Bowlers, batsmen, keepers and fielders have different roles, although you do find many bowlers wear vests when you would otherwise think it is unnecessary. You're not going to feel uncomfortable in normal summer weather, but the human body is almost always hotter than the air, meaning your muscles are usually losing heat to the air. Even in hot weather, it's going to affect the chance of cramp, but I don't know whether that is something they worry about.Cricket is played in the summer. If you are wicket keeping, you are NOT going to get cold in 25-45 degree heat. When you exercise, your body warms UP, so if anything, it would be warmer. (Unless a breeze is caught under the sleeves). Going by that logic, bowlers, batsman hell even fielders would be waring long sleeves as to keep warm.
I think Feelin Blue? has the most accurate answer so far.. I think it might just be tradition.. or it looks cool.
On the other hand, you may be on to something. How often do you see the keeper go off the field with a soft tissue injury? A lot less than anyone else. Considering the uptake of thermal undergarments like Skins, maybe everyone should have been wearing more all along.
