Now I am to coach Hong Kong players how to cut the ball. I love Hong Kong. I really do. I am a Hong Kong citizen after all. My goal is to represent them in International cricket one day.
But teaching them how to bat. Ugghhh. The less said about my batting, the better, but I guess if I go by the saying 'Those that can't do, teach.', I should be decent at explaining this to them.

When the bowler pitches the ball, press the left arrow key just as it bounces. Because it speeds up right after that, and you end up pressing to late, causing the knick behind or a catch at cover. Hit it as it bounces, so you get it off the middle for four. If you time it well, you'll get the ball with the tail of flames and it goes for six! God I love that in Stick Cricket.

But I assume you mean in proper cricket, in which case...err...back and across, eye on the ball, and play it under your head? That's what my coaches have been telling me all my cricketing life. I never seem to get back and across, just back, so my weight is at one place and I end up flailing at the ball away from my body. Going back and across so that your head is above the ball as it approaches you makes your body weight more balanced so you can connect with the ball easier. You can also see the ball onto bat that way, and are in more control to where it goes as you are better balanced. Don't go too far across, your head shouldn't literally be over the ball, it should be a bit behind. If you get too far, you are cramped for room and the ball hits the back part of the bat (the part near the handle) rather than the middle, which could lead to an edge or miscue. So go back, across, eye on the ball, balance your weight, and lean into the shot. No need to swing hard, just get it off the middle...

MacWorld: Welcome to part 2 of the Cricketer 2008. The task set today was to coach the Hong Kong cricket team at how to play a cut shot properly and answere two questions. This seemed like a very easy task but i was looking for the person with the best answers and who would explain the answers the best. I was also looking for someone who seemed like he new what he was talking about. Lets see how you all did:

The Cricketer 2008​

Welcome to part 2 of The Cricketer 2008, the show where 12 contestants battle it out for a £100,000 cash prize and a contract with Hampshire A team. Before the break MacWorld set a challenge to the 2 remaining candidates. This was the final challenge and would decide the overall winner, The challenge set was to write why you believed you should win and how you would bat in a ODI needing 50 runs of 5 overs with a tailender with you at the crease. The tasks were very well done and today the winner will be announced. Good Luck to both contestants.

Andrew Caddick: Zorax definatly shined today, his essay was amazing, he was able to show how much he knows about cricket and how good he is, From not knowing much about cricket as a youngster he has learnt so much and even lost some weight doing it. I like Zoraxs wit and he is a great guy as well as being a great cricketer, You can tell he wants this and he has worked hard since he came on the show. The third question was answered exceptionally well, he took the viewpoint from both batsman and was able to show what he would do. I do believe the ICC stuff was irrelivant but he still made a good point and has been able to show us just how good he is. He deserves to win today.

Danni has done it again. An amazing essay and he did it in style, he proved why he should win by comparing, something Zorax did not do. He also pointed out flaws in his opponant and was able to show us what he had acheived during the show. However unlike Zorax he did not tell me any of his own experience or anything other than what he had done on the show. The third question was answered very well and was able to prove he knows what to do. He was able to show how the one good batsman should bat and easily would know how to manage this situation professionaly. Danni also deserves to be here and it is going to be hard which one will win.

Mike Gatting: Danni has done it again, a excellent piece from him but it did lack something. His first answer was very good pointing out how well he had done in the competition so far, he needed to explain more about his past experience but apart from that he has done great the last question was answered exceptionally well and he was able to really puthimself in that situation. If he was batting out there he would have done it.

Zorax did this task to the best of his ability, he was witty but some of it was unnecssary. He was able to prove he should win based on past experience and what i have seen of him on this show. He is very good at answering questions and proved this with the last answer by showing exactly what was needed to be done.

1. Write a 200 word min essay on why you should win

Hmm. Well, let me put it this way. I play for the Downright Donkeys. I earn more money in a day that you would ever see in your entire life, I have connections in places you couldn't dream of, and I know people who can make bad things happen in a heartbeat. I am also extremely generous when in a good mood. So, technically, the sensible choice would be to pick me, if you knew what is good for you.

But apart from that, cricket has always been a huge part of my life. If you've read this then you'll know. I've always held cricket above any other hobby, it has been my number one interest for as long as I can remember. And I've always seen it as one thing, a game. To be played for fun. No point playing if you aren't having fun. That's my motto in life, no point doing anything if you aren't having fun doing it. Cricket is the greatest sport in the world, my passion, and I have loads of fun playing it, be it proper hard-ball cricket, tennis ball gulli cricket, or with a foil ball and lunch box in school. T20 or Timeless Tests. In any size, shape and form, I love cricket. I eat, sleep, and play cricket. It's in my dreams. It's in anything I do. Cricket is me, and I won't say it is all I care about, but what's for sure is that I'll never stop playing it. Even when I'm 80. Cricket has always been a part of my life, and probably always will be, and I don't regret a second of it.

But yea, if I don't win, you'd better sleep with one eye open.

3. How would you play in a ODI needing 50 runs of 5 overs with 3 wickets left.

Set the batsmen all on V.Aggressive (one bar from full aggression), cross my fingers, and hope for the best. ICC 05 doesn't give a great deal of options when you are in a predicament like this.

