Story (05)A coach,2005 and beyond

First Day:

We lost the toss and yet again Fleming chose to field.
A slow start to the innings as Papps and Fleming were staying at the crease.
The batsman however didn't look comfortable at all.
A simple list of chances:3 dropped catches,5 failed lbw appeals and 2 played and missed.
Steyn and Pollock were the hardest to get away as Terbrugge and Ntini didn't bowl as economicly.
Klusener was brought into the attack and he responded by getting Papps on the front foot,he got and edge through to the keeper and...

He fumble it!And then caught it on the second try!
We'd dismissed Papps to put a number in the wickets column.1-69

Micheal Papps, caught Boucher bowled Klusener for 25 from 87 deliveries with 2 fours.

McMillian the magician came in and almost was dismissed!
Pollock dropped him on 3 and he quickly accelerated from there.
With the bowling options runnings out I turned to my spinner,Nicky Boje.
He started in the best possible way, fighting one up,drawing Flemind forward and letting the ball rip and rearrange the timber!2-95.

Stephen Fleming, bowled Boje for 40 from 93 deliveries with 3 fours.

Boje was looking rampant and McMillian and the new batsman,Oram, almost got out on several occasions.
But the eventual break came from the other end with Klusener coming back on and removing another batsman on the start of his second spell.
Hmmmmm,Maybe I should bowl him in 1 over spells!:D:p.3-134.

Craig McMillian, bowled Klusener for 38 from 56 deliveries with 5 fours.

After that Boje seemed to lose his sting and Oram attack with more ferocity then ever in this test series.
He didn't give one chance until Pollock bowled him while he was trying to slog another one.4-214.

Jacob Oram, bowled Pollock for 77 from 79 delvieries with 12 fours.

An over later we had the tea break and after that Astle and Sinclair had a job to do to survive till the end of day.
Pollock didn't like that idea,literally!
Two consecutive bouncers put Astle in a bit of a fright and when the next one was on a good length he poked at it.
When it seamed back at him he didn't have an answer.5-220.

Nathan Astle, lbw Pollock for 4 from 6 deliveries with 1 four.

With Vincent and Sinclair nailing down the hatches,Duminy was asked to bowl a few off breaks.
Vincent decided to attack and after being unable to make contact for 2 balls,he took a mighty heave and hit the ball!

Straight into the hands off Gibbs!6-243.

Lou Vincent, caught Gibbs bowled Duminy for 16 from 24 deliveries with 2 fours.

McCullum was in a good mood and he quickly put NZ in a good position at stumps

End of Day 1:NZ 329/6
Sinclair 75
McCullum 38
Pollock 2/48
Klusener 2/48

Another bad bowling performance!

Sinclair and McCullum have given NZ a brilliant lead here with an unbeaten partnership of 86 runs. The top order for New Zealand however were brilliant and put NZ in great stead for a brilliant score. They finally got the momentum back and ended the day well. Hopefully your bowlers can bowl better on the second day. Bowl to the batsmen's weakness' remember. ;)

Good stuff here, mate.

Second Day:

Sinclair and McCullum were the overnight batsman and Terbrugge was given the ball to start off with.
His first ball was an outswinger on a length and Sinclair just couldn't resist having a waft at it and literally handed us his wicket on the first ball of the day!!!7/329.

Matthew Sinclair, caught Pollock bowled Terbrugge for 75 from 171 delvieries with 8 fours and 1 six.

McCullum wasn't too happy with being left with Franklin so early and decided he didn't like Terbrugge and was going to attack him.
He just wasn't going to last long like that!8/336.

Brendan McCullum, caught Boucher bowled Terbrugge for 44 from 83 deliveries with 6 fours.

Now we had Franklin and Gillespie at the crease, neither experienced batsman.
Pollock and Terbrugge we're now getting a hold on the innings.
Guess what happened next?
Terbrugge you beauty!
Franklin bowled straight through him!9/337!

James Franklin, bowled Terbrugge for 1 from 26 deliveries.

Bond and Gillespie were to add a very useful parternership!
However neither were batsman and so the parternership was always going to be broken well before the lunch break.374.

