I don't see why England is in the lead in this poll. They have done nothing in the last few years to show that they are a decent ODI side. Unless they pull a few miracles out of the hat, I don't see them threatening the likes of Australia and South Africa.

How is it that England is in the lead here? they are an Aweful ODI outfit. I mean, When was the last time they actually won an ODI series? Kevin Pietersen carries that entire retched side on his shoulders for goodness sakes!

Tres is as good as KP, and anyway it's not our fault we have one of the best ODI batsman in world cricket.

Either India or Pakistan imo.

We have good enough players to win a World Cup imo, just not good enough selectors or more importantly a coach for ODI cricket.

England are a good test team, but they should be massive underdogs for this.

Its going to be a close world cup, most of the worlds best teams are more or less on par at the moment.

The West Indies are at home and can not be underestimated. They have been playing top cricket lately. They are as good a side as any. I honestly think they can win it. I really hope one of these underdog teams (especially us) wins it and I think thats what will happen.

I feel Australia will find it very difficult, maybe impossible, to retain the World Cup another 4 years. I think South Africa have a very realistic chance, and will want to desperately get a World Cup under their belt to prove they're one of the best sides in the world.

India will need to peak at the right time and have their players in form to make a realistic grab. Pakistan will need to have their top players fit. England will need to find some bowlers. Sri Lanka may even stretch a few of the top opponents. It should be one of the best World Cups and hopefully I'll be there, if only during the practice stages. :P

It would certainly be one of the more evenly contested world cups. To me the 2003 competition was a dissapointment. One way street for Australia and the rest of the other teams had no answers. On this occassion I think all teams have a chance to win the competition, even Bangladesh who in recent pasts have string up some surprises. Favourites for me will be the Windies purely on home advantage and performing strongly against India, Sth Africa they have got every area covered, India and Sri Lanka. The dark horse for me will be New Zealand.

This time there is one more compititor in the world cup and that is Rain, teams have to face that threat too to win this world cup, cuz if it will rain one day then the chances r there will be rain next day too.

australia will probably still win. its true that most of the current players in the australian 11 are quite old but that doesnt matter coz we have HEAPS of GOOD talent coming through. Here is the one day squad for australia that i predickt will be going 2 the carribean.
1. Nathan Bracken
2. Micheal Clarke
3. Dan Cullen
4. Brad Haddin
5. Brad Hodge
6. Brad Hogg
7. James Hopes
8. Mike Hussey (maybe)
9. Simon Katich
10. Brett Lee
11. Micheal Lewis
12. Andrew Symmonds
13. Shaun Tait
14. Shane Watson
15. Cameron White
and all the domestic batters but i cant think of their names.
Australia will still dominate!!!!
:cheers

ur a moron, that team u listed will get destroyed

No Ponting, no Hayden, no Gilchrist??? Theyre old, but there still better than some of the cr*p you've listed.

I think Australia, with their current squad can win it, i dont think they will.
Alot of people are overlooking New Zealand, the Kiwi's have a damn good team and they could very well take it. My heart still says India though, if the bowling can be decent, India's massive talent with the bat will pull them through

Australia does

I dont think so bro

Australia is still the best team in the world and they can win next world cup too, the only problem is about 2nd opener, one side its gilchrist rocking as usual but on other side they have katich who is always slow in run scoring and one day is totally run scoring game, must be hayden have to come back or they have to pick other opener who can score some fast runs.

You must have heard that

Too much of a Good thing is bad.

I talk about the youngsters in the team here.
I feel that the right blend of experience must accompany the young blood for an important campaign like the World Cup.
Being a Ganguly fan,i'd like to see him in the team along with Kumble too.
I also don't see Sreesanth in the WC squad, who in my opinion, would most likely be replaced by L.Balaji, who is making a good recovery.

And the answer to your question,we [this particular combination]have been beaten once by Pakistan,England,Sri Lanka.
Twice by South Africa and lately 4-1 by the West Indies.

One must take the good with the bad. It has been beaten twice by Pakistan and beaten them 5 times; beaten once by England and beaten them 5 (6?) times; beaten once by Sri Lanka and beaten them 6 times; beaten twice by South Africa and beaten them twice. An overall record of 18-6. You add Windies to the mix and you get 19-10, still a 66%+ record.

Agreed that this team has a lot of work to do before they become a serious challenger for the World Cup, but making snippety-snap changes on the back of results would not be fair logic.

Also, I was looking up tickets/travel requirements to the West Indies for the world cup. Is anyone familiar with the visa acquirement processes/requirements for Indian nationals? I found that Jamaica did not require a visa because India was in the commonwealth, but I checked out Barbados and their website did list India as a country requiring a visa, even though both involved countries are in the Commonwealth.

Also, does anyone know about the frequency/price of flights between the various islands? Thanks.

Yes.
About the visas,I have just found out that the 12 Caribbean Nations will have a common cricket visa amongst them.
This means that the West Indies would be referred to as a country finally.
This would be there only for the World Cup.
The plans are on to increase the flight frequency too.

That's good news. I hope they given commonwealth countries a free visa, although they probably won't, because they'll be trying to raise money from that sector too.
