^ Household name? You must be joking right?

I saw an article on Tendulkar walking in the streets in England (or something), and nobody recognized him. (which he was pleased about)

I am sure if it was an English cricketer in his place, they would easily have recognized him.

Also about children idolizing Sachin is misleading. Yes (the people that know him) like his abilities, but there are other cricketers that they like as well.

I can say that Tendulkar is easily recognised here in Brisbane oZ. I remember during the 03/04 india tour. At the allan border field Tendulkar randomly late in the day went for a net session with john gloster. He had to walk through the crowd to get there, in matter of minutes the crowd following went from 5 people to about 50-60. And for his 20min net session there about 200ppl watching. When the likes of Matty Hayden was batting 2 nets across him.

But seriously do you think people would instantly recognise other sports stars like Kaka, kobe bryant etc walking throught public street. They wouldnt hound him like in india but they would know who he was at least.

:doh

He has been playing for 20 years and holds uncountable records. If you are a cricket follower in the slightest you know who Sachin Tendulkar is and what he has accomplished.

A cricket follower definitely knows who he is.

But ballers comparison is ridiculous. because somehow he us saying Sachin is more "popular" than Bradman, which doesn't actually make any sense.

More people have seen him play. He has a billion eyes on him every time he walks out on the field, I guess it is fair to say he has more of a fan following.

Another ridiculous statement. India obviously has the highest population of any cricketing nation, and world population is much bigger today that it was in the 40s.

Fan following CANNOT be included when judging cricketers. It is just stupid.

I read somewhere where Bradman is statistically the best sportsman of all time in any sport. Bradman's name has more weight behind it than Sachin has now and he stopped playing in 1948 and it was his opinion of Sachin in the first place that put Sachin on another pedestal.

There could be no one in the world that watches or plays cricket that could take themselves seriously if they didn't know who Bradman was.

No one said Sachin was actually better than Bradman. It's just he is probably the closest thing we have (or very, very close to it). Bradman himself said this.

Not Sachin's fault that he plays for a country with 1B+ people, and of course there are the people from all over the world. With that comes very high pressure/fan following. We are not judging him as a cricketer based on this (although one could argue that performances under such pressure are simply incredible) but he has had and in the future will continue to have a greater impact on more upcoming cricketers than Bradman did.

I can see where he is coming from. I think it can be called that Sachin has had the greatest impact on the game, maybe not the greatest player. He'd be in my top 5 for sure though.

He has the capacity too but I highly doubt he will. Bradman said he played with a similar technique to himself and that he highlighted, he didn't say they were similar in terms of greatness.

Sachin may have more impact in India in the future perhaps but I don't see how any other nation will have him in higher regard or have an impact on cricketers any more than Bradman has and will in the future.

Sachin is a great of the game but not even in the same category as Bradman no matter how you put it.