Shane Bond, caught McKenzie bowled Boje for 16 from 35 deliveries.
Mark Gillespie, not out for 16 from 55 deliveries with 2 fours.

McKenzie and Gibbs were the openers and they both took the attack to the bowlers with McKenzie leading the way and they quickly had the 50 opening parternership up.
Gibbs's best shot a enourmous hit over the onside for 6!!!
Even this couldn't last and Gibbs had a swing one too many times!1/76.

Herschelle Gibbs, lbw Franklin for 30 from 52 deliveries with 3 fours and 1 six.

McKenzie wasn't daunted and accumulated runs quickly.
Kallis, however, seems to have gotten himself stuck in a hole, again!
McKenzie wasn't worried and brought up his half century with a straight driven four.

Neil McKenzie,53* from 70 deliveries.

Kallis wasn't so much in a hole after that but he had a less then 50 strike rate.
McKenzie, however, kept on going at a very solid pace and they quickly passed the 50 parternership, the tea break and McKenzies hundred!

Neil McKenzie,101* from 141 delvieries.

The best innings for our batsman is one that they prosper.
Next in line was the hundred parternership and then the 150 parternership.
Both came up with gusto.
Kallis was the author of the next milestone,it being of his 50.

Jaques Kallis,50* from 114 deliveries.

McKenzie isn't wasting this golden chance and he ticked off another milestone!

Neil McKenzie,153* from 193 deliveries.

They safely reached the end of play from there.
An easy days play in which I've easily had the upper hand!

End of day two:SA,1/270
McKenzie 166*
Kallis 71*
Franklin 1/70
McMillian 0/22

Awesome batting, simply awesome. The entire day was good for you and Terbrugge was brilliant to get three wickets in a row, all of which you needed. McKenzie is batting superbly well and Kallis is adding runs to the total, whilst playing well himself.

South Africa definitely in control, you should go on to post a big score now.

Third Day:

Kallis and McKenzie didn't miss a beat coming out on the third day and they quickly established a 200 parternership.
After a powerful hoick for four from Kallis they broke the record for the South African 2nd wicket stand.
Kallis continued as always and reached a slow but steady hundred.

Jaques Kallis,102* from 211 deliveries.

McKenzie wasn't going to give up either with a double hundred in reach they brought McMillian on.
The first delivery was a beautiful length ball and McKenzie proded at it,getting the outside edge.
It went slightly wide of Papps at batpad and he....................put it down!!!!!
What a let go!
McKenzie didn't waste his chance.

Neil McKenzie,200* from 277 deliveries.

The next reaction from Kallis was to take the attack back to the bowling and soon afterwards one over went for 16!
It was a wonderful parternership.
A little bit shy of 150 Kallis tried a quick single, but Papps at short leg grabbed and throwed the stumps down, with a great result.2/403.

Jaques Kallis,run out(Papps) for 142 from 241 deliveries with 16 fours.

Soon after lunch arrived,Boje and McKenzie deserved a bit of a break.
After lunch they resumed as if they had never had a break, until Oram swung one away from McKenzie and got the prize wicket.3/430.

Neil McKenzie, caught McCullum bowled Oram for 246 from 308 deliveries with 33 fours.

A beautiful cover drive from Boje lit up the pitch, followed by a biff over the bowlers head.
Boje certainly wasn't going to be patient.
Duminy down the other end seemed to think the opposite,he was taking the least amount of risks possible.
Boje however tried one biff too many and found himself out!4/453.

Nicky Boje, caught Fleming bowled Franklin for 27 from 37 deliveries with 4 fours.

Not again!!!
Franklin on a rampage to take Duminy.

Jean-Paul Duminy,lbw Franklin for 4 from 19 deliveries.

The pitch however was a batting strip it seemed at this point and it proceeded to allow Klusener and Boucher to get stuck in.
On his return match,Boucher didn't wait and quickly cashed in on another six.
Some beautiful shots flew arround as yet again NZ seemed to have no answer.
Franklin couldn't stop it this time.
But Gillespie did!!6/517.