But since ICC 05 sucks in situations like this (unless both batsmen in are good, very aggressive in nature, and well settled), I often wish I could take it into my own hands. In which case, I'll just keep turning the strike over. It's more than likely I'm the tailender here, so my goal would be to hit every ball, get atleast a single, and not to get out. The match is as good as lost, so keep handing the strike over, and keep batting to get the average up. And ofcourse, being the batsman I am, I'll be looking for a few streaky runs through the slips...

But if I were the batsmen, I'd look to bat T20 style. That is, clear my left leg, and swing straight. I'd also look to walk down the track, keep a high backlift, and try and call for a run for everything. Make sure he is running to the danger end as they'll be targetting my end to get me out. Look to score behind the keeper or straight down the ground. Just keep it simple, eye on the bowler, shuffle across if I wish to hit to leg, back away to hit to off, or even the simple walk down the track. Eye on the ball, and swing through the line on the last minute with full force. The ball isn't likely to swing much, but if it is, look to pick the swing and whack with it. Inswingers are fine as bottom hand shots go through the legside anyways, but outswingers are tricker, so I'll need to flash hard at them and hope to evade the slips and keeper if I get a nick. Best would be to wait for a short ball or a length ball and thwack it. Also, a lot of running between the wickets, a run every ball is the goal, and if I can I'll flick them to leg or dab them to third man. If a spinner is bowling, huge back lift, and wait for the ball. If he is bowling it flat, use the pace to go behind the wicket, or swing the bat as fast and hard as I can to hit it down the ground/through leg. If slow and flighted, wait till it is about to pitch, and swing. In those cases, I should be light on my feet, and charge down the second I spot it nice and high in the air. No point trying to keep the ball down now, all about the running. We'll also need to steal legbyes and take some risky runs to put the fielders under pressure. So some hard and fearless hitting with a few clever shots, some cheeky innovations and lots of hard running should do the trick. 3 wickets in hand, so we shouldn't fear. Just need to be calm and cool. Tell ourselves that no one is expecting us to win, so if we screw this up it doesn't matter. Oh, and I have to focus on staying there till the end, if only for my average more than anything else.

It’s pretty easy to see that throughout the entire “The Cricketer 2008” ZoraxDoom and myself have pretty much been Neck and neck. However, a quick check of results and a little research can reveal why I should be the winner of “The Cricketer 2008”.

Round One of describing how we could improve our batting and bowling.

1st - Danni Veza- 91%
2nd -ZoraxDoom-86%

5% difference is a big deal in a competition like this one. And it’s fairly safe to say I was quite easily the round one Winner

Round Two consisted of making a coaching resume for younger kids in youth trails

1st-Danni Veza- 92%
2nd -ZoraxDoom-88%

Again I had the better score by a large margin. It’s pretty safe to say who was ahead at this point.

Round Three was pitch conditions

1st- ZoraxDoom-91%
2nd-Danni Veza-90%

ZoraxDoom edging me out by one point here. Pitch isn’t exactly by strong point but he deserved the Win. We have yet to see the dominance that I showed in the early rounds however.

Round Four was a few questions needing to be answered, and help with batting (cut shot)

1st- ZoraxDoom- 91%
2nd- Danni Veza 89%

My only under 90% score came from this round and Zorax edged me out by two points. Zorax winning this round meant we both had two wins but an average score comparison can reveal the better of the two

Danni Veza average score was 90.5
ZoraxDoom Average score was 89.

A 1.5% difference may not seem like a lot but considering it’s the average score spread over the whole tournament it’s fairly obvious to see who the overall better performer is.

Now I won’t act like I’m a legend here as I’ll happily admit I’ve used some filler in my posts. But not as much as Zorax. Who has gone over the top with it.

Question Two- The highest ODI Total was posted by Sri Lanka when they where facing the Netherlands on the 4th on July 2006

The Total was 443 and Sri Lanka won by 195 runs

Question Three- Whenever you’re in a situation of needing 50 of 5 overs. The only shining light would be the fact that we still have a pure batsman in the team and not only tailenders. Although it’s generally not so good to take risks and slog the ball but once you need 10 an over it’s pretty much your only shot.

As the tailender it’s a necessity to give the strike to the batsmen whenever possible. And give an attempt to hit any bad balls (short/Wide) to the boundary. With 3 wickets in hand we can afford a wicket or two. But we can leave the big hitting to the batsmen.

As the batsmen, you’re in a difficult position here. You need to hit the ball to the boundary and not get out. With needing practically two Fours an over just to keep the run rate ticking over you need to keep going well. Where one over can change the game. An over with 2 sixes and a four could change the game completely in your favour, while any over that gets the batsmen out turns the game towards the opponent.

It’s a tough game and you’ll need to take some risks and have a little luck, because in that situation you’re always going to be down.

I certainly hope so. I've got a large amount of cash riding against myself. I've told those Martians to be here in 6 days and 22 hours exact, but you never know with those little green men. Bunch of sickos the whole lot, they have some sort of strange sock fetish. I've paid them bundles in pantyhose, but you know what they say, you can't trust a man with just one eyeball.
