2025 ICC Champions Trophy - General Discussions

I really, really wanna see PCB just stand their ground for once. Even if they lose hosting rights, even if they get kicked out of the tourney. Just to see what happens, instead of the same thing every single time
I expect that at the end of the day the financial hit would be worse than embarassing themselves with this whole round and round 'will they won't they' when we all know India won't travel to Pakistan.

What can the BCCI do if the Government does not allow them to travel to Pakistan? They are not bigger than the Government of the country.

As expected, the bullies are being the bitches that they are again.

For a change, let's think of it from the Govt's POV. What can the BCCI do if they aren't grated permission? If the Govt percieves the threat to be high, they wouldn't allow the team to travel. Based off the article, the PCB chief has made a mention of how Pakistan travelled to India for the CWC23 but, in that case, they were well within their right to not to travel, right?

The only alternative here being that the ICC says- India can't participate, we will swap them out. However, the financial repercussions of such a move are far too huge for the ICC/PCB to even say this. I get that India might not reach the finals, crash out in the 1st round, but still the presence is enough to generate a considerable deal of excitement from the sponsors.

But nobody said anything about the BCCI? The hypocrisy comes from India's foreign policy, no?

Indian hockey team comes to play in Pakistan. They have no issues sending over other athletes, even their foreign minister came over for a short visit not even a full month ago, but cricket is where they draw the line. Not because cricketers are some godly figures who would be a greater target than the hockey team, but because cricket's really the only mainstream sport in India. If the BJP wants to build an anti-Pakistan narrative for their 'brand', it is imperative they implement an anti-Pakistan stance in the only mainstream sport in India, especially considering the fact that their commander-in-chief is the son of a senior-most BJP politician.

So we're sat here, forced to endure cricket's apartheid as a result.

While it’s frustrating and unfair, the truth is that cricketers are indeed treated like demigods in India. Comparing a foreign minister’s visit or sending over a hockey team is different—cricket, as the only truly mainstream sport in India, holds unparalleled influence. The political stakes and media frenzy around cricket make cricketers prime targets for any political or terrorist threats. The BJP’s stance, intentionally or not, benefits from enforcing this divide in cricket because it strengthens their narrative. So yes, it feels like a forced “cricket apartheid,” but from their perspective, it’s also a political calculation based on cricket’s status in India.

I too for once and for all would like PCB and Pakistan government take stance. NO CRICKET with Indian whatsoever. In India, Pakistan or elsewhere. Stop this nonsense once and for all.

The ICC/BCCI chairman is the son of India's Home Minister, so that argument doesn't really fly.

Did I not say the exact same thing but in a dumber, more simplistic way?

Also, it doesn't "feel like a forced cricket apartheid". It is a cricket apartheid.

May be I dint read it correctly! Apologies

A ministerial visit cannot be compared to a sporting event. However, I do sympathise on the part where the hockey and even chess teams tend to visit Pakistan, without any stoppages from the Indian govt. I firmly believe that if India doesn't intend to send the cricket team to Pakistan, they ought to put a full stop and ensure parity among all sports.

I wonder whether you'd say the same for your side as well. Historically the PCB chiefs are appointed by the current Pakistan PM. In that case, one wouldn't think they are operating independently, but rather taking the inputs from the govt.

Cricket is a different ball game in both India and Pakistan. BJP's anti-Pakistan stance will be weakened if they send Indian cricket team to Pakistan. They do not want that to happen.
Plus India have not gone there since 2008, I suppose. So, the ICC/ BCCI chairman is son of India's home minister does not matter.