Mark Boucher, caught Fleming bowled Gillespie for 33 from 56 deliveries with 3 fours and 1 six.

Klusener wasn't going to be stopped and he quickly reached the fifty.

Lance Klusener,50* from 83 deliveries.

A beautiful cameo was unfolding with Pollock and Klusener.
I was going to enjoy this.
Or so I thought until Franklin came back on.
Pollock joined his victem list.
He was trying to flick it down leg only to find leg slip and present it with a catch!7/551.

Shaun Pollock, caught Sinclair bowled Franklin for 11 from 17 deliveries with 2 fours.

Then next you know,Bond picks up his first wicket on his return match!
Coming round the wicket to Klusener and striking him plumb in front.8/553.

Lance Klusener, lbw Bond for 53 from 90 deliveries with 7 fours.

Steyn didn't last long.9/560.

Dale Steyn, caught Vincent bowled Bond for 5 from 11 deliveries.

Ntini and Terbrugge tried to hit out and found themselves without much to show for it.

Makhaya Ntini, bowled Gillespie for 1 from 2 deliveries.
David Terbrugge, not out for 7 from 8 deliveries with 1 four.

Papps and Fleming yet again, and rarely have they managed a good parternership.
This wasn't one of those times.
They started well enough navigating Pollock and Terbrugge with ease.
It was the Steyn,Ntini combo which had them prodding and poking all over the place.1/38.

Micheal Papps, bowled Steyn for 23 from 66 deliveries with 2 fours.

However,NZ managed to take themselves through to stumps.
A very satisfying day!

End of day 3:NZ 1/65.
Fleming 23*
McMillian 17*
Steyn 1/23
Ntini 0/6

565 is a very good total but perhaps you could of made around 600 thanks to being 403/1 at one stage. McKenzie was awesome but was lucky to be dropped. Never mind, it is still a fantastic score compared to their current one. Just need to bowl well and make them follow on.

Great presentation, mate.

Follow on?

They've already batted

Fourth Day:

The day started shakily when McMillian played and missed twice.
A few balls later he was back to majestic with a crackling cover drive.
Steyn was still giving him trouble though.
It wasn't until Klusener came on that there was some excitement with a lbw appeal against McMillian!
..
..
Not out said the umpire.
Next ball however he got out to a magnificent diving catch by first slip!2/113.

Craig McMillian, caught Boje bowled Klusener for 40 from 66 deliveries with 4 fours.

Fleming and Oram now.
They both found the bowling not too hard to navigate, although there were a few really close encounters and a few scintilating shots.

Stephen Fleming,50* from 93 deliveries.

The track was starting to spin now and Boje was brought into the attack.
He soon had Fleming tangled up all over the place.
It wasn't hard to see the wicket coming.3/154.

Stephen Fleming, caught and bowled Boje for 62 from 116 delvieries with 5 fours.

Oram and Sinclair weren't going to be bowed although I'm wondering about the umpires when they turned down a plumb lbw appeal from Boje!
Oram soldiered on and had a 50.

Jacob Oram,50* from 116 deliveries.

Soon after Boje picked up an all importent wicket.4/210.

Jacob Oram, caught Pollock bowled Boje for 51 from 122 deliveries with 5 fours.

With just a small lead Sinclair and Astle needed to push onwards.
Astle survived until the new ball easily enough but the new ball had him going in circles!
However he managed to survive.
Better then I can say of Sinclair!!!5/253.

Matthew Sinclair, bowled Terbrugge for 40 from 97 deliveries with 3 fours.

NZ now have a lead of 62 with only 5 wickets remaining.
..
..
Make that 4.
Terbrugge comes in to bowl to Vincent for the first time and bowls him with a cutter!6/253.

Lou Vincent, bowled Terbrugge for 0 from 1 delivery.

McCullum to face the hattrick ball.
It was a straight fast yorker and he just digs it out.
Steyn bowled the next over and another wicket falls as NZ forgot how to bat!7/254.

Brendan McCullum, bowled Steyn for 0 from 6 deliveries.

