Preview: West Indies vs World XI (20/20)

West Indies team:

World XI team:
http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/showpost.php?p=546488&postcount=94

The World XI have left a number of their strongest players on the sidelines for this 20/20 international. The fans will be disapointed that the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Andrew Flintoff and Adam Gilchrist have not been selected for the game. The selector has given one last chance for the likes of Marcus Trescothick, Shaun Pollock, Lance Klusener and Steve Harmison to seal a place in the team for the 1st ODI. Hayden and Trescothick will hope to form another solid opening partnership, with Andy Flower and Virender Sehwag coming in at 3 and 4. Wicketkeeper Sangakkara gets one last chance to shine after his duck in the first game. Klusener is the teams batting allrounder and Pollock the bowling allrounder, and also captain. Feelinblue? has selected 4 specialist bowlers: Pace men Lee, Harmison and Ntini, with Muralitharan the teams spinner. Murali will be hoping to seal his place in the side for the ODI by keeping the economy under 10 and over, and taking some wickets. The team has a great bowling attack, the selector will just be hoping that the batting can hold up.

The West Indies have gone with a predictable lineup. Gayle and Chanderpaul will open the batting, with Sarwan at 3 and the captain, Lara, at 4. Ricardo Powell bats at 5 like he did at the World Cup. Dwayne Smith replaces Carl Hooper at 6 from that World Cup team. Smith is an exciting allrounder- an explosive shotmaker with the bat, and he is also a wicket taker with the ball. Described by Lara in the pre-match interview as the 'West Indian Andrew Flintoff', clearly the West Indians need some big performances from Smith. Ridley Jacobs will bat at 7, with Ryan Hinds coming in way down at 8. He is a great batsman to have so low down the order, and it's hoped his useful left-arm spin will come in handy. Ian Bradshaw is a solid cricketer. Fast bowlers Tino Best and Fidel Edwards will open the bowling for the West Indies attack.

Yea.. not the strongest team but it with give the not so obvious choices a chance. Sangakara i think he is a good player in RPCI and it seems to be the same game as BLCI nearly so maybe he can do some good stuff hopefully

Lets get this show on the road!

Well I am much more likely to give games to teams that are checking by here. While 2 people are down to do the 2nd and 3rd ODIs, if they don't check by here like you and Surendar have done, then I'm most likely to offer one of the games to you. I prefer it more when the selector gets involved like you have done. I can't be bothered chasing a selector around.

World XI vs West Indies - 20/20 International

West Indies win toss, BAT
Code:
[u]Batsman Runs	Balls	How Out[/u]
C.Gayle [b]21[/b]	11	c Trescothick b Muralitharan
S.Chanderpaul	[b]1[/b]	1	Run Out
R.Sarwan	[b]15[/b]	12	c Sangakkara b Harmison
B.Lara [b]8[/b]	11	c Sehwag b Harmison
R.Powell	[b]0[/b]	1	b Muralitharan
D.Smith [b]39[/b]	29	b Lee
R.Jacobs	[b]0[/b]	1	b Harmison
R.Hinds [b]0[/b]	2	Run Out
I.Bradshaw	[b]18[/b]	7	c Hayden b Ntini
T.Best [b]1[/b]	5	c+b Pollock
F.Edwards	[b]1[/b]	1	Not Out
	        [b][u]108 All out (13.1 overs)[/b][/u]
Bowling:
Code:
[u]Bowler Overs	Maidens	Runs	Wickets	Economy[/u]
M.Muralitharan	4	2	33	2	8.3
S.Harmison	4	1	12	3	3.0
S.Pollock	3	0	44	1	14.7
M.Ntini 2	0	18	1	9.0
B.Lee 0.1	0	1	1	1.0
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, you would have thought the Windies had a plan. Apparently not. Chanderpaul was run out in the second over, and it was only the start of things to come. Murali was smashed for 33 off his first 2 overs, but then proved his worth with 2 excellent consecutive overs that brought 2 wickets for 0 runs. Harmison was also in devastating form. The England pace man opened with a maiden, then took the key wickets of Sarwan and Lara. Hinds was also run out, and things weren't looking good.

Murali was in awesome form, seen here sharing a joke with his buddy Darrell.

The introduction of Pollock and Ntini changed the flow a little, as Dwayne Smith smashed a solid 39 from 29 balls. However, the help he received was minimal, and when Bradshaw was caught on the boundary trying to sweep slog Ntini, the innings was as good as over. Brett Lee claimed the final wicket with his second ball (his first being a no-ball), uprooting Smiths off stump.

How did sangakara go keeping?

Yeah Sangakkara did just fine, no major drops or errors.

I have finished the game and written the report. However I'm having difficulties with my internet at home (I'm on a public computer right now), so I have to get that fixed, and then I will post the rest of the game.
