chase.

In Englands favour is there is no spinner to build pressure with when chasing anything around 250-300 on this kind of pitch. Still well played the Windies, showing some good fight.

Also Owzat you say they should do what's best for the team. Perhaps what's best for the team is letting your best batsman who is now 37 just bat where he wants ;)

This team will do much better then what they are doing right now:

Gayle
Simmons/Barath
Sarwan
Darren Bravo
Chanderpaul
Nash/Samuels
Ramdin
Sammy
Rampaul
Narine
Roach

If I was Ramdin, I would have hit that a lot further than he did.

Will someone please just get Chanderpaul out. He is human...

----------

C'mon Swanny. Waiting for the DRS to screw us :p

On the Chanderpaul batting too low thing, personally, I don't think you can blame him for the WIndies boards failings. With their strongest side out, he'd have Gayle and Sarwan ahead of him and it wouldn't be an issue really. It's only because he's head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the team, that he gets classed as 'selfish' or something crazy like that.