Steyn finishes the over without letting them add another run.
Terbrugge then adds to NZ's misery.8/254.

Nathan Astle, lbw Terbrugge for 29 from 41 deliveries with 4 fours.

Gillespie and Franklin had a task infront of them and they managed to take it through to tea.
But Terbrugge had something good for tea and struck afterwards.9/271.

Mark Gillespie, bowled Terbrugge for 7 from 28 deliveries.

Well,well.
I'm going well.
I thought I could get Bond for a duck here.
It wasn't to be,yet again.
All out but there were precious runs added there.

James Franklin, caught Kallis bowled Terbrugge for 14 from 37 deliveries with 2 fours.
Shane Bond, not out for 8 from 13 deliveries with 1 four.

Scorecard:

Bowling card:

Gibbs came out with a flashing blade and McKenzie with rocks in his boots!:p
McKenzie couldn't put up the heroics of the first innings and soon was trudging back to the pavilion.1/52.

Neil McKenzie, caught McCullum bowled Oram for 21 from 51 deliveries with 2 fours.

One more over to survive and survive they did.
No late night collapses today.

End of day four:SA 1/52
Gibbs 30*
Kallis 0*
Oram 1/2
Franklin 0/5

42 runs to win I think, and with 9 wickets in hand that should be esy. Gibbs is going strong and McKenzie was decent with the bat, but you don't really need any quality innings really. Terbrugge was awesome with the ball and managed to get a 5fer! Boje played his part, getting out the two batsmen that got past 50 runs, but most of the bowlers were good enough.

A simple total to chase, victory is inevitable. Good presentation, mate.

Fifth Day:

Starting the day with just 42 needed for victory,Kallis struck a brilliant straight drive for four.
And then followed up with a completely ugly shot!
The result was a forgone conclusion.2/56.

Jaques Kallis, bowled Gillespie for 4 from 4 deliveries with 1 four.

Gibbs slashed and swiped for runs but down the other end Boje almost put me three down three times!
With Bond grassing two of those chances.
However, with the required runs at 22 Gibbs slashed and missed.
The ball cannoned into his pads.
The fielders went up together,it was a plumb lbw!!!
..
..
..
Then they say the umpire with one arm stretched out vertically.
..
It was a no-ball!!!
Gibbs continued with gusto, unperterbed by the close encounter.
Boje down the other end seemed shaken, and got out.3/77.

Nicky Boje, caught McCullum bowled Gillespie for 6 from 10 deliveries.

Duminy and Gibbs easily pushed and sliced all around.
There was never any doubt I was going to win that!(I wish!:p)
An easy wrap up of the series 2-0.

Easy series win with a decent enough chase from your batsmen. Hopefully you can take this form into the last Test/ODI series.

There isn't any tests Left!

bladescape added 13 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...

ODI SQUAD vs NZ:
Gibbs:In good form and is my premiere opener.
G.Smith:Just returned from injury and is the captain.
McKenzie:My back up batsman, has some talent.
Kallis:Give me a reason to leave him out!
Boje:was useful so far at breaking an importent parternership and can be useful with his batting.
Duminy:My talented youngster which will keep a permenent spot for now.
Klusener:One of the best bowlers in the tests and can put a useful contribution with the bat.
Boucher proved why he immediattely took over from De Villiers in the last test,a lot less byes and leg byes let through.
S.Pollock:My star bowler in the tests.
Steyn:Has proved to be useful,I just hope he can continue.
Terbrugge:Deadly when on song.
Ntini:A main bowler in the tests.
Prince:Another recovery from injury and immediatte slot in the squad.
Hall:A useful ODI player,I'm hesitent to use him in tests though.
Kemp:Looks like he can play,a wild card selection, maybe.
De Villiers:My back up keeper,or batsman.
Botha:I decided to have a proper full time spinner, and this guy was the best in my books.
Nel:A definate first pick back from injury, the third one now.

Good team with Nel, Smith and Prince all coming back from injury, strengthening your team even more. I think you will win the ODIs rather easily.

Good presentation mate.
