What Languages Can You Speak?

Pallu, mate, its absolutely fine even if you would have been a noob at English. English certainly is a global language but its no sin not being an expert it in. You can get a hold of it when put into practice of being attached with the people who are good at English, try listening to English news followed by Urdu or what your local language is if national channel there airs news that way. Make a habit to have a look at a good online dictionary such as merriam-webster and/or pronunciation websites like howjsay. It will take your English to a whole new level.

He should also not try to claim that he has great English when he obviously doesn't:p.

Let's not go off-topic guys. If Pallu knows English than good for him, if not than we've got no business with it. No personal attacks please.
Than?
Pallu can now claim that he knows better English than you! :p

Dammit, why do I always mess up between then and than. :p

I am just twelve man , thanks I appreciate that , but look I am not English speaking . I know English is used to talk to others who don,t know my national language . I just use English to talk to Arabs , well Arabs speak English very bad and also I don,t listen news and I don,t like them . I can just say that my punctuation is good + pronunciation . I always got above 95% in English .

A test doesn't say how good you are in English, I got a B, and my english is pretty awesome, my friend got an A*, and he speaks like a ------, it now how much english you know but how speak and use it in writing

I don't know about Kuwait, the place where Pallu lives but the marking scheme in India is pretty flawed. In Mumbai you have the third language as Marathi (the local language). Well I can't even form a sentence correctly in the language and I scored well in the subject during my final boards. I was literally shocked to see the marks, and then there were some of my friends having their primary language as Marathi failing to get good marks in the subject, but well that's the Indian education system for you.

Marks (high or low) in school prove nothing, and I realized it after entering the college life where the real test begun.

I assume that's English Literature you are talking about, completely different.

I always get 96% in English and in my recent exam, I got 100% . If a person always defeats you then what that means ? that means that he is better than you . I always get above 95% in English , this means that my English is good .

----------

And all the English teachers say that my essay are the best in the class .

There's something called practical knowledge.

You are probably around 13 pallu, and being an asian myself I know you are not supposed to know it at this age in a society like ours, but exams here usually involve sticking to a restricted domain and adapting to 'learn' and 'excel' within that domain. If you've mastered the subject within the domain (with respect to you, that is knowing the answers to the questions, knowing how to write the typical essays and so on) doesn't mean that you've mastered the subject. Therefore, scoring 96% (or whatever) in English indicates that you have learned everything that was in your syllabus, and I'm not also denying that you might have exemplary logical ability, intuition, or perhaps even a flair for writing (how much do I really know you?). But that doesn't indicate that you've mastered English completely as a subject. I won't tell you how it doesn't, you'll know it for yourself after a few years if you pursue English further. Trust me, I'm a guy who used to score 95%+ in English all round the year when I was your age, and now I know my English wasn't very good - I was just good at restricting myself to what the exam wanted me to write and not think beyond it, and otherwise my intuitive ability was very good.

Finally, don't overgeneralize what I have said.

Highly doubt, that he is going to understand all of that. probably should have used a lot simpler english. In essence what Varun means, you learn well what you are taught, but that doesn't mean you are good because you don't know what else you haven't been taught

Just to make pallu feel better. I had horrible English than him when I was 12. I have seen users with much worse English being older than him. He is just 12. Don't be hard on that chap. No one knows English at the time of birth, not even native English speaking countries. You can see a overall change whenever a person gets older. As long as, people can understand his sentences, it's not a problem. He will improve just like we all have improved our language, understanding and knowledge over the time. Give him some time, I am sure we all had difficulty in English when we were at his age. I think he deserves proper guidance at his age not the bashing which we all are giving now.

Yeah, I agree with you mate. He is just 12 or 13 year old guy, fighting against him makes no sense.

And regarding my English grades, I got an A+ in tenth Pre Final, got some over confidence which lead to me scoring 65% in board and the 85 mark just missed due to the percentage scored in English:p

Exactly. I'm sure most of the members here who have been part of this site since I've joined would be aware that my English was horrible when I joined this site and I went through the same thing that you're going through, Pallu. Some members made fun of my English but I took their comments in a positive way and tried to improve. I still make grammatical mistakes in my post, for that matter we all do. I do agree that some members here have been very harsh on you which isn't right but I shall tell you that don't take their comments in the wrong way, if anything work on your English like I did and you'd surely improve because clearly you have good English for a 13 year old. Enjoy this site. :)
