World Cup 2011 PC game coming from Codies!

Oohhh, if this is true (its from a unreliable website, can't find any other confirmation atm) then its gunna be such a fail its possibly the worst decision ever! Ouchies.

Reliance (owners of Zapak & Codemasters) has its coffers full of money, its like Microsoft releasing a game & not making money out of it. Such a thing wont dent them at all. IMO its the dumbest move ever unless they wish to spend a fortune on copy protection as well.
.Codies must put a Serial key Activation To play online this time !Other wise it ....:facepalm.

The news came from a press release. The quote was officially revealed by Zapak's CEO Rohit Sharma. Remember, Zapak is 50% of Codies.

Could you link us all to this, because all I can find is links to your website.

Even if the statement might be true, it might have been taken for too much. Maybe it'll be a Zapak'ish effort. I don't have much hopes tbh. They have 50% share. They're not the sole owners / dictators of the company. They have to look at funds too. Reliance didn't invest just to get the Indian fans happy by releasing a Cricket game. They did it for money, and unless they see it I doubt its going to happen.

Although, if Zapak sponsor the game, they'll probably go BIG on advertising it in India, in televisions etc., so people buying original copies may come true.

If you'll read it carefully you'll find the original source as well there.

I haven't read the article but I hope codies are not making flash cricket game for zapak
Lol, Jump Games will be making flash games.

Hitterman added 10 Minutes and 34 Seconds later...

Here is the whole Statement:
“For the just-concluded IPL and the ongoing T20 World Cup, we have a 3D multiplayer cricket game, Howzat, and a new Fantasy Cricket game. Post the ICC T20 Champions League, Zapak will distribute the ‘Codemasters’ International Cricket 2010’ game in India on June 18. The game will be published for the PlayStation and Xbox 360. Zapak plans to launch 11 cricket games in the next seven months for its gamers. A casual flash-based game can be sourced for a cost of Rs 10 lakh. For the World Cup 2011, the Codemasters game will be released on the PC format,” concurs Rohit Sharma, chief executive of Zapak.

It'd be logical to release a game in India for the World Cup, it is also logical to do that on PC, as console penetration in India is tiny.

Needing to hit that lowest common denominator of PC for market success (AC09's lack of sales on PC in India is also to do with how many people would have the high standard of computer needed) will likely mean an entirely separate game that's just a local cash-in with lower graphics, or a heavily scaled down version.

I have heard nothing to suggest that Codemasters have the ICC licence needed for an official world cup game, so I wouldn't get your hopes up on a fully licensed one, especially at the bargain price wanted.

Though of course there is likely to be a 2011 Cricket game from Codemasters, they seem to now be on a yearly schedule, and that would mean a Western release.

There's in my view an uncertainty here, whether they want to do a very local Indian game to promote a local world cup, or whether this is just simply that International Cricket 2011 is going to be back on PC and hoping a World Cup timed release will mean a better chance at profiting.

As always, I'd be cautious over estimating the role Zapak have in decisions.

Who knows, they may change the franchise again and release it as "ICC Cricket 2011":p

Just put in a unique CD-requirement security for online play and it will sell (given price is Rs.500). Most of the people who pirate it for SP will end up buying the game for online MP. With Zapak publishing this I'm sure they will push for this idea, they'd be extremely dumb not too.

I bet if Codies (Zapak) will sell this new game in India at a price around 500 then they'll definitely be in a big loss. Even though its cheap, piracy still remains. Securom 7 protection was "EPIL FAIL".

If Coddies won't be doing a fully licensed game then that probably means EA has the exclusive license. They even hinted that in CG's interview that requiring the "full" license is a time taking process, so yeah that probably means we will be seeing TenHookers in next years Coddie game too.

I just don't want EA to grab the license. I don't want another game to be dropped like ICC Cricket 09. If Codies will get the license then they'll definitely produce something really big.

I was just wondering whether a new game depends on the success of IC 2010 or not:(

CricketGaming: What other platforms are you targeting in future for next cricket game?

John Szoke: Our first goal is to finish IC2010 and see how it is received. Then we’ll begin discussing where we need to take the game and what platform best meets that need.

Don't include any protection for single player, its always a waste of time (see : Ubisoft). Let them pirate. Then as long as online requires unique CD-keys only found in new Retail boxes then sales will come like crazy, that is just guaranteed.

When's the last time you played a SP you absolutely loved and never wanted to play its online? Never. Multiplayer gaming has always been giant in India and that cannot be denied with all the Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 craze over there right now. AoE2 and NFS2 we would play all day on LAN in school and probably would have bought the game for home if it didn't cost Rs.2000.

Or take Modern Warfare 2 as an example, most pirated game of 2009, also the most sold/digitally downloaded (Steam) PC game of 2009.
