2025 ICC Champions Trophy - General Discussions

So for finals will numbers game catch up with India once again in the finals?

Like it has been doing for last 11 years now - 2014 WT20, 2017 CT, 2021, 2023 WTC and 2023 WC.

2024 WT20 they somehow managed to break the jinx though.

India's weaknesses:
1. Openers not firing and in erratic form: While played scored, he scored against Bangladesh post which he hasn't been able to do justice. Rohit believes he is there for the 10 overs and that's it.

2. Over reliance on the middle order and Iyer: The middle order has been getting the runs for us. Iyer has scored so far in almost all games and that too at a good rate.If NZL target the middle order strategically, like Australia did in Ahmedabad, it would be game over.

3. Kohli's slow approach: No one is really talking about it cause we have won the games. He is now accustomed to the climatic conditions and should be able to score faster. Taking the game deep by keeping wickets in hand is old-fashioned cricket and might back fire in the Finals.

4.Spinners: Please drop Kuldeep. Jadeja too has been a containing spinner.

If NZL targets the above, they will win. If batting first, they need a score in excess of 260 to win.Once they have that, the Indians might crumble against the spinners whilst chasing.

If chasing, they can milk the spinners during the middle overs to get closer to the target. Remember, they have Ravindra, Williamson & Young to graft the runs for them. Mitchell, Phillips, Bracewell and Santner can tonk the ball towards the end. All they require is some smart cricket.

New Zealand with their spinners have more than half decent shot at India.

They troubled them not too long ago in October back in India.

If there is one team that India didn't want to face again or in the finals it has to be New Zealand.

There's a large number of people who don't want India to win another World event. It is quite apparent from the talks around the world. As someone pointed out in this thread, the Indian team has played well. We have had scenarios in the past where some teams have played entirely in UAE (Pakistan, during their forced absence from home) but they haven't been able to dominate the Dubai scene.

The cricket world and the BCCI might be impacted if the Indian team doesn't make the knockouts in a World Event. Cause as long as they are playing, the money is in the game.

Coming from a country like Pakistan is quite expected.

All their youtubers who are churning views by praising India and Sucking Kohli will dance like no tommorow if New Zealand wins on sunday its been know pattern from them and has been since 2016 because of the digital era taking place in India because of JIO.

Saving the world - I mean common is way too exaggerated, yes India can lose but is it going to make any impact of BCCI's financial situation or affect BCCI in any sense since the whole talk these days is about BCCI vs the world.

I mean as fan of Indian team myself I am more prepared to see India lose given their history in the knockouts since 2014.

IMO it has nothing to do with people of India or Pakistan. BCCI and PCB are shit, BCCI must not be allowed to play in a netural venue and the same is done to Pakistan for T20 wc 2026 in India. PCB should have stayed firm in hosting the CT in only their nation and not agreeing the deal for playing in a netural venue offer for T20 wc in 2026. For me India is the better team in CT with Australia missing their fab 3 and India is deserving winners, if they beat kiwis 2 times in Dubai.

This vendetta you have about this is just so silly too me. The way Kohli played that chase against Australia was perfect, the only thing he did wrong was not finishing 120*. But he set the game up beautifully, you've got Rahul, Pandya and Jadeja at 6,7,8. All games in Dubai have been relatively slow pitches, leading to lower scores than seen in Pakistan, so Kohli just nudging it around is the perfect way to play on that pitch, and that's because of what you have down the order. Especially if Sharma gets off the leash in the powerplay in the final. Kohli's tournament has been a masterclass in those conditions, and it's just odd to see it any differently.

Afghanistan have the exact same template. They want to be 3/180ish going into the final 10 and than go beserk, exactly what they did vs England, and to a lesser extent Australia. And that worked on the better pitches for batting, with worse batters, so it's even better on slow pitches like in Dubai with India's batsmen. Just my 2 cents anyway.

Kholi will be man of the tournament if India win final on Sunday, it will be good to go into ipl tournament with a major international trophy won.

Never been a fan of the Kiwis, simply cuz they always seem like pretty nice guys. That being said I hope they teach India a lesson in humility tomorrow and win the trophy.

Best of luck Kiwis, the rest of the world are supporting yall to triumph!

No vendetta, I assure you. I have no concerns in him starting a bit slow. My concern is with him not attempting up the scoring rate until the fag end. If you are settled and know there's a decent batting lineup to follow, you need to push up the rate.

Nudge around from 1-38/40 overs by all means. Get a hand of the wicket. But thereafter, you are set and you need to up the rate. By leaving it too late, you are pressurizing the ones to follow. Kohli got out without finishing the match vs Aus. That would have put immense pressure on Pandya, that too in a semi final.

Also note that Kohli has the game to bring up the scoring rate. However,he hasn't done so in the recent past. The CWC23 ,the WT20 Final 24 and the CT25- examples of Kohli batting slowly, despite being accustomed to the conditions.

Agree. But Afghanistan went beserk. Even after settling down, Kohli isn't doing so. The India of old saw Rohit Sharma taking his time until 35/40 overs and then going hammer and tongs. But with Virat, you aren't seeing that last part, unless and until we reach over 48/49. It isn't what the team needs. Yes, he is.scoring and aiding the team, but let's look at the other side where he is holding up the scoring rate for far too long.

Undoubtedly the best batsman, best cricketer and best sportsman India produced.

It’ll be a sad day when he retires from cricket (I don't consider T20 to be cricket).

Neck and neck with Viv as the best ODI batsman ever.

I’d say he’s the only Indian batsman that can be considered in the top 10 Test batsmen of all time.

Best Indian captain, 2nd only to MS Dhoni.

Personally one of my favourite players of all time. Just he represents the wrong team, :)
