Australia tour of India 2023 - 4 Tests , 3 ODIs

Joe Root got a double hundred, England won and then the wickets turned to crap during the England tour.

That pitch wasn’t a true batting surface IMO, it broke down quite terribly after day three. Although I must admit that it was kinda hilarious to see how much of a dustbowl the other pitches turned out to be after that.

I'm interested to see how England will approach the next tour but even more interested what pitches India will prepare.

When is the next tour though?

The Bazball England is a serious contender to be the only team to beat India in India again since 2012.

Next year, I think.

I do think they can pose more problems with the bat. Like I said the other day, they aren't going to bat for 160 overs on a flat pitch. Likewise, on a big turner I can't see them waiting to get out (like Australia did at times and England did last series). In both instances they will push for a result - as they did in Pakistan and New Zealand on flat pitches - and will not fear getting bowled cheaply in the search for an above par score in spin friendly conditions.

The big problem will be finding spinners to support Leach. I guess they've already identified Rehan as a possibility and then it would be Root with Jacks and Livingstone as other options that also lengthen the batting.

I fully anticipate a mix of dustbowls and slight turners. I don’t expect any sort of batting paradise unless we have a rogue curator again or a game is moved at the last second.

I tend to agree with your points in the other post. England’s batting at the moment does have more form behind them and I can see Duckett, Root and Brook in particular being pivotal if they can get going. The question mark will be the second spinner, I don’t think Rehan will be disciplined enough to get away if India still have a few spin bashers in their XI like Rohit, Pant and Shreyas to deal with him.

Yes you need quality spinners as well to get India out on such conditions too.

Remember in 2016 it was Ali and Rashid as the two spinners and England despite getting 400+ each time in all the tests batting in first innings England lost because their bowler couldn't get the Indian batsmen out.

In 2021 the first test England dominated the first test on a Typical Indian wicket in Chennai Thanks to Joe Root and a Jimmy Anderson reverse swing master class.

Leach did well last time but needed support at the other end.

Instead of Rehan who might be too raw for tests considering Rootlitharan is also a good choice.

Jadeja and Kuhnemann are apparently friends now and that's the kind of wholesome content I want across all sports

What an irony! India relying on King Lord Rahul (because one is not enough) to get them over the line.

It’s not the first time in ODIs either.

TBH he is a good ODI batsman to have at #5.

Just realized Shami bowled 30 dot balls in 6 overs (36 balls)! Must have been breathing fire. I will try and watch his spell.

Is Kishan carrying a niggle or something? It won't do his confidence a lot of good to see the part time keeper Rahul behind the wickets. One reason could be to keep him fresh and not burden him with keeping for 50 overs and then opening the batting but there have been players who have done it in the past - Gilchrist and Kaluwithrana comes instantly to the mind. This is not Test cricket and maybe India is better off having a specialist keeper rather than risking a part timer missing an important chance or two.

Could not have won this match without Hardik's and Jadeja's contribution. This is the KL we like and should be.

It doesnt matter to KLR whether he plays this innings or not, because his spot in the Indian team was NEVER in question (his namesake coach doing all the stuff behind the scenes?). But this was one heck of an innings since it came when India were truly staring at an embarassing defeat and were down the dumps at 39/4 chasing 188.

Good to see it and hope it continues...
